growth factor (PRGF) therapies to eligible patients. PRGF is a fast, FDA-
approved technique that reduces healing times.
Patients with high rates of bone absorption often require bone grafts to
stabilize dental implants. Traditionally, bone grafts can take up to six
months to fully heal. During this period, complications such as infections
can arise. Additionally, patients with chronic diseases, such as poorly
controlled diabetes, are at higher risk of developing complications.
To minimize negative side effects for certain high-risk patients, dentists
may recommend PRGF as part of the recovery process. PRGF is made of
proteins usually found in the bloodstream. During a PRGF procedure,
these proteins are separated from a small sample of the patient’s blood.
The concentrated PRGF is then injected into the surgery site, where it
stimulates the formation of bone and soft tissue cells. Accelerating cell
growth can reduce recovery time significantly.
