To Whom It May Concern,
I have known Bruce Smith since the summer of20l3, when he was hired as SL]NY
Canton Admissions Dircctor. Admissions used to report to me, so I know that the
situation facing him was untenable. Recognizing that, Bruce asked for an altemative
work assignment to complete the rcst ofhis contract. He moved to the Canton College
Foundation in April, 2014 as Special Assistant to the Vice President, reporting to me.
Bruce worked very hard to accomplish his duties. For example, he met or exceeded most
ofhis annual goals injust seven months. This shows his ability to plan, organize, and
prioritize.
He seemed to understand the big pictwe and was diligent at calling prospects and follow-
up. For example, Bruce's job was fundraising, and a key success measure for Bruce was
to identify and cultivate enough prcspects to secure 120 visits/year. He did not inherit a
group ofprospects, so had to find most ofthem himself. Using his creativity and ability
for enhancing processes, he quickly devised a successful strategy to identify high
potential donors woth cultivating.
In conclusion, I recommend Bruce for positions that he feels qualified for. Please feel
free to call me with any questions. I wish Bruce all the best as he pursues a new career
opportunity.
