It is my pleasure to write a letter of recommendation for Bruce Smith. I have known Mr.
Smith since he started working at Dakota State University (DSU). We have worked
closely on various initiatives aimed at marketing DSU’s graduate programs and
increasing the visibility of our programs. During this period I experienced first-hand the
exemplary qualities of Mr. Smith making him a great asset for your organization.
Mr. Smith’s creativity, innovation, and content knowledge and experience in marketing
and communication proved invaluable in conceiving and implementing marketing and
recruitment initiatives. Most notable are developing a comprehensive marketing plan for
our graduate programs, reinventing our graduate program contact management system,
developing engaging graduate program brochures, researching messages and promotional
opportunities, enhancing the graduate programs web site, and developing a variety of
creative e-communications to engage prospective graduate students. Examples of these e-
communications include an online database of students’ testimonials, faculty blogs, and
faculty podcasts. Mr. Smith was also instrumental in organizing and coordinating the
Sioux Falls Technology Summit in November 2006; an event that enhanced DSU’s
image and visibility in the state as a technology leader.
Many of the aforementioned accomplishments (as well as others) would not be possible
without Mr. Smith’s leadership, energy, enthusiasm, and interpersonal skills. Mr. Smith
was able to successfully work with a multitude of stakeholders, build and lead effective
teams, and complete these projects on time and on budget.
In conclusion, I find Mr. Bruce Smith an enthusiastic, energetic, hard working, and
dedicated individual. I have very much enjoyed working with him and I wish him all the
