- HS.O.FP.3.2 relate the role of good nutrition to the health and
wellness of individuals and families.
- HS.O.FP.3.1 apply basic principles of nutrition to promote
healthy food choices.
Enabling
Objectives
- The students will list the six nutrients, as asked on the Nutrition
Test.
- The students will be able explain three causes of malnutrition, by
answering the test item in short answer form.
- The students will list six food sources and the nutrients which
they would provide to our bodies as they complete the test item
on their Nutrition Test.
Teacher/Learner
Activities
- The teacher will take roll.
- The teacher will instruct students that they have 10 minutes of
quiet review and study time in order to look at their notes and
refresh their memories.
- The teacher will administer the Nutrition Test.
- Collect tests.
- Teacher will briefly introduce Choose My Plate.
- Students will color their plate and then label the categories.
Partnering up with other students, they will list at least ten foods
that fit in each category. Then have them come back to the whole
group and discuss the foods they listed.
- The teacher will go over the expectations for the Create MyPlate
Collage Project and go over rubric.
Materials and
Equipment
- Nutrition Test
- MyPlate printout
- Create MyPlate Collage Rurbric
Class Timeline - 5 min: Roll, explain schedule for the day
- 10 min: Students will study for ten minutes
- 40 min: Teacher will administer Nutrition Test
- 10 min: Introduce Choose My Plate
- 15 min: Color and lable MyPlate printout. In pairs list foods.
- 10 min: Go over expectations for Create MyPlate Collage project
and rubric.
Modifications - Students with learning disabilities will have test read out loud.
- If class time is shorter than 90 minutes Coloring will be omitted.
Evaluation - Nutrition Unit Test will be administered/graded.
- MyPlate Handout will be on Daily Work Chart
- Create MyPlate Collage Project will be graded with a rubic.
