2. There is nothing more
important to a parent then
their children.
Finding the right caregiver is a
quest that at times seems
insurmountable.
3. Who do you really want to let teach and raise your children when
you simply cannot be there?
The answer is someone you can welcome into your home as a family
friend, and someone that you know will treat your children as if they
are their own while still maintaining your rules and teachings.
4. Step 1 Donāt trust the internet!
There are great people out there, but use a service like BrightStar to
help as not only do we do a lot of the work for you, we also have a very
detailed screening process that includes: a criminal background check,
drug screening, and current CPR certification.

5. Step 2 Do an interview, some of the most basic questions you
should ask can be found here on our Resources page.
ā¢ However, make sure you customize it to your family and particularly
to your children.
6. Step 3 Let your kids do an interview!
ā¢ They can and should be the ultimate decision factor- and this step can
tell you a lot about their developing relationship by how they react to
each other, and how they will get along in the future.
ā¢ If your children shy away, or keep distant then this is not the person
for your child.
ā¢ The child should feel as comfortable with them as they are with a
close family friend.
7. Step 4 Once you have found someone both you and your Kids
like, then ask for references and make sure to contact at least two
of them.
ā¢ Even if you donāt have time to contact every one, it will allow you
some glimpse into their background and history with children.
8. Step 5 Plan a day in which you and the sitter can spend a few
hours together with the children.
ā¢ This is ideal because the sitter needs to know a bit about your familiesā
habits and how you deal with issues as they arise.
ā¢ Plus you can see how they interact even if you are just in the house
while the spend time with the children.
