Marshal Alexandru Averescu was a prominent Romanian military leader and politician in the early 20th century. He served as the Commander of the Romanian Armed Forces during World War I and later became Prime Minister leading three separate cabinets between 1920-1921. Averescu first gained attention for helping repress a violent peasant revolt in 1907 and is credited with engineering the successful defense of Moldavia against attack during World War I from 1916-1917, which added to his popularity and allowed him to found the successful People's Party political party.
