6. Statutory Payments & Student Loans
• Statutory Sick Pay – new rate of £89.35 (previously £88.45)
• SMP/ SPP/ SAP/ ShPP – new rate of £140.98 (previously £139.58)
• Student Loan Deductions:
– Plan 1 threshold increased to £17,775 per annum (£17,495 in 16/17)
– Plan 2 threshold remains at £21,000
– Percentage deduction remains at 9%

9. Apprenticeship Levy
• Payable by employers with an annual pay bill in excess of £3,000,000.
• Payable from 6th April 2017
• 0.5% of annual pay bill
• Apprenticeship levy allowance - £15,000 per annum
• Paid in the same manner as PAYE & NICs
• Reported via the Employer Payment Summary
13. Piece of Work Rates
• If you pay (or part pay) your employees by a unit other than salary,
the hour or the day, BrightPay now caters for this
• This new feature is available within the ‘Employer’ utility:
16. Minimum Wage Reporting
• National Minimum/Living Wage (including apprentices), UK Living Wage &
London Living Wage catered for in BrightPay
• Using the employee's age (on pay date), number of hours worked in period,
and minimum wage profile, BrightPay will determine the effective hourly rate
used and compare it against the required minimum hourly rate
• The user will be notified if an employee's wage appears to be below the
minimum
18. Finalising Payslips
• Improvements have been made to how pay dates are entered when finalising payslips
• When re-opening and re-finalising payslips, the previously used pay date is
remembered
20. Annual Leave Adjustment
• BrightPay 2017/18 now allows you to adjust the 5.6 weeks statutory holiday
week’s entitlement figure for the annual leave calculation types
22. Expenses & Benefits
• Company car information can now be reported on the Full
Payment Submission, if the car is being payrolled
