To Whom it May Concern:
I am interested in applying for a position as an English teacher at your school. I recently
completed my first year as a secondary English instructor at Oakland International Academy,
following a student teaching experience with Kelly Giromini at Salem High School, which gave
me an opportunity to design, deliver, and assess lessons in writing and literature courses.
Serving, primarily, the Yemeni and Bengali population of Hamtramck, this position required me
to differentiate every lesson for ELLs of a variety of levels of proficiency. In April 2014, I
received both my provisional teaching certificate and my Master of Arts in English from Wayne
State.
Additionally, I have taught college composition at Wayne State University. This allows me a
unique vantage point to gauge the skills high school graduates need to be successful in college.
Concurrently, I worked as a teaching assistant at the International Academy East spending
considerable time tutoring individuals and small groups of students in secondary language arts
and history in addition to providing classroom coverage for absent teachers. I also conducted a
summer school remedial writing workshop for entering freshmen of the International Academy.
The objectives of the course were to review basic grammar and composition, develop effective
and flexible writing strategies, and introduce students to the expectations of the IB curriculum.
This course, as well as the ones I taught at Wayne State featured online elements on Moodle and
BlackBoard, respectively.
Furthermore, I have worked as both a private tutor and a writing center tutor at both Wayne State
and Marygrove College. In that capacity, I have worked face-to-face and online personalizing
instructional support for college students in composition courses and with writing assignments in
other courses.
I would like to combine my range of experience with my passion for education in order to make
a positive contribution as an enthusiastic, compassionate, and intelligent teacher at your school.
I would welcome an interview and hope to hear from you at your earliest convenience.
Sincerely,
Bradley Stabler
