This document compares the characters of Mrs. Ramsay from Virginia Woolf's novel "To the Lighthouse" and Sunanda from the Hindi story "Patni" by Jainendra. Both Mrs. Ramsay and Sunanda are portrayed as traditional housewives who sacrifice their own desires and dreams for their families. They take care of their husbands and children without complaint, even though their husbands do not appreciate their efforts. While Mrs. Ramsay acts as a unifying force, Sunanda's inner thoughts reveal her longing for freedom and independence that she is unable to attain. Both characters exemplify the selfless nature and sacrifices expected of women in their respective societies.
