1. To whom it concern
Brendan Jordan was a student in Carrick-on-Shannon Community School from 2006 to 2012.
Brendan opted to do Transition Year in 2009. As Brendan’s Media Studies teacher during that year, I
was impressed with his application, enthusiasm, work ethic, and willingness to learn new skills.
During Transition Year, Carrick-on-Shannon Community School through the media radio module set
up both an internet and community based radio station. Brendan presented, produced, and
researched many shows during the year and it was evident that he reflected on his experiences
during that time given his improvement in all areas throughout this duration. Brendan learned how to
edit recorded files by using adobe audition. He mastered the operation of the mixing desk very quickly
and during the course of the year he learned how to set up a very basic outside broadcast. This allied
to his clear presentation style, attention to detail in preparing programmes and his willingness to work
as part of a team made Brendan stand out within the Transition Year Class.
Brendan continued to help out with the radio project after transition year, training other students and
lending assistance wherever possible. This showed great maturity on his part and again shows how
valuable he would be in any organisation.
Brendan had a huge interest in media before Transition Year, and subsequently established Carrick-
on-Shannon Youth Film Society. He has helped script, direct and produce many short films, all of
which are of a high quality.
Brendan contributed to last year’s school yearbook and it is evident that he has gained a rounded
media experience even before commencing his studies in IADT Dun Laoghaire.
Brendan is a pleasure to deal with and would be an asset to any organisation. I wish him the best of
luck in his studies, work experience and Future Career. I have no hesitation recommending Brendan
to any employer.
