To Whom It May Concern:
Breanna Merritts spent the summer of 2016 at our Chassix Montague facility in the role of intern,
focusing on controls engineering. Chassix is a privately held automotive supplier of precision casting
and machining solutions.
During the time that Breanna spent with us she has demonstrated professionalism, an eagerness to
learn, determination and a strong technical aptitude. Listed below is a small sampling of the type of
projects Breanna was involved in.
1. Revised electrical drawings
2. Acquired various plumbing and mechanical skills
3. Helped with refurbishing the BMW thread checker machines
4. Ford Raptor Black Dot project
 Found a sprayer and ink combination that fulfilled the customer’s
requirements
 Interacted with multiple vendors to better understand products and obtained
quotes
 Created a decision matrix to decide which marker/ink combination to select
 Ordered the products
 Refurbished old part marking stand to create new black dot application station
(reprogrammed, revised electrical drawings, rewired control panel)
 Tested out station and refined functionality
 Wrote work instructions (single point lesson) for the station’s operation
5. Ford Black Dot Verification project
 Researched how to determine the color of the dot on the Raptor parts,to see if
Ford Dearborn’s vision system would be able to detect the dot by speaking
with vendors and by using internet resources
 Relayed research to both Ford and Chassix Corporate in order to change how
they saw the problem and obtain a solution that worked for everyone involved
 Scheduled and carried out a demonstration from a vendor (X-Rite) by
collecting test parts and calling the representative to request the demo.
 Ordered the product (spectrophotometer)
 Tested product on five different ‘dots’ of varying shade and wrote down
findings in excelspreadsheet to determine the amount of acceptable deviation
from a ‘known good’ dot.
 Wrote work instructions on how to calibrate, set a standard, and measure with
the device.

 Reformatted standards so that it was easier to find things
 Helped implement new additions and revisions to the standards
 Reformatted acceptable electrical components list
