3. Boston Population: 667,137
The city I picked to do was Boston. Boston was founded by Governor Winthrop in
September 7, 1630, with the place named after the town of Boston, in the English
county of Lincolnshire, from which several prominent colonists emigrated
4. Harris-Ullman’s Multiple-Nuclei Model
The city of Boston follows
Harris-Ullman’s
Multiple-Nuclei Model, because
The city model has things placed
Throughout the city, like
Central business district and,
Medium class residential.
5. Primate City
Boston follows the Primate city rule. Boston is the biggest city in Massachusetts.
And the second biggest city is Worcester which has a population of 181,045.
6. Boston City Limits
Bostons is a very big city with a very big
Population. The population is just a little
Under 670,000.
11. primary sector, secondary sector, tertiary sector
Boston isn't very big in Primary sector, because it's a big city so there won't be very
many places for them to grow crops and have farms.
Boston is much bigger in the secondary sector, Boston is responsible for many of
things are are used throughout the US, like the American Subway System.
Tertiary sector is not as big but still big, Boston have tons of services, like Dunkin
Donuts.
12. Consumer service, Business service, and Public
service.
Consumer services: Boston is responsible for something that most places would be
able to survive without, its frozen foods. So many stores sell frozen foods.
Business services: Boston has a lot of business, some that are small, and some that
are super large, one example is Dunkin Donuts.
Public services: One example of a public service in Boston is, the police service of
Boston.
13. Day 1
Day 1: Today I took a tour of the city of Boston. I got accepted into Harvard Medical
School and will move there in the fall. I would prefer to live close to the school, so I
don’t have to have a car. Also living closer to the college is much easier, because
there will be other students I can find to live with and will have to spend a lot of time
at school. I also need a place that doesn’t cost a lot.
14. Day 2
Day 2: I have chosen the small place called Mission Hill. Mission Hill is a small neighborhood
that is right next to Harvard Medical School, and would be easy to get to campus. I can take the
MBTA subway system to get around or even walk to school. Over 65 percent of residents
walk, bike or use public transportation regularly. The neighborhood has a population of about
16,000, with many of these being students. It is close to one square mile in size. It also has a
much lower cost of rent than other areas around Boston. It is a very nice and peaceful place to
live while I go to school there.
15. Day 3
Day 3: Mission Hills was affected by urban sprawl. The area used to be an orchard a
long time ago. In the early 1900’s immigrants moved to the area. When they started
moving out in the 1950’s everyone thought there was more crime in the area so
people stopped moving there. Housing prices dropped. But in the past few years
many young professionals and students moved there because of lower housing costs
and to be closer to school and work. It is nice because students cannot always afford
nice houses.
16. Day 4
Day 4: I don’t think there is a lot of smart growth in Mission Hill. There are lots of
schools, medical center, some museums and many restaurants and bars. There is a
large park and trails and nice places to walk. It is a very attractive place to come and
live and houses are cheaper than other places in Boston.
17. Day 5
Day 5: In the city of Boston there are so many things you can do. Everything from going to a
beach, to watching the Boston Marathon to walking the Freedom Trail. When you walk the
Freedom Trail you go by more than 15 different important places in history of the
Revolutionary War. Including the Old North Church where the “one if by land two if by sea”
lanterns were supposed to have been hung and Paul Revere’s house. You can go visit the New
England Aquarium. You could go see the Red Socks hit a homerun over the green monster, or
go watch the Boston Bruins at a hockey game. You could go to the Museum of Fine Arts or go
take a walk in inner city Boston, and try all the different types of foods that they have to offer.
You can even go to the oldest restaurant in the United States, The Union Oyster House, where
they had special tables reserved for the President and his Family. George Washington, John F
Kennedy and Teddy Roosevelt ate there. They even have Kraft macaroni and cheese on the
menu.
