1. THE
CERTIFIER®
Spring 2016
Ask the operators of the NSA Bahrain
reverse osmosis water treatment plant
about the importance of certification,
and you’ll get an enthusiastic universal
response: certification opens doors in
their careers they didn’t realize were
possible.
For Amit Kumar Ram, Mohsin Ali Khan,
Muhammad Naveed Islam, and Rakesh
Prajapati, their training and certification
achievements have already started
making a noticeable impact. All four
operators passed their ABC Class 1
Water Treatment exams with flying
colors, and are continuing to advance.
“The training and certification program
motivated me to learn more about my
career field so now I feel comfortable
with the knowledge that I can easily
handle any issues while on the job,”
Rakesh said, “It has helped me to feel
secure and gives me the opportunity to
advance to a higher position and better
pay.” Rakesh began his career as a
water treatment plant operator in 2000
in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand, India, and
has been with NSA Bahrain for three
years. “I enjoy doing something different
every day,” he said.
The variety in their responsibilities is a
common theme. Amit and Naveed both
enjoy the challenges that come with the
day-to-day plant operation, including
troubleshooting and maintenance.
Naveed has a background in chemical
engineering, and began his career at a
reverse osmosis plant for industrial use
in Pakistan. Amit joined NSA Bahrain in
April 2013 and takes pride in producing
safe drinking water and maintaining
a spotless plant. Both operators are
looking forward to promising futures.
“When I joined NSA Bahrain, my
supervisor gave me training and
assistance with certification,” Naveed
said. “Finally I got my ABC certification,
and now I have many avenues for my
bright future all over the world.”
Preparing for and passing an ABC exam
is no easy feat under ideal
circumstances, but take into account
that English is not the NSA Bahrain
operators’ primary language, and
suddenly a whole new level of
difficulty and preparation emerges. “I
was extremely proud to get my ABC
certification, and I hope that it will
help me in the future,” said Mohsin,
who joined NSA Bahrain in 2013 after
working as a utility plant operator in
Pakistan.
Brian Flieger, Assistant Regional Water
Manager for Centerra Group, LLC, has
worked closely with the NSA Bahrain
operators for three years. “When they
first started this, they didn’t understand
that certification could open a lot of
paths for them,” Brian said. “I’m amazed
at what they can accomplish and have
accomplished.” Brian holds an ABC
Class IV Water Treatment certification,
as well as a Class III Water Distribution
certification. He has made it his mission
to better the lives of his operators and
the quality of work they provide for
the U.S. military, by providing ongoing
training and opportunities. “My hard
work and their hard work paid off,” Brian
said, “It was a team effort.”
