“LOCAL-EYES” YOUTH ART SHOW
ROANOKE, VA, July 27, 2015 - Youth Advocate Programs (YAP) and Project: Real Talk (P:RT) in
partnership with the O. Winston Link Museum, joined to provide a 6-week photography workshop for
local youth. The resulting exhibition, ”Local-Eyes,” will showcase the work of the students . A public
opening will be held on August 4, 2015 from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at the O. Winston Link Museum. The exhibit
will run from the date of opening, August 4, 2015 through September 4, 2015.
The event will be a reception-style, photography showing featuring images captured by the youth of
both programs. Youth Advocate Programs and Project: Real Talk feel strongly that any artistic medium
tend to be therapeutic, as well as give voice through a creative outlet.
“Local-Eyes” is a play on words and reflects the view and vantage point of area youth in and around the
Roanoke Valley. It also represents the manner in which YAP works in the community to provide full-
family support and advocacy through family and community engagement. Youth Advocate Programs
traces its roots to 1975 and is one of the largest non-profit agencies providing exclusively non-residential,
community-based programs. Proudly, the Roanoke YAP office has served more than 150 young people
and families in its 6-year, local history.
Project: Real Talk (P:RT) is a program designed to provide a gateway experience to other enrichment
programs and opportunities for girls between the ages of 12-18 in lower-income communities. . The
program launched June 2014 in partnership with the Roanoke Redevelopment and Housing Authority
(RRHA). Its mission is to nurture girls into healthy futures.
