Several employees from the company enjoyed a day of fishing and teambuilding in Louisiana where they caught fish and admired the local wildlife. Another group of employees completed a 22-mile hike from rim-to-rim in the Grand Canyon over 16-24 hours, which required months of preparation. The company newsletter provides updates on employee activities, health initiatives to encourage exercise, and the groundbreaking of a new restaurant project.

1. Employee News
Several employees were fortunate to be able to get away from the daily stress of con-
struction and enjoy a day of Red fishing and teambuilding in Louisiana. Everyone had
a blast and ate some fine Louisiana cuisine!

In May of this year a group of employees woke up at 4am in the morning to begin a 22
mile hike on the Kaibab trail of the grand canyon from rim-to-rim. An adventure that
would take anywhere between 16 to 24 hours of consistent walking and climbing. Eve-
ryone's accomplishment did not take place over night. Months of preparation and plan-
ning took place for them to be able to physically and mentally prepare themselves for
this journey. By working together and encouraging one another they were all able to
accomplished their goal.

Employee Health Fair
Have you ever had to go to the Dr. for a check up? Does it feel like it’s a waste
of time? Do you ever tell yourself “I know I’m healthy, I don't need a Dr. to tell
me that.” Well, starting in January of 2015 employees of Century Construction
will be able to go receive a “check up” either by your own physician or by Tu-
pelo Medical Group (which is free of charge with your insurance) and compete
with other employees to see who is the healthiest employee! Anytime during
the months of Jan/Feb bring the results that show weight, height, blood sugar,
blood pressure and total cholesterol. Then have it checked again from Novem-
ber until, the Christmas party then we will compare results, and the top 3 big-
gest improvements will win! By turning in your results you can win up to 500
dollars! By comparing your results of your Jan/Feb physical and when you go
in to your physical in Nov/Dec the people with the most improvement will win.
It’s a Win-Win! For more information contact Benton or Brittany at 662-844-

2. Message from the President
In May of this year I, along with a group of fellow employees hiked the Grand
Canyon from rim to rim. This trek was 21 miles with over 2 miles of vertical
elevation change. It took months of preparation and training to condition our
bodies both physically and mentally for this task. Along the trail we passed
several hikers who were not prepared for the long journey across the rocky,
hot and challenging trail. These hikers were truly suffering and I can only
image that they were regretting ever starting. In the Health and Benefits sec-
tion of this new letter its says a 15 min walk will add 3 years to your life ex-
pectancy, so completing this trek should add 168 years to my life? Maybe
not, but being in good shape for the task at hand will definitely make life
easier, allow me to finish at the front of the pack, and feel more rewarded
when finished. It’s the same in our careers, being in good physical and men-
tal condition will allow you to perform at your best, reduce downtime due to
sickness and make you a valuable team member. To continue to grow and
maintain our position as a leader in the construction industry, we need all
team members to be in there best shape for a long and prosperous career
with Century Construction.

Safety
At Century, we want Safety to be at the forefront of everything we do. There are
times when we all have been guilty of complacency, taking shortcuts, or simply
disregarding the Safety guidelines. Some of the main excuses for these are: “It’ll
only take a second and nothing will happen” or “I’ve always done it this way and
nothing has ever happened.”
Well, I can’t re-grow a new eye or survive a 30’ fall and I’m pretty sure you can’t
either! We must always remember that it only takes a millisecond for an accident
to occur. Every OSHA standard and Century guideline is in place because some-
one, somewhere was injured. We always want everyone to go home safely to their
families; we owe it to you and YOU OWE IT TO YOUR FAMILY! Our rules and
guidelines are not in place to burden you, but to keep you injury free.
Remember, pay attention to your surroundings, follow the safety rules, watch out
for your fellow worker, and BE SAFE!
