Overview
Cloud applications such as Azure Cloud Computing are empowering the internet more than ever. This technology is
streamlining business processes by securing and storing data, boosting the value of work, and reducing the production
expense. Earlier, we relied on various local systems and servers to install and run different apps. Today, organizations are
mostly outsourcing such services through external cloud service providers. This eBook gives you complete clarity on what
Cloud technology is all about by citing easy-to-understand examples.
Suppose your organization has outsourced Cloud Computing service like Citrix cloud from a third party. So, now you need
to pay according to its usage, just as in the case of electricity bill payments. Cloud is somewhat like power; you need to plug
in the socket, and you will be charged as per the amount consumed. To conclude, the Cloud focuses on enabling users to
access data on their laptops through a hosting environment or a remote data center. By learning Cloud Computing, you can
fast-track your career in high growth areas like Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Machine Learning, Big Data Analytics, etc.

History and Development of Cloud Computing
The term ‘cloud’ originated from telephony. The telecommunication industry provided good quality Virtual Private Network
(VPN) at reasonable rates. The definition of virtualization started to change during the 1970s, and today it means the
formation of a virtual device that functions like an actual computer. The idea of virtualization derived from the internet, as
enterprises started providing virtual private networks as service. Gradually, the concept of virtual PCs began gaining
popularity in the 1990s, resulting in the idea of the modern Cloud Computing. The symbol representing Cloud shows the
demarcation point, which was solely the responsibility of the provider. It monitors the management of services and network
infrastructure.
The development of Cloud Computing can be divided into three primary stages:
The Idea Stage: This stage incepted with the progression of utility and grid computing and persisted till the pre-internet era.
Cloud Computing was founded by Joseph Carl Robnett Licklider.
The Pre-cloud Stage: This stage began in the year 1999 and continued till 2006. During the pre-cloud era, the technology
was an irresistible force, and the IT industry finally realized the significance of Cloud and the fact that they need to adopt this
fast, easy-to-access, and cost-saving technology.
The Cloud Stage: The actual cloud stage began to take its shape from the year 2007 when the segregation of IaaS (Infra-
structure-as-a-service), PaaS (Platform-as-a-service), and SaaS (Software-as-a-service) got validated. The evolution of Cloud
Computing has experienced significant breakthroughs introduced by some of the top-notch global web players.
Brief explanation on the three different cloud computing services:
SaaS
IaaS
PaaS

IaaS (Infrastructure-as-a-service) manages raw computing storage. It is the most basic service that offers virtualized
computing assets over the internet. Network Architects working at different tech companies significantly use IaaS. The
objective is to access the power of computing, irrespective of any installation or maintenance.
PaaS (Platform-as-a-service) is used by developers for application development. It acts as a virtual backend platform in
which businesses can write software for building custom apps or incorporating existing apps. PaaS is equipped with different
application development technologies, including Python, Java, .NET, Ruby, or Rails. Whenever the coding is done, the service
provider hosts it for the accessibility of other internet users.
SaaS (Software-as-a-service) is the largest and most advanced part of the Cloud. It is a set of applications, or a program,
present within the Cloud, instead of a system’s hard drive. SaaS is commonly used by end-users for multiple business
applications such as CRM, HRM, ERP, database management, content management, and much more.
Cloud Vs On-Premises: A Comparative Analysis
The increasing adoption of Cloud has made several vendors move from on-premise solutions to cloud services. Most of the
IT companies are choosing training programs like Azure Cloud Computing courses, CompTIA Cloud certification, etc. to
upskill their employees. This shift has led to the rise of the question, “which is a more suitable option for businesses in terms
of security, affordability, and accessibility?”.
Cloud services have undoubtedly shaken up the industry by bringing flexibility, efficiency, and strategic value for businesses
that use it. However, the hot debate on Cloud vs. on-premise software continues. After a thorough research and comparative
analysis, this eBook gives you a clear insight on which is a good option for your business.

Why is Cloud a better option?
Cloud is considered a better option than on-premise due to its unique attributes like security, flexibility, and reliability. The
technology has reduced the burden of IT infrastructure maintenance and updating, which has led businesses to save time,
effort, and money for achieving their core business strategies. Unlike on-premise software, Cloud provides the flexibility of
getting real-time access to data and systems from any IT devices irrespective of the location.
Quick Stats on Cloud Migrated Business Profits
94% of business witnessed a substantial improvement in
terms of security after migrating to the Cloud. 91% claimed
that with Cloud, it is easier to accomplish government
compliance requirements.
According to Dell, organizations that invested in Cloud, big
data, mobility, and security experienced approximately 53%
faster growth in revenue compared to their competitors.

Top 10 Entrepreneurial Benefits of Cloud Migration
Cloud Technology, with its exceptional benefits, is attracting the attention of top IT tycoons and market players. Migration of
web, desktop, or mobile apps to Cloud, allows companies to access the apps anytime and from anywhere so that they can
stay in connection with their target market. Today, organizations using the Cloud can easily access real-time data, which en-
ables them to make quick and accurate entrepreneurial decisions. Below mentioned are some meticulous insights on cloud
migration.
1. Greater Agility
Cloud-based applications and data are globally accessible. Therefore, employees can access these apps via their smart-
phones or tablets and perform their tasks anytime and from anywhere.
2. Disaster Recovery
Data Protection is the fundamental need for any business. It is the core component of an organization’s continuity planning.
Cloud is helping businesses by saving their valuable data against natural disasters, sudden power cuts, or other crisis.
3. Automatic Software Update
Businesses can now avoid unnecessary IT infrastructure maintenance headache and cost as it will be the responsibility of the
cloud service provider.
4. Scalability
Using Cloud, growing organizations can scale up or scale down their storage needs depending on the increasing demands
and changing situations.
5. Data Security
Damage of any IT device leads to a huge business setback not only in terms of the loss of an expensive piece but also for
the loss of the invaluable data that was stored inside it. Cloud ensures a greater level of security by enabling secure storage,
accessibility, and data removal from the lost or stolen systems.
6. Reduced IT Expense
With Cloud, companies can utilize the server and infrastructure limit of the third-party service provider and pay only as per
their usage. Hence, there is no need to spend extra amounts for purchasing expensive IT equipment.

7. Better Team Collaboration
Through cloud-based file sharing and workflow applications, your teams can work in complete collaboration with full visibility
and real-time updates.
8. Document Control
Since Cloud makes all documents get stored centrally, all users can access the latest versions of the uploaded materials. It
ensures a streamlined flow of work as users can edit, share, and check all the necessary information straight from the server.
9. Greater Competitive Edge
Shifting to cloud delivery models allows businesses to gain enterprise-class technology access. With its pay-as-you-go service,
even start-up companies can compete with big brands and challenge them hard.
10. Work from Anywhere
Cloud applications can be accessed from anywhere if you have a reliable internet connection. This feature helps businesses
to provide work flexibility for their employees, promote employee work-life balance without hampering productivity.

Common Cloud Migration Challenges Faced by Every CIO
According to RightScale, businesses using a hybrid strategy that combines both public and private clouds significantly
declined from 58% in 2017 to 51% in 2018, and on the other hand businesses using a strategy of multiple public/private
clouds rose to some extent. This eBook explores some of the common cloud migration challenges faced by CIOs.
Lack of a well-defined strategy and business goals
Cloud service provider lock-in
Lack of proper cloud migration cost analysis
Security and privacy constraints
Dependable technological infrastructure
Problem in connecting legacy systems with cloud applications
Migrating to the cloud network implies a shift of the organization’s in-house infrastructure to a virtual computing
environment, which can be a challenging process. However, it is essential for businesses to understand the methods of
handling such challenges before making that shift.

This technology is streamlining business processes by securing and storing data, boosting the value of work, and reducing the production expense. Earlier, we relied on various local systems and servers to install and run different apps. Today, organizations are mostly outsourcing such services through external cloud service providers. This eBook gives you complete clarity on what Cloud technology is all about by citing easy-to-understand examples. Suppose your organization has outsourced Cloud Computing service like Citrix cloud from a third party. So, now you need to pay according to its usage, just as in the case of electricity bill payments. Cloud is somewhat like power; you need to plug in the socket, and you will be charged as per the amount consumed. To conclude, the Cloud focuses on enabling users to access data on their laptops through a hosting environment or a remote data center. By learning Cloud Computing, you can fast-track your career in high growth areas like Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Machine Learning, Big Data Analytics, etc.

The telecommunication industry provided good quality Virtual Private Network (VPN) at reasonable rates. The definition of virtualization started to change during the 1970s, and today it means the formation of a virtual device that functions like an actual computer. The idea of virtualization derived from the internet, as enterprises started providing virtual private networks as service. Gradually, the concept of virtual PCs began gaining popularity in the 1990s, resulting in the idea of the modern Cloud Computing. The symbol representing Cloud shows the demarcation point, which was solely the responsibility of the provider. It monitors the management of services and network infrastructure. The development of Cloud Computing can be divided into three primary stages: The Idea Stage: This stage incepted with the progression of utility and grid computing and persisted till the pre-internet era. Cloud Computing was founded by Joseph Carl Robnett Licklider. The Pre-cloud Stage: This stage began in the year 1999 and continued till 2006. During the pre-cloud era, the technology was an irresistible force, and the IT industry finally realized the significance of Cloud and the fact that they need to adopt this fast, easy-to-access, and cost-saving technology. The Cloud Stage: The actual cloud stage began to take its shape from the year 2007 when the segregation of IaaS (Infra- structure-as-a-service), PaaS (Platform-as-a-service), and SaaS (Software-as-a-service) got validated. The evolution of Cloud Computing has experienced significant breakthroughs introduced by some of the top-notch global web players. Brief explanation on the three different cloud computing services: SaaS IaaS PaaS
  • 5. © 2020 NETCOM LEARNING www.netcomlearning.com | info@netcomlearning.com | (888) 563 8266 5 IaaS (Infrastructure-as-a-service) manages raw computing storage. It is the most basic service that offers virtualized computing assets over the internet. Network Architects working at different tech companies significantly use IaaS. The objective is to access the power of computing, irrespective of any installation or maintenance. PaaS (Platform-as-a-service) is used by developers for application development. It acts as a virtual backend platform in which businesses can write software for building custom apps or incorporating existing apps. PaaS is equipped with different application development technologies, including Python, Java, .NET, Ruby, or Rails. Whenever the coding is done, the service provider hosts it for the accessibility of other internet users. SaaS (Software-as-a-service) is the largest and most advanced part of the Cloud. It is a set of applications, or a program, present within the Cloud, instead of a system’s hard drive. SaaS is commonly used by end-users for multiple business applications such as CRM, HRM, ERP, database management, content management, and much more. Cloud Vs On-Premises: A Comparative Analysis The increasing adoption of Cloud has made several vendors move from on-premise solutions to cloud services. Most of the IT companies are choosing training programs like Azure Cloud Computing courses, CompTIA Cloud certification, etc. to upskill their employees. This shift has led to the rise of the question, “which is a more suitable option for businesses in terms of security, affordability, and accessibility?”. Cloud services have undoubtedly shaken up the industry by bringing flexibility, efficiency, and strategic value for businesses that use it. However, the hot debate on Cloud vs. on-premise software continues. After a thorough research and comparative analysis, this eBook gives you a clear insight on which is a good option for your business. Cloud Software On-Premise Software Pros Cons Pros Cons Easy Accessibility Technical Issues Complete Control Maintenance Responsibility Cost Effective Needs Strong Internet Connectivity Low Total Cost of Ownership Huge Capital Expenditure Higher Levels of Flexibility & Security Vulnerable to attacks Lower Dependency on Internet Connectivity Greater Implementation Time

Cloud is considered a better option than on-premise due to its unique attributes like security, flexibility, and reliability. The technology has reduced the burden of IT infrastructure maintenance and updating, which has led businesses to save time, effort, and money for achieving their core business strategies. Unlike on-premise software, Cloud provides the flexibility of getting real-time access to data and systems from any IT devices irrespective of the location. Quick Stats on Cloud Migrated Business Profits 94% of business witnessed a substantial improvement in terms of security after migrating to the Cloud. 91% claimed that with Cloud, it is easier to accomplish government compliance requirements. According to Dell, organizations that invested in Cloud, big data, mobility, and security experienced approximately 53% faster growth in revenue compared to their competitors. 20% of cloud migrators say disaster recovery in less than four hours compared to only 9% of non-cloud migrators could claim the same. 27% 20% 9% CLOUD USERS NON-CLOUD USERS USES CLAIMING DISASTER RECOVERY IN 4 HOURS OR LESS Info Source: Salesforce

Migration of web, desktop, or mobile apps to Cloud, allows companies to access the apps anytime and from anywhere so that they can stay in connection with their target market. Today, organizations using the Cloud can easily access real-time data, which en- ables them to make quick and accurate entrepreneurial decisions. Below mentioned are some meticulous insights on cloud migration. 1. Greater Agility Cloud-based applications and data are globally accessible. Therefore, employees can access these apps via their smart- phones or tablets and perform their tasks anytime and from anywhere. 2. Disaster Recovery Data Protection is the fundamental need for any business. It is the core component of an organization’s continuity planning. Cloud is helping businesses by saving their valuable data against natural disasters, sudden power cuts, or other crisis. 3. Automatic Software Update Businesses can now avoid unnecessary IT infrastructure maintenance headache and cost as it will be the responsibility of the cloud service provider. 4. Scalability Using Cloud, growing organizations can scale up or scale down their storage needs depending on the increasing demands and changing situations. 5. Data Security Damage of any IT device leads to a huge business setback not only in terms of the loss of an expensive piece but also for the loss of the invaluable data that was stored inside it. Cloud ensures a greater level of security by enabling secure storage, accessibility, and data removal from the lost or stolen systems. 6. Reduced IT Expense With Cloud, companies can utilize the server and infrastructure limit of the third-party service provider and pay only as per their usage. Hence, there is no need to spend extra amounts for purchasing expensive IT equipment.
