Home prices across the United States grew at the fastest pace on record in September 2021 according to the Case-Shiller index, rising 19.5% from a year ago. The fastest growth was seen in Idaho while North Dakota saw the slowest growth. Margin balances at brokers and dealers that allow investors to borrow against their portfolios also rose sharply, posing potential risks if home prices decline substantially from current high levels.
