FOREWORD
The book The Market Place Ministry is very
exciting as well as informative.
I am honored and blessed to see Dr Gabriel
pen down some of the basic biblical teachings
I have been living with through the year. The
book seeks to explain the need for us to make
our professions or gifts a platform for the
spreading of the gospel.
By his word light doesn’t need light, rather
darkness needs light. The Church being the
gathering together of the called out ones who
share fellowship in the light should let their light
shine wherever they are found. Just like you
cannot light your light and hid it under a
covering, likewise he advised the saints to let
their light shine; that’s the Ministry of the
Market Place.
The calling of God upon our lives is an
expression of his love hence God is expecting

us to engage the power of darkness with the
fire of light in all the various market place.
In Mathew 5:16 , our Lord Jesus admonish to
let our light shine before Men that they may see
your good works, and glorify your Father which
is in heaven”. From the above scripture, it
becomes clear that we are called into duty and
there should be no peace or space left for the
“evil one and his cohorts. The master gave us
all that he is and in order to accomplish this
assignment, in Mathew 28:18-20 He gave us
the assurance of his power, His sovereignty
and above all His presence as we take the
whole world in reconciliation.
Market Place Ministry from the writer‘s view is
God’s Master plan for all His saints on earth.
He strategically designed it well to enable
everyone function productively from their
domain of influence without stress.
His grace came upon the gifted to empower
His saints to succeed in their calling. The
market place is a battle ground; the redeemed

being an occupational army are called to take
over.
Standing upon the inexhaustible resources
penned down in this book, I recommend it to
the saints and I advice them to take up the
challenge and execute the truth established in
the book.
I humbly pray that every reader will take
obedience to word in acting.

INTRODUCTION
Our world is filled with catastrophes and endemic
diseases. The world is suffering from spiritual
problem and it is only spiritual and not political that
we can get solution. Our political elites cannot
solve our problems but only Jesus can do it.
Apostle Paul wrote to the Christians in Colossians,
“In whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in
the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to
God the father through Him” (Col. 3:17)
Everything we do as Christians should stem from
acts of worship. People in ministry heal the sick,
cast out demons and spend countless sessions
doing counseling for those confused or seeking
direction. Also, they spend quality time for prayer
meetings and various services.
The pastors and other ministers in the church
preach the gospel steadily to people and make
sure that church conferences, activities and
retreats is in order. We pray and fast in
preparation for impartation, we seek God’s face,

kneeling to God for spiritual maturity. All these we
do in the church but how many of you worship God
in your job, places, and factories?
How many of you discuss or share the good news
about Jesus there? How many of you pastors
equip the saints not to depend on you but sent out
to share good news in their job places? Hear what,
Jesus said, “What shall I liken the men of this
generation; what are they like?
They are like unto children sitting in the market
place, and calling one to another and saying,
we are piped unto you and ye have not
danced; we have mourned to you, and ye have
not wept” (Luke 7:31-32). Can you imagine little
children in the market place, they don’t know road
to their homes; all they would do is crying for help
of direction.
That is what Jesus said, that the people in your
job places are like. That means they don’t know
Christ, but no one seeks to show them the way of
Christ. Christians today do not hold down secured
work and even try to share their faith with others.

Listen, it is not all Christians that are called to be
pastors, teachers, evangelists or prophets. Some
are called to minister in the church. Christians are
supposed to approach their clients and share their
faith. Some Christian share their faith during the
work and seeds of Christ in the people they meet
the seeds they plants are invaluable and are more
needed by those of us (pastors) who do the
harvesting. Their value, like intercessors, will go
unknown until we stand before the throne and
receive our crown. While some Christians do
share their faith at work. There are still another
kind of Christians at place that go to their job to
complete the task at hand, never even
contemplating sharing their testimony or that they
are working for the kingdom of God. They just
want to be good at their jobs. They go in and out,
getting the work done, so they can spend time
golfing or with their family. They never even
considered sharing their faith because it would be
unheard of or they are afraid of being asked
questions they don’t know the answer. Brethren,
God wants you to do everything you do with
spiritual excellence and physical excellences
Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR

whether you are working out, cooking, dinner,
packing boxes, treating patients, serving clients or
customers, everything must be done to share the
gospel either by your manner or by vocal sharing
your faith.
I want to tell you that if everyone took a deeper
look into their lives and others, a lot could be told
and people in the market place would come to
accept Christ. Hear what Jesus said, “For
whosoever gives you cup of water to drink in my
name , because you belong to Christ, assuredly, I
say to you, the will by no means lose this reward”
(matt 9:41) No matter your profession or career,
you are on duty for Jesus. You are a preacher for
Jesus, not only your pastor in the church. I am
very sure that God will use this book to open your
eyes , so you could see what God sees for this
people. Also , to accept the mandate of market
place evangelism.

CHAPTER ONE THE CHRISTIAN LIFE
You are a church member and attend church
activities doesn’t make you a Christian.
Christianity is Christ in your flesh. That is
physiologically and anatomically you represent
Christ.
So Christianity is far beyond being member of a
church, pastor, evangelist, bishop, reverend etc.
What makes you a Christian is not what you called
yourself or your church title but Christ inside of
your flesh.
A Christian is the one who show, witness Christ
to others in truth and in spirit.
Hear what Jesus said, “follow me and I will
make you fishers of men” (Matt.11:19).
‘’Go therefore and make disciples of the
nations” (Matt. 28:19). Every Christian must be
involved in witnessing what they represent
(Christ) either in word or attitude.

The Must Do For Christian Life
Christianity is a “life” and must live according to a
norm and prescription from God.
For those of you that have purchased generator or
any other equipment, you would have seen user’s
manual. It is the manual that tells you about the
“must do” for maintaining the life span and quality
of the generator. These can be changing the oil,
filling tanks with gasoline etc. These are not
negotiable, so you must spend time to ask for it if
you want it to last for you. The same principle is
applicable to believers. As a Christian only follow
the “must do” to enable God be glorified. The must
do include:
(a) You must worship God, not comfort
- “Although the fig tree shall not blossom, neither
shall fruits be in the vines; the labourers of the
olive shall fail and the fields shall yield meat; the
flock shall be cut off from the folds and there shall
be no herd in the streets; yet I will rejoice in the
Lord, I will joy in the God of my salvation”
(Habakkuk 3:17-18)

I always told my fellow believers that being a
Christian doesn’t mean absolute void from
challenges or suffering. As Christians, in certain
phases of our lives we are being tested for our
faith.
I don’t know anyone who enjoys suffering, but I
know many who have benefitted from the maturity
that occur as a recompense of the challenge. Are
you celebrating in the midst of your difficulties or
do you seek comfort as a means of escape?
Where suffering comes you must pass through,
but not runaway from God who allowed it to come
to fruition. Every suffering God allows on your way
has a comfort at the end. But if you escape the
suffering for comfort (temporary); then you will
meet a lasting suffering. Christians must not
runaway from God for the quest for comfort.
(b) You must obey God, not appetites – Apostle
Paul said, “Know ye not that they which run in a
race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So, run
that ye may obtain and every man that striveth for
the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they
do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an

GABRIEL JEREMIAH

incorruptible. I therefore so run, not on
uncertainty; so fight I, not as one that beateth to
air but I keep under my body and bring it unto
subjection lest that by any means, when I have
preached to others,
I myself should be a castaway”
(I Cor. 9:24-27) Our appetites are the passions
that we have within our flesh, contrary to the
spirit, craving and battling to be satisfied. If you
give in even the slightest to these desires, the
enemy can use that to launch an attack in
yourself. At the same time, the same trivial act in
obedience to God demands two main things. It
demands courage to say No to self, No to
appetites, No to lust of the flesh, No to what is
easy and Yes to carrying the cross. It also
demands faithfulness – the plodding endurance
to God, to His call, and to that which He calls you
to suffer only yielding to the cross. Can you obey
God, not your appetites? Dr. Jerkins Keith in one
of his visit to Africa here called stomach central
Government . stomach can never get tired of
receiving until it lands you into trouble. Stomach
had killed many and led many out of their
Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR

5
anointing . I decree over you that is reading this
book today, every program programmed through
stomach to highjack your destiny be
deprogrammed in Jesus name.
(c) Serve God, not self - “Also I heard the voice
of the Lord, saying, whom shall I send, and who
will go for us? Then said I, Here I am, send me”
(Isaiah 6:8) The concept of becoming a “bond
slave” in the scriptures means that we are the
slaves and He is the master. That means that we
must surrender completely without reservation.
May we see the type of service as lowly and it is
humility but it should also be seen as a privilege
to serve Him. If you see serving God as a
privilege, then no body will remind you to serve
Him well. I remember what Pst. Tony Chuks
Okorie always told us ‘’you don’t need your
opinion in serving God’’. Meaning serve God the
way He is directing you. Just obey Him and serve.
(d) Believe God, not the deceiver- ”Ye are of
your father, the devil and the lusts of your father
ye will do. He was a murder from the beginning
Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR
GABRIEL JEREMIAH
6
and abode not in the truth, because there is no
truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh
of his own; for he is a liar and the father of it”.
(John 8:44).
Many believers now listen to the devil through
their agents and are unable to recognize God’s
voice. Most of them are looking for signs and
wonders elsewhere and the devil uses such
opportunity to cage them.
As believers, sometimes we don’t want to believe
the truth. When life and scripture collide, which
one do we believe and trust? The deceiver wants
us to believe his lie, will you believe God? The
scripture tells us that without faith it is impossible
to please God, but our nature is to move toward
unbelief. Never forget that your adversary is the
father of lies. He wants to destroy you, so he
works to make you doubt the promises and to
accuse the brethren. Do not allow nature to deny
you God’s
blessings.
(e) Love God, not the world – (I John 2:15-17):
What really is your affections objects? Power?
Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR
GABRIEL JEREMIAH
7
Hobbies? Recognition? When I first saw a fine
car, I felt deeply it were mine, but I was reminded
to be focused that mine will be bigger than that.
That means that I have to wait for my own time
and focus on my ministry.
Brother, money, authority and recognition are real
but the love of those things more than God is
worldly. You must not make material things a
subject of your affection instead, of God.
Church
Before the outset of the world’s foundation, God
purposed to give us His only begotten son to wipe
our sins away. In the old testaments, there were
prophesies about the son of God and his mighty
power. We were told of the saviour and the
kingdom he would establish (church). In the New
Testament, the scripture expatiates the birth,
ministry, death, burial and resurrection of the
saviour. What is the church? The word church
describes the people. Church (Greek, ekklesia,
from ek “out of; and klesia, “a calling”) is an
assembly or gathering of people. The church is
the called out people. People of the world. Church
Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR
GABRIEL JEREMIAH
8
can refer to the universal – all the called out, or it
can mean the local congregation. “Praising God,
and having favour with all the people. And the
Lord added to the church daily such as should
be saved” (Acts 2:4-5).The church contrary to the
usual belief is not the building or assembly but the
people. The church can be defined as the lost
body of Christ that was redeemed. I want you to
know that what connects us (Christians) together
is not the building, but Christ. So your church is
my church.
We are members of the same church. One body
with different parts. “There is one body and one
spirit even as ye are called in one hope of your
calling one Lord, one Father, one Baptism ,
one God and Father of all , who is above all
and through all, and in you all” (Eph 4;4-6) .
The kingdoms were single handedly created by
God and made his son (Jesus Christ) king. but
why are there many churches with different
doctrines opposing the established doctrine by the
king? Who divided the church of God? We need
Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR
GABRIEL JEREMIAH
9
to be careful, the church of God is one (the same
doctrine).
Just as the physical body has many parts (hands,
arms, legs, feet, eye, nose, mouth, etc.) and each
parts or members has its own place and duty. As
the parts of our physical body must work together
for us to function properly, so the members of the
spiritual body of Christians to accomplish God’s
work.
CHAPTER TWO NATURE OF GOD’S
KINGDOM/CHURCH
Christ is the head of the body. “But I would have
you know that the head of every man is
Christ”, (I Cor. 11:3a).
The church is the family of God who is the father
.The kingdom of God is a spiritual kingdom ruled
by Jesus Christ, the king, who is in heaven
reigning. The church is the called out people of the
world who become citizens of the kingdom when
they obey the king’s instructions. The church is
the body and faith in Jesus Christ are called sons
of God. The church is the temple or dwelling place
Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR
GABRIEL JEREMIAH
10
of God. The church is a bride betrothed to her
husband who is Christ.
THE PLAN OF GOD FOR SALVATION
The chief thing in evangelism is salvation. “To the
intent that now unto the principalities and
powers in heavenly places might be known by
the church the manifold wisdom of God,
according to the eternal purpose which he
purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Eph.
3:1011). God planned the church before he
established the world. In order to belong to a
particular organization there are steps you must
follow. You cannot just wake up and become a
member but follow established rules. Likewise in
God’s kingdom for you to be a citizen, you must
follow certain steps. God being so kind
demonstrated his plan for salvation through love.
“For God so loved the world that he gave His only
begotten son, that whoever believeth in him
should not perish but have everlasting life”. (John
3:16). God sent his son to the world (people) to be
a perfect sacrifice for sin. Jesus willingly offered
his body upon the cross as that sacrifice and the
Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR
GABRIEL JEREMIAH
11
blood he shed cleanses us all from our sins. “By
these we are sanctified through the offering of
the body of Jesus Christ once for all” (Heb.
10:10); “But if we work in the light, as he is in
the light, we fellowship one with another, and
the blood of Jesus Christ his son cleanses us
from all sins”. (I John 1:7)
Man’s salvation was planned by God, fulfilled by
Christ and revealed by the Holy Spirit. But man
has a part in his salvation too. In order to receive
eternal salvation, one must obey the gospel of
Jesus Christ. “Though he were a son, yet learned
obedience by the things which he suffered and
being made perfect, he became the author of
eternal salvation unto all them that obey him”
(Heb. 5:8-9).
STEPS OF SALVATION
Evangelism without salvation of soul is
incomplete. Just as I told you that salvation is the
chief thing in evangelism. The ministers of the
gospel must know how to lead a soul to Christ
through initiation which is the major work of the
Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR
GABRIEL JEREMIAH
12
evangelist. The following are the procedures
employed for salvation:
(a) Hearing: So then faith cometh by hearing
and hearing by the word of God” (Rom. 10:17).
Before a man gets to believe he must have faith
and faith can only come when one hears the
gospel. That means the gospel must be preached
to be heard. “How shall they call upon him of
whom they have not believed? And how shall they
believe him whom they have not heard and how
can they hear without a preacher. (Rom 10:14)
(b) Believe: You cannot follow who you do not
believe or trust. So in order to come to God you
must believe his word. “But without faith it is
impossible to please God; for he that cometh must
believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of
them that diligently seek him” (Heb. 11:6).
c) Repent: Repentance is changing from old way
of life to new way. “I tell you Nay; but except ye
repent, ye shall all likewise perish” (Luke 13:3).
“And the times of this ignorance God winked at;
but now commandeth all men everywhere to
Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR
GABRIEL JEREMIAH
13
repent”. You can’t be saved without putting away
sin.
(d) Confession: Confession is simply
witnessing Christ before the word. That means
that you are firmly professing and attesting Christ
(He came, died, buried and resurrected for my
sake, Lord and personal saviour). “That if thou
shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and
shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised
him from the dead, thou shall be saved. For with
the heart man believeth unto righteousness and
with the mouth confession is made unto salvation”
(Rom. 10:9-10). “Whosoever therefore shall
confess me before men, him will I confess also
before my father which is in heaven” (Matt. 10:32).
(e) Baptism: Baptism is an initiation of man into
the kingdom of God. The baptism (initiation)
cleanses you from your Adamic nature and gives
you a new nature in Christ. “He that believeth and
is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth
not shall be damned” (Mark 16:16). “Then Peter
said unto them, repent and be baptized every one
of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the
Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR
GABRIEL JEREMIAH
14
remission of sins and ye shall receive the gift of
the Holy Ghost” (Acts 2:38).
Baptism is for the remission of past sins. If one
sins after he has been baptized, what is
necessary to receive forgiveness is repentance.
Hear what the bible says “Repent therefore of this
thy wickedness and pray God if perhaps the
thought of thine heart may be forgiven thee” (Acts
8:22)
(f) Faithfulness: In Agricultural science, the
tools for farm practice need to be maintained for
effective functioning and durability. Also, in
Biology (Human Biology), for you to live long all
the organs in the body must be maintained for
proper functioning. If you must live long all the
organs (body organs), must function effectively
and effectiveness can only result from proper
body maintenance, likewise, being born again is
not enough without maintenance. “Fear none of
those things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the
devil shall cast some of you into prison that ye
may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation days;
Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR
GABRIEL JEREMIAH
15
be thou faithful unto death and I will give thee a
crown of life” (Rev. 2:10)
After one has obeyed by following the steps of
repentance, faithfulness is necessary to receive
the crown of life. No matter the gravity of
challenges you must not be abdicted. Abraham
was faithful and God counted unto his as
righteousness. Are you faithful in God? I pray that
God will help us to remain faithful in Jesus despite
the circumstances that may surround us.

CHAPTER THREE
THE MANDATE FOR MARKET PLACE
MINISTRY
Market place is any where you work or out side
Christian gathering. Market place ministry or
evangelism is the process of sharing one’s faith
with co-workers, clients or customers.
Jesus gave a mandate to his disciples saying, “But
go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
And as ye go, preach, saying, the kingdom of
heaven is at hand. Heal the sick, cleanse the
lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils; freely ye
have received, freely ye give: (Matt. 10:6-8).
The household of Israel are the people scattered
all over the place, not only in the church. Jesus
Christ commanded us to preach him to them
anywhere we find ourselves.
I want you to stop minimizing yourselves (the body
of Christ), every Christian have one spiritual gift or
the other. “But the manifestation of the
Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR
GABRIEL JEREMIAH
17
spirit is given to every man to profit withal. For to
one is given by the spirit the word of wisdom; to
another the word of knowledge by the same spirit;
to another faith by the same spirit; to another the
gifts of healing by the same spirit; to another the
working of working of miracles by the same spirit;
to another prophecy; to another discerning of the
spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to
another the interpretation of tongues; but all these
worketh that one and the self same spirit, dividing
to every man severally as he will”. (I Cor. 12:7-11)
Any Christian that has non of the above is not alive
and must be resurrected. No matter where you
find yourself, you must endeavor to share what
you have received a gift, use it to serve one
another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace»
(I Peter4:10 NIV)
While some Christians tried to avoid the divine
mandate, others hid themselves in the corner of
the church to do this ministry. But look at Amos,
he was neither a prophet nor a pastor but a
herdsman, taking care of sheep and God asked
him to go and prophesy. Amos became very
Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR
GABRIEL JEREMIAH
18
strong in the prophetic ministry just because he
accepted the mandate on him. The ministry of
Amos was not done in the corner; he took it out to
those God sent him for. Amos at a point began to
yield much impact that even the king became
uncomfortable with Him.
The king gave order that Amos should stop
prophesying. Amos reminded the king that as He
(king) knew, he was neither a prophet nor a son of
a prophet but he became a prophet as chosen by
God. (Amos 2:1-15):
Who told you that you must preach only in the
church or you must be a preacher on the pulpit (all
preachers preach only on the pulpit) or you must
be an evangelist before you can preach the
gospel?
CHAPTER FOUR DIFFERENT CALLINGS
In contrast to some people’s conclusion about
callings that there are full and part time services
or calling (God called some to serve him full time
and some part time), for me all Christians are
Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR
GABRIEL JEREMIAH
19
called to serve God full time. There is nothing like
part time service, the notion of part time ministers
or Christians is a misconception.
I want to ask you, is there any part of your body
that is working part time? Is your heart not beating
full time? Any Christian who professed to be a part
time Christian is completely unserious and a full
time sinner. The truth is always bitter, but believe
me or not, I must say this, every Christian is called
full time and should work full time.
The only thing any one could say is that they are
called on divers platforms. Your career is an
avenue to share your faith. The era of one great
man or woman of God is caput . Jesus died for all
of us and sent all of us the Holy spirit. He didn’t
die only for those people you are ministering
yourself for. The same God that died for those
greqt men of God died for you too. “But the Lord
said unto him, “For he is a chosen vessel unto me,
to bear my name before the gentiles and kingdom
and the children of Israel” (Acts 9:15),
Acts 13:2 “As they ministered unto the Lord, and
fasted, the Holy Ghost said, separate me

Barnabas and Saul for the work wherein unto I
have called them”.
The ministry work is not for only pastors, teachers,
every elder, prophets but for every body. The high
time we did accept divine responsibility the better
for our world.
(a) The Five Fold or Key Ministry
When Christians ask about calling or vocation it is
usual means, “Is God calling me for a particular
job, profession or type of work? The reason for
this question is so significant because the work we
do is important;it makes sense to ask what work
God wants us to do. In the Bible, God does called
people to particular work, and gives all people
various kinds of guidance for their work. Although
scripture seldom uses the word” call” to describe
God’s guidance to jobs, occupations or tasks,
these occupations in the Bible do correspond to
vocational ”calling”. In the Bible, the concept of
calling goes deeper than anyone aspect of life,
such as work. God calls people to become united
with Him in every aspect of life. But this can only
happen if we respond to Christ’s call to follow Him.
Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR
GABRIEL JEREMIAH
21
There are five types of calling according to the
scripture with their various functions. “Accordingly
he has chosen us in Him before the foundation of
the world, that we should be holy and without
“blame in love” (Eph. 1:4) Ephesians 4:11 “And
He gave the Apostles, the Prophets, the
Evangelists, the Shepherds and Teachers”.
i. Apostles: - The word “apostle” was originally a
secular word in Greek society that means an
ambassador or envoy, one who has the capacity
to think in a way so attuned to the mind of an
authority that he or she can embody his or her
interests and concerns. An ambassador and
envoy can negotiate on behalf of a person or
power. They can think with mind of the kings or
Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR
GABRIEL JEREMIAH
27
president they represent.
The original twelve apostles were those who had
been personally taught and trainedby Jesus.
Therefore, they could think like him. They could
think with the mind of Christ.
(I Cor. 2:16) “For who hath known the mind of the
Lord, that He may instruct him? But we have the
mind of Christ.
Every apostle called by Christ possessed his
image, mind and as well do what he do.
What are the functions of an Apostle?
The roles of an apostle include:
(a) An apostle is to have seen the mind and
heart of God in Jesus Christ so as to understand
the intention and history.
(b) An apostle is someone who has a grasp,
even if only partial of the big picture by Christ.
Therefore, they could think like him. They could
think with the mind of Christ.
(I Cor. 2:16) “For who have known the mind of the
Lord, that He may instruct him? But we have the
mind of Christ. Every apostle called by Christ
Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR
GABRIEL JEREMIAH
28
possessed His image, mind and as well do what
He does.
What is God doing in the world? Where is history
headed? How does God intend us to live? What
transcends my time and place in the world? What
is the greater meaning of existence?
(c) An apostle is a church strategic planner and
planter d) He appoints ministers to head a church.
In all, the function of an apostle is central for
Christians that without it as the priority and context
for all of the other functions, they will be at risk of
backfiring.
ii. Prophets :- Sometimes we think of prophets as
seer or fortune-tellers. Other times we think of
prophets as social critics who condemn the
injustices of society. Both understanding are
partially correct. The most basic definition of the
Greek word we translate “prophet” is “one who
speaks for a god and interprets the god’s will”.
Prophets speak the word of God or announce a
word or God’s message to His people. The
functions of aprophet include
Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR
GABRIEL JEREMIAH
29
(a) Application of apostolic understanding to the
situation at hand.
(b) They speak a word from God that honors
what God has done to bring us to where we are
and calls forth new possibilities to move us to a
new place.
(c)When we have become frozen in patterns and
habits that are merely repeat of the past, the
prophetic word unfreezes us so that we might
move again.
(d) We become stride, the prophetic word set us
free.
iii. Evangelists:- Our image of evangelists is
largely shaped by recent assumptions and
understanding, especially here in Africa. In our
mind, an evangelist is someone who hold
crusades and proclaim the gospel and invites
people to commit their lives to Jesus Christ. This
is not the New Testament understanding only one
person is specifically identified as an evangelist in
the New Testament. The second letter to Timothy
instructs Timothy to “do the work of an evangelist”
Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR
GABRIEL JEREMIAH
30
(2Timothy 4:5) However, the writer also instructs
Timothy to “convince, rebuke and encourage
with utmost patience in teaching”. (2Timothy
4:2). It is hard to tell from the reading 2Timothy
what the writer actually had in mind when
instructed Timothy to “do the work of an
evangelist”.
The book of Acts is more helpful. It identified Philip
specifically as an evangelist. Luke, the author of
the book of Acts, describing his journey when he
is accompanying the Apostle Paul. He writes:
“The next day we left (Tyre) and came to
Caesarea; and we went into the house of Philip
the evangelist, one of the seven and stayed with
him”(Acts21:8) . Philip is our sole Biblical example
of an evangelist. This is what we know from the
book of Acts about Philip: He was not Philip the
apostle mentioned in the gospel. (Only a very,
very few scholars suppose that the same person
could have been an apostle and a deacon). He
was one of the seven deacons chosen by first
Christian community to manage the distribution of
food to widows when a conflict arose because
Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR
GABRIEL JEREMIAH
31
Greek speaking members of the community
thought Hebrew widows were receiving
preferential treatment (Acts 6:1-7).
When the Jerusalem community was scattered
due to persecution, Philip moved to Samaritan
where he proclaimed the gospel, cast out
demons, and healed many Samaritans believed
and were baptized, including magician named
Simon.
It was apparently necessary, however for two
apostles – Peter and John to travel to Samaria to
lay hands on the newly baptized in order for them
to receive the Holy Spirit (Acts 8:14-17). So the
evangelist Philips work seemed to include
proclamation, healing, casting out demons
and baptizing.
Perhaps the most illuminating story about Philip
as an evangelist is the story of the Ethiopian
eunuch which seems especially told to illustrate
the work of an evangelist. Philip is told in a dream
to go to a certain place where he discovers an
eunuch, a court official from Ethiopia, reading the
Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR
GABRIEL JEREMIAH
32
prophet Isaiah. Philip used this opening to tell the
Ethiopian about Jesus and then baptized him.
(Acts 8:26-40).
As opposed to the contemporary focus on
preaching and proclamation to large crowds,
willcome Abraham, in his book, titled “the logic of
evangelism”, described the work of an evangelist
as the work of initiation. The evangelist guides
persons into the practices that both characterized
doing and living Christ life.
An evangelist shows persons practices the
Christian faith including being apart of the
Christian community, participating in spiritual
disciplines and the means of grace and living our
faith in our lives in the world. For some of us, our
parents were our primary evangelists, Sunday
school teachers and confirmation mentors often
serve the function of the evangelists.
iv. Pastors:-We have come to call persons who
lead congregation pastors ,we even call some
pastors the senior pastor. This is unfortunate
because it over emphasizes one function of
Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR
GABRIEL JEREMIAH
33
leadership the church needs out of proportion to
the others. The word “pastor” is based on the Latin
word for “shepherd”. “The Greek word translated
“Pastor” in Eph. 4:11 means “shepherd” and is
actually translated more often in English
translations of New Testament into the word
“shepherd” than “pastor”. The emphasis on
tending and care-giving.
The clearest description of a pastor – shepherd is
John’s description of Jesus, the Good shepherd,
in the gospel of John, Jesus says, “I am the good
shepherd. I know my own and my own know me,
just as the father knows me and I know the father
(John 10:14-15 Jesus says ; “The one who enters
by the gate the shepherd of the sheep hear his
voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads
them out”. (John10:3)
Jesus says: “I am the good shepherd. The good
shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.” (John
10:11)
Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR
GABRIEL JEREMIAH
34
The shepherd – pastor knows your name. He or
she knows what is happening to your life, your
struggles, your fears, your hopes and successes.
The shepherd – pastor spend time with you and
give himself for you. Pastoral careers is being
visited in the hospital when one is scared and
needy and being comforted in grief. A
pastorshepherd is one who focuses on the need
of the members of his flock and helps people
endure pain and get better.
v. Teachers: -Many of the functions we think of
as the work of the teachers within the church are
really the work of the evangelists – initiating
people into the kingdomlife. This example of the
contrast between the work of an evangelist and a
teacher might be helpful. It is part of the
evangelist’s work to guide and teach the people
how to read the bible as part of their Christian life.
It is part of the work of a teacher to tell people what
it says in the bible. In real life, the lines between all
of these roles and functions get blurred, but it is
good to have clarity about the people, processes
Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR
GABRIEL JEREMIAH
35
and practices we need in order to grow as people
of faith.
Teacher is a title used frequently for Jesus in the
four gospels. John 1:38 made it clear that the
Greek word we translate “teacher” is sometimes,
perhaps often used in the gospel as a
synonymous for “rabbi”.
It is this function that New Testament identifies
with role of the teacher in the early church. The
teacher communicates and interprets the
scripture and tradition meaning the writer of
Hebrews the concept of how Jesus obedience to
God achieved salvation for those who believe in
him. Then he scolds his readers because they lack
understanding of God’s word. The writer; about
this we have much to say that is hard to explain,
since you have become dull in understanding.
For though by this time you ought to be teachers,
you need some one to teach you again the basic
elements of the oracles of God, you need milk, not
solid food; for everyone who lives on milk, being
still an infant is unskilled in the word of
Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR
GABRIEL JEREMIAH
36
righteousness. But solid food is for the mature, for
those whose faculties have been trained by
practice to distinguish good from evil.
(Heb. 5:11-14)
Therefore, the work of teacher is to understand,
interpret and explain the biblical teachings.

CHAPTER FIVE PROFESSIONS AND THE
MARKET PLACE MINISTRY
Some high class Christian workers believed that
their duty is not to preach the word of God, since
they do not fall in the five fold ministry. Their own
is to go to work and come back with money and
finance the church, attend church activities and
other things that do concern the church. While
some believed that they must preach in the church
or else, they are out of the line. Some Christians
in the market place look at God’s word with
disdain, but when they come to a Christian
gathering they can worship God, they are not
Christians. The church pastors (some) keep
raising souls that are dependent on them. The
pastor is to equip the body of Christ (the church)
and release them for impartation into the market
place.
According to Jesus, he said, “whounto then shall I
liken men of this generation? And to what are they
Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR
GABRIEL JEREMIAH
38
like? They are like unto one sitting in the market
place and calling one another saying we
have piped unto you, and ye have not danced; we
have mourned to you and ye have not wept”.
(Luke 7:31-32).
The church does not need church inside the
church, as light is useless inside light.
There are souls outside looking for who will
harvest them for the master. Imagine. If every
Christian will accept this divine mandate and
share their faith with their co-workers and clients
or customers. The whole people would come to
know Christ.
I want to establish that no matter your profession,
you can still serve God well. I always told people
that my medical career is an avenue and great
asset to serve and propagate the gospel. Right
from when I was doing my internship in the
General hospital here, I preached and prayed for
patients. It was a privilege for me because no one
could stop ; not even patients because they need
me.
Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR
GABRIEL JEREMIAH
39
We shall look at some fields and how you can use
it to win souls for Christ by sharing your faith.
(1) IT manager (Information Technologists) or
specialist in computer – Do you know that you can
reach 1,000 souls a day with your computer? You
can actually touch souls more than your pastor on
the pulpit could do. In all your online work send
people on social media the gospel of Christ
instead of busy discussing and watching rubbish.
(2) Doctors – As a doctor your patients need
you and believe me,they would believe your report
than a pastor. Whatsoever you tell them they will
do. At that point, you are their God. They want to
hear from you either they will survive or not. Why
don’t you share God’s word with your patient,
encourage and pray for them. Treat their soul
even as you treat their body. If you treat only their
body, and not soul, then their bodies will one day
be destroyed and they loss both body and soul.
God will question you on the last day.
(3) Teacher – As a teacher, students believe
what you teach them than their parents and others
Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR
GABRIEL JEREMIAH
40
especially the children (primary and secondary).
Even as you teach them secular things, you can
still the gospel. Correct scripturally when they are
wrong. One of the best opportunities to shape the
life of people is in the hand of teachers. No
matter the subject you are teaching, it must not
necessarily be Christian religious knowledge that
you can now teach them the Bible; even Physics,
Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics etc.
I always taught my students about God’s word
most time when I look at their behavior in the
class, I preach to them. I could remember Bro
BriceTaiwo, he was a Mathematics teacher in the
same school where I worked. Sometimes, I looked
at him I say this is God agent. He usually preach
to them. He would jump from Maths to Bible and
the student would be carried away in the class
forgetting their main lesson. Imagine a Christian
going to a conference to speak as a professor but
carry the gospel, people would like to hear from
him.
Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR
GABRIEL JEREMIAH
41
(4) Nurse – The nurse, just as a doctor in the
health sector is very important. They care for
patient holistically for their needs and as well treat
them. They spend time all days with patients.
What if the nurse decides to share his/her
Christian faith with patients? I tell you, before
those patients will be discharged their souls would
already be in God’s hand.
As a nurse, you are very privileged to share the
gospel with your patient. Do not care only for their
physical needs but spiritual also. You are on duty
for Christ.
(5) Banker – Why must you be a banker
collecting and saving money but not saving the
lives of those of your clients? You cannot be
collecting money for the bank and God is looking
for people who will go to the bank and collect
souls for Him. As Christian banker, you can collect
souls for Christ. Talk to them.
(6) Pharmacist – Why are you busy prescribing
drugs and medications for your patients and not
also the scripture?
Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR
GABRIEL JEREMIAH
42
God kept you there not to prescribe medication
but prescribe Christ life to your patients. You must
tell them the scripture they will read to change
their situation and read with them. As you
prescribe and dispense drugs, do same with
God’s word.
(7) Engineer (mechanic) - Most Christian
mechanics only busy themselves servicing
engines for the owners, but forgetting that the
engine cannot drive itself. Why can’t you service
the life of the owner of the engine with God’s word
so that it would be complete? You should repair
their heart for God.
(8) Lawyer – Most of our Christian lawyers are
busy collecting bribes and making people that are
guilty go to jail. As a lawyer, your duty is to defend
the poor masses not to erode them in order to
make your pocket filled. As a lawyer, just like Paul
you must know the scripture and apply it while
judging, judge according to the scripture. Preach
and counsel the guilty with God’s word. Make
them regret and give them hope. God put you
Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR
GABRIEL JEREMIAH
43
there to defend the justice not to condemn them
for the sake of your pocket.
(9) Driver – You can share God’s word with
your passengers. Don’t only drive them to their
physical destinations but also divine destination.
You can still play gospel message even as you
drive, it can touch somebody’s life. Pray with
them. A pastor must not come to your vehicle to
pray while you are there. It is your core duty to
pray for your passengers.
Generally, our attitudes while we work should be
an act of worship to the Lord. Picture the Lord
doing your job with you because He is inside of
you. We also need to be sharing God’s love at
work by being nice, by going that extra mile. Our
emotional attitude should be one of love, grace
and long suffering with people putting up with
their inadequacies until they get free from the
bondage they are in and serve God like we do.
One gentle way to do market place ministry is by
how you talk to people and answer their
questions. A simple way to share Jesus when
Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR
GABRIEL JEREMIAH
44
someone asks you, how are you doing? Is to
respond by saying, “I am blessed and highly
favored”.
My fellow Christians, I want us to see Christianity
as our breathes. See the souls outside the way
God sees it. Until we see them same way with
God, it will be difficult to do God’s will.
Begging to exercise your authority as a Christian,
the same way Christ died for others, He died for
you and I . We possessed the anointing, it is in us.
What we need to do is to accept the mandate.
Today, hiding under the grace of my overall
spiritual father and mentor, JESUS, I decree that
the power to carry out this assignment is released
upon you in Jesus name, amen.
Note: You cannot be going to church every
Sunday and never share what you learnt with your
clients or customers and workers. “Any Christian
who does not share his/her faith with the public is
a disgrace to Christianity”.

CHAPTER SIX
DISCOVERING YOUR MINISTRY
Many christens today kept asking these significant
questions, what did God create’s me for? What
and how will I know what God is calling me for?
How will I discover my ministry? The above
questions are so essential, for every Christian has
something specifically called for by God. You can
discover your ministry through;
(a) Leaders/elders directives -
Personally, I came to know what God specifically
called me to do or my area of specialty in the
ministry when I was appointed as children Sunday
school co-coordinator in one of our local church
branch. It happened when I was a Bible Class
Study Secretary and a teacher of Adult Bible
Study in my local church. I have been teaching
there right from my year one in the University, one
day the elders called me and my friend, we were
both co-coordinating adult bible study. They said,
“We want any of you to go to the children
Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR
GABRIEL JEREMIAH
46
department and co-ordinate them there”. But my
friend resented and said “I cannot handle the
children”. The fact was that the church has
scrutinized every members ,but found both of us
worthy to go there. But when I looked at the
condition, I told myself, “let me try and see” and I
went to the department, though it wasn’t easy. But
I found joy in that place. The old teachers only
guided me for one week and the Holy Spirit began
to use me to raise godly children over there.
Samuel was guided by Eli as we know to discover
that God was calling him for a special purpose. He
never discovered it himself, but helped by an elder
(I Samuel3). I want to tell my fellow Christians to
avoid the habits of rejecting task in the church and
cultivate the spirit of acceptance.
(b) Revelation from the above which could be
a prophecy, dream, vision. I could remember a
brother in those days when I was in Nigeria
serving my call in the local church, the brother was
a band leader and had finished the University
waiting for NYSC but for two years his call up
letter was not given to him. He was the band
Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR
GABRIEL JEREMIAH
47
leader of the church qnd active in church
activities, but never knew he was missing one
thing “His ministry”. But one day God spoke to him
through a prophetess, who told him to go to
children department and just be making them
happy. The said person came to me and told me
everything the spirit of God told him and I
accepted him, given him chance. Believe me, few
months after he resumed his real ministry he was
called. There was also another brother; he was
like a biological brother to me. He told me certain
time that he saw a dream how God showed him
an hen incubating chicks and a voice told him to
take care of the children. That brother had a carry
over in the school and he couldn’t get his
certificate. But when he began to do his ministry
everything got solved. As I am writing this book
now, he is in abroad now. That is how far God can
take you to, if you kick off your ministry. Hear what
Paul said, “Neglect not the gift that is in thee,
which was given thee by prophecy, with laying of
the hands (I Timothy 4:14). Timothy received his
calling through prophecy. Paul was reminding him
Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR
GABRIEL JEREMIAH
48
to rekindle that ministry he received. I encourage
you to keep your light burning.
(c) Passion or What you like Doing– Not just
like doing but feel happy and contented when
doing or called to do.
The wise man said, “keep thy heart with all
diligence; for out of it are the issues of life”.
(Prov. 4:23) What you really have passion for may
be your ministry of calling. Your heart contained
the ability to motivation. I usually felt happy and
satisfied when able to teach the children in
Sunday school. I find myself happy when am
around them.
(d) Natural Capabilities or Strong Point–
What can you do easily? What when you do are
people always happy and get satisfied? Every
normal human beings has something he/she can
easily do without struggling with it like others.
In Exodus 35:30-end, when God asked the
children of Israel to build him an ark, he told
Moses a man, naturally equipped by him to help
actualizing the purpose of the building. Even
Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR
GABRIEL JEREMIAH
49
Jesus did not go to any school of theology but was
teaching theologians, even at a professorship
level. God naturally embedded him with such
ability. So what you can naturally do may be your
ministry.
(e) The Change you want to Effect-
According to the bible (1Samuel 17:26, 31), David
looked at the burden and endemic suffering of his
people and could not sleep. He needed to change
the history of his people. He emboldened himself
by the word of God in creation (Psalm 24:1, “The
earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof”. He
had determined to put a stop to defilement of his
people’s armies by the so called giant Goliath.
The action and part he played, took him to the
outset of his ministry. When I looked at ministries
everywhere, in all nooks and crannies of the earth,
they are interested in adults. The more the
ministry spreads, the more corruption the world
face. The church neglected the one important
ministry “children ministry” and have forgotten that
it is the foundation of our good society. So I
decided to stop the neglect of child in the world
Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR
GABRIEL JEREMIAH
50
plan of evangelistic effort by establishing
“Children Bible and Prayer Ministry International”
to help achieve sanity in our nations.
Today, many people have found their ministry
through it.
Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR
GABRIEL JEREMIAH
48
(f) Practical Experience–
Your practical experience can lead you to your
ministry. God saw how caring Amos was to sheep
and He said to himself “If this man could take good
care and being passionate and dedicated to the
job, he could also do same to my people. And
God called him and ordered him to go and
prophesy to his people. That was how Amos
ministry kicked off (Amos 7:1-15).
Like I told you before, my experience in teaching
was for adult before appointed by the elders to
assume the post of children Sunday school
coordinator. Probably, they must have seen my
caring for adult and got motivated to direct me to
the children.
Characteristics Of A Ministry Of The Gospel
Everything is known by their fruits. A female and
male human are distinct and identified based on
what they possessed. What makes you up is your
character. “It is said, you are addressed by the
way you dress”.
Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR
GABRIEL JEREMIAH
49
A minister of God is God’s servant by divine
mandate, called for a specific purpose. A minister
of God is a person who witness Christ to the
public in action and word.
Every ministry must be known with the following
qualities:
(a) Love for God and Man–
Without love you cannot serve God and his
people. Hear what Apostle Paul said, “And now
abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the
greatest of these is charity”. (I Cor. 13:3). Again
hear Jesus, “And thou shall love the Lord thy God
with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all
thy mind and with all thy strength; this is the first
commandment”. And the second is like this, thou
shall love thy neighbor as thyself. There is non
other commandment greater than these”. You can
see the imperative of love as described by our
Lord Jesus Christ. It simply means that without
love you cannot take the burden of others as
yours. It is only a heart that is saturated with love
for others that can solve and serve other people
needs. A minister must not be self centered.
Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR
GABRIEL JEREMIAH
50
(b) Faithfulness – Faithfulness denote
absolute seriousness and steady work with God.
A faithful Christian does not have negative
emotion in God’s service. He is always available
when called. He answers his call at all time,
irrespective of the circumstance whether rain or
sun. Jesus said, “I must work the works of Him
that sent me while it is day; the night cometh when
no man can work”. (John 9:4)
That is how the heart of every gospel minister
should be. Nehemiah served God faithfully (Neh.
7:2).Can you remember Abraham, the faithful
father? Today we can boldly proclaim the
blessings of Abraham. Can someone boldly
proclaim your blessings when you are gone? If no
, something is missing!
(c) Humbleness – Humility is the total
abstinence or void of self over estimation. The
wise man said, “A man’s pride shall bring him low;
but honour shall uphold the human in spirit”.
(Prov. 29:23) As a minister, you must pack your
pride and burn it. If you are boastful and arrogant
you cannot serve others. I want you to know that
Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR
GABRIEL JEREMIAH
51
a minister is a servant to God and his people. As
a minister, you must serve with all humility. When
you humble yourself (flesh), the spirit of God in
you will stand up and uplift you”. One who is lifted
himself need no one to lift him up, because he is
already up himself.”Serve God with your body,
lower for himself. If Christ was never humble, he
would not die for you.
(d) Teachable - Every minister must be subject
to God for corrections and direction. Allow God to
bend you to the way he wants for His own purpose
but not yours. You must learn from God. God is
your master, so you must allow him to teach you.
When God called Moses, He complained that he
cannot speak but hear what God told him, “Now
therefore go, and I will be with thy mouth, and
teach thee what thou shalt say”. So let God teach
you as he did to Moses.

CHAPTER SEVEN STRATEGIES FOR
MARKET PLACE MINISTRY
After discovering your ministry the next step is to
plan strategically how you would run your
Ministry. Hear what the scripture says, “Set up the
tabernacle according to the plans shown you on
the mountain” (Exodus 26:30).
When Jehu was anointed and empowered to
become a king, without wasting much time, he
sought for a medium to get rid of idol worship. He
believed that absolute cleaning of idol worship
would require firm steps. Jehu strategically
presents himself inwardly as an idol worshiper
and the worshipers of idols were very happy
seeing him as part of them. What did they do?
They actually wanted the king to legalize the idol
worship in the land and so they came out
massively to play and worship idol. But not
knowing that Jehu was a strategic planner who
sought to destroy and not to keep them. Jehu
seeing their
Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR
GABRIEL JEREMIAH
53
magnitude slain all of them and totally abolished
idol worshipping in his land (2 Kings 10:18 - 28).
What really does the word “strategy’ denote?
Strategy involves or has to do with setting goals,
determining actions to achieve the goals and
mobilizing resources’ to execute the actions. A
strategy will view the end result. As a market
place minister, you need to set adequate plan to
achieve your goals.
(2) Developing your Ministry Plans
There are many models for establishing a
strategic plan for your market place ministry. They
include; preparation, mission creation, examining
the landscape or area, set a plan and review
always.
(a) Preparation- Preparation starts from creating
a term and orienting them of your goal. The team
must be people you trust and hold on to. If you set
untrusted team, they will end up jeopardizing your
goals.
Your team or group must be able to look at the
following questions with you:

GABRIEL JEREMIAH
54
What are the current realities? How can income
be generated after my plan? Howdo I achieve end
result or success when put a plan into action or
work A trusted team can help you, work as co–
laborers and always give you feed back honestly,
help to assess the chosen environment and as
well offer viable suggestions and recommend
action. As a minister you are not a cyclopedia of
know ledge. So your success can be determined
by the kind of group you have.
(a) Mission-Mission Statements:
Every ministry must have a philosophy and the
philosophy must align with your ministry purpose
before coming up with the idea of having ministry,
you must have a model measure standard
toreach. Your mission statement should be able to
give an answer to the method of your ministry
using to impact the nation.
(b) Area of Landscape-It is very essential to
look at the landscape. The landscape
entails the current realities, the present
strength, weakness and factors that causes
threat to ministry in that particular

community. The people current and
outstanding needs must be discovered.
Your market ministry can be very effective if
the above suggestions are considered.
From my experience in cross cultural
evangelism I have discovered that it is not
just how powerful and anointed you are that
makes you successful but understanding
the need of the people you are about to talk
or share your faith with. Some people like
food too much; when there is food you can
capture them. Set in food first, if you have
and when they come satisfy their mind with
God’s word. Some people like watching and
show, just here I am. Set a projector outside
or television, people will come to watch as
they do share God’s word and capture their
mind. Where you do so, you will get their
heart; they will know that they did not come
there for television.
I watched a church that did evangelism in my
street. They first projected a movie in few minutes
crowed filled the venue to watch it but within some
minutes again, the people started preaching with

the power of God and they off the projector but the
people (villagers) have been carried away with the
gospel and could not leave there. Sometimes
when I go out for gospel outreach, I ensure I go
with some amount of money and as I go any area
I find beggars, I first share the money and as I am
sharing the money am also talking to them about
Jesus. From my practice, I found that they would
always pay attention to me because I have met
fully or partially their needs (physical needs). You
must know that the people of this world have
interest in physical things than spiritual things. So
to have most of them convinced you must device
your plan strategically.
(c) Develop a Plan– When determining needs, it
is entirely positive to see from most needs, then
your team or group can address. Offer a strategy
with your strategy planning called developing a
thematic goal. That is, determine a measureable
goal that addresses your most serious need and
plan to meet it. Continue to do elements of your
ministry program that work, but add or change
those elements that do not overuse existing

GABRIEL JEREMIAH
57
resources and time and address the most
important need.
(d) Need for Review and Reform your
Strategy– Let there be an evaluation of your
strategy. You must check and balance your
already done activities to know the ones that are
not or effective. This will enable you to add or
remove some activities to achieve accurate result
and success.
CHAPTER EIGHT ACHIEVING EFFECTIVE
RESULT IN MARKET PLACE MINISTRY
Evangelism for Christians is a must do. Every
Christian must share his/her faith.
A Christian who do not or not willing to share his/
her faith is a rebellious Christian and not worthy to
be called by that name. “Christianity” in its real and
scriptural perspective means “Christ in the flesh”
meaning, in all parts of your body both
physiological and anatomically you suppose to
carry him.
Jesus told his disciples, “follow me, and I will make
you fishers of men” (Matt. 4:19)
Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR
GABRIEL JEREMIAH
58
The implication is that if we are really following,
we’ll be fishing-soul-wining. Jesus last words
were, “go therefore and make disciples of all the
nations”. (Matt. 28:19).
If we must make disciples of all the nations, we
must conduct market place evangelism. Only
pastors and evangelists cannot fulfill the divine
mandate, even we must achieve God’s purpose
and desire concerning the nations. When God
says nations, God does not mean the church but
rather all over the streets and corners of this
world.
The Christians in the New Testament went
everywhere preaching the word of God.
“Therefore, they that scattered abroad went
everywhere preaching the word” (Acts 8:4)
For you to effectively affect the lives of the public
with God’s word, you must consider these:
(a) Evangelistic Burden for the Lost Sheep–
You must ask God to give you an evangelistic
burden for others. I said in the last chapter that if
you must be a Christian, you must consider it to
Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR
GABRIEL JEREMIAH
59
be a burden to preach and advancing God’s
kingdom. Pray and ask God to help you to see the
people of the public the way He (God) sees it and
to lay upon your heart, strength, soul and mind a
burden of evangelizing the poor masses. Also,
ask God to put upon your heart a handful of
people for whom you can earnestly pray.
Then pray over those names everyday. An old
song says, “Lord, lay some soul upon my heart
and love that soul through me; and may I humbly
do my part to win that soul to thee”.
(b) You Must live a Consistent Christian Life
Before Public– I want you to see yourself as
Christ. You are currently representing Christ until
he comes. Jesus said, “You are the light of the
world (people in the world). Let your light so shine
before men, that they may see your good works
and glorify your father in heaven”. (Matt. 5:14-15).
Listen to me Christians, we must do as we preach.
The public want to really see what you profess in
you. You cannot ask me to repent while you have
not. For gospel of Jesus can only get to all
Christians through if you live an exemplary life.
Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR
GABRIEL JEREMIAH
60
Once they see that what you are preaching, you
are not qualified, then they will not be willing to
accept it. We must live obedient lives of integrity
and authenticate faith. We must love when others
hate and forgive when others around us habour
grudges.
We must remain trusting when others panic, and
be honest when all around us are cooking the
books. Not that we are going to be perfect – only
Christ was sinless. But we must have a growing,
maturing Christian life that others recognize and
respect.
(c) Build Bridges to Others– When the Lord
shows you those needing Christ, seek to build a
relationship with them. When I discover a
particular child spiritual need ,and want him/her
to join my ministry so that I can impart him with
Christ, and knowing that I cannot get him/her on
my own I have to collect their parents phone
number and address them by making friend with
such family. The relationship between me and the
family would give the mandate and the parent
trust and allow me handle the child.
Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR
GABRIEL JEREMIAH
61
Even as I am writing this now, I have an
appointment with a family at 3:30pm in their house
to save that particular child. You must bring
yourself low to be able to get soul for Christ
because sometimes if you invite them they will not
come, so you need to go to them. Jesus said we
should take the gospel to the world not the world
coming to us.
Put down your pride and march on with Jesus.
Remember how Jesus went to the home of
Zaccheaus where many sinners had gathered.
Some Christians may wrongly interpret that God
said,” have nothing to do with sinners”.
But if that is the real meaning, who are we going
to preach the gospel to? Is it the believer? While
we must be careful not to place ourselves in an
environment where we’ll be pulled down, we must
be equally careful to cultivate friendships with
those needing Christ. Perhaps Christ has placed
you in your particular school or work place just to
reach those whom no one else can reach.
Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR
GABRIEL JEREMIAH
62
(d) Learn and Study the Gospel- Memorize
the following verses and practices saying them in
a mirror or to another Christian until you are
comfortable sharing them with someone needing
Christ. Romans 3:23; 6:23; 5:8; 10:9, 10, 13: John
5:1, 13.
(e) Watch for Opportunities to Share a Word
for Christ– Peter said: “sanctify the Lord God in
your hearts and always be ready to give a defense
to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope
that is in you” (I Peter 3:15)
(f) If the Right Opportunity does not Come
Naturally, Create One– Sometimes we wait too
long, looking for just the right time to invite
someone to church or to share with them the
message of the gospel. There often comes a point
when we must prayerfully introduce the subject
and do our best to impress someone with their
need for Christ.
Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR
GABRIEL JEREMIAH
63
(g) Leave the Result with God –
We are responsible for sharing the gospel but only
God can convert the soul. Having done your best
let Him do the rest. . We must allow the Holy Spirit
of God to do the conversion, but ensure we speak
the truth and hidden nothing.
(h) A Heart for God and Dynamic Follower of
Christ – “For even hereunto were ye called
because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us
an example that ye should follow his steps” (I
Peter 2:21)
Colossians 3:17) “And whatsoever ye do in word
or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus,
giving thanks to God and the father by him”. This
is where all ministries begins, whether you are
teaching Sunday school or leading the entire,
even market place evangelism organizer. In fact,
this is where our ministries should flow from – our
deep, sincere, committed heart for God.
(i) A Passion for God’s Word– A heart for
God and love for people set the stage for the
content of our evangelism (preaching or
Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR
GABRIEL JEREMIAH
64
teaching). The content needed to be solidly based
on biblical truth.
As Christians, it is our responsibility to dig in to
God’s word not just to preach or share our lessons
but to understand it fully and allow it to permeate
every part of our lives. As we do this, the element
of our preaching and teaching becomes based on
and saturated in the word.
(j) A Habit of Prayer– “I exhort therefore,
that first of all, supplication, intercessions and
giving of thanks be made for all men” (I Tim.
2:1). Oswald chambers , said “prayer doesn’t
equip us for greater works, prayer is the greater
work”. A great Christian or minister of the gospel
knows that it is the power of God that brings about
transformation, so a deep dependence on God, is
exhibited through the habit of praying is essential
for Christians or ministers of the gospel.
There was a time I was not seriously concerned
about prayer but I preached and do evangelism.
The first program I had in the public place, a
poster was done and pasted everywhere around
the country unfortunately, the next few days all the
Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR
GABRIEL JEREMIAH
65
posters disappeared and I was afflicted with an
unknown skin disease, which almost kill me, but
God helped me through the prayers of others. so
since then, I made it mandatory to pray every
three hours in a day. And before going with my
evangelical team we always pray and coming
back the same prayer.
I want you to know that wining a soul involves
prayers because the people you want to talk to or
had spoken to may be discouraged by the power
of the devil, so consistent prayer is pre-requisite
for winning a soul.

  • 6. Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR GABRIEL JEREMIAH V FOREWORD The book The Market Place Ministry is very exciting as well as informative. I am honored and blessed to see Dr Gabriel pen down some of the basic biblical teachings I have been living with through the year. The book seeks to explain the need for us to make our professions or gifts a platform for the spreading of the gospel. By his word light doesn’t need light, rather darkness needs light. The Church being the gathering together of the called out ones who share fellowship in the light should let their light shine wherever they are found. Just like you cannot light your light and hid it under a covering, likewise he advised the saints to let their light shine; that’s the Ministry of the Market Place. The calling of God upon our lives is an expression of his love hence God is expecting
  • 7. Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR GABRIEL JEREMIAH VI us to engage the power of darkness with the fire of light in all the various market place. In Mathew 5:16 , our Lord Jesus admonish to let our light shine before Men that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven”. From the above scripture, it becomes clear that we are called into duty and there should be no peace or space left for the “evil one and his cohorts. The master gave us all that he is and in order to accomplish this assignment, in Mathew 28:18-20 He gave us the assurance of his power, His sovereignty and above all His presence as we take the whole world in reconciliation. Market Place Ministry from the writer‘s view is God’s Master plan for all His saints on earth. He strategically designed it well to enable everyone function productively from their domain of influence without stress. His grace came upon the gifted to empower His saints to succeed in their calling. The market place is a battle ground; the redeemed

  • 13. Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR GABRIEL JEREMIAH xii INTRODUCTION Our world is filled with catastrophes and endemic diseases. The world is suffering from spiritual problem and it is only spiritual and not political that we can get solution. Our political elites cannot solve our problems but only Jesus can do it. Apostle Paul wrote to the Christians in Colossians, “In whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the father through Him” (Col. 3:17) Everything we do as Christians should stem from acts of worship. People in ministry heal the sick, cast out demons and spend countless sessions doing counseling for those confused or seeking direction. Also, they spend quality time for prayer meetings and various services. The pastors and other ministers in the church preach the gospel steadily to people and make sure that church conferences, activities and retreats is in order. We pray and fast in preparation for impartation, we seek God’s face,
  • 14. Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR GABRIEL JEREMIAH xiii kneeling to God for spiritual maturity. All these we do in the church but how many of you worship God in your job, places, and factories? How many of you discuss or share the good news about Jesus there? How many of you pastors equip the saints not to depend on you but sent out to share good news in their job places? Hear what, Jesus said, “What shall I liken the men of this generation; what are they like? They are like unto children sitting in the market place, and calling one to another and saying, we are piped unto you and ye have not danced; we have mourned to you, and ye have not wept” (Luke 7:31-32). Can you imagine little children in the market place, they don’t know road to their homes; all they would do is crying for help of direction. That is what Jesus said, that the people in your job places are like. That means they don’t know Christ, but no one seeks to show them the way of Christ. Christians today do not hold down secured work and even try to share their faith with others.
  • 15. Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR GABRIEL JEREMIAH xiv Listen, it is not all Christians that are called to be pastors, teachers, evangelists or prophets. Some are called to minister in the church. Christians are supposed to approach their clients and share their faith. Some Christian share their faith during the work and seeds of Christ in the people they meet the seeds they plants are invaluable and are more needed by those of us (pastors) who do the harvesting. Their value, like intercessors, will go unknown until we stand before the throne and receive our crown. While some Christians do share their faith at work. There are still another kind of Christians at place that go to their job to complete the task at hand, never even contemplating sharing their testimony or that they are working for the kingdom of God. They just want to be good at their jobs. They go in and out, getting the work done, so they can spend time golfing or with their family. They never even considered sharing their faith because it would be unheard of or they are afraid of being asked questions they don’t know the answer. Brethren, God wants you to do everything you do with spiritual excellence and physical excellences
  • 16. Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR GABRIEL JEREMIAH xv whether you are working out, cooking, dinner, packing boxes, treating patients, serving clients or customers, everything must be done to share the gospel either by your manner or by vocal sharing your faith. I want to tell you that if everyone took a deeper look into their lives and others, a lot could be told and people in the market place would come to accept Christ. Hear what Jesus said, “For whosoever gives you cup of water to drink in my name , because you belong to Christ, assuredly, I say to you, the will by no means lose this reward” (matt 9:41) No matter your profession or career, you are on duty for Jesus. You are a preacher for Jesus, not only your pastor in the church. I am very sure that God will use this book to open your eyes , so you could see what God sees for this people. Also , to accept the mandate of market place evangelism.
  • 17. Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR GABRIEL JEREMIAH 1 CHAPTER ONE THE CHRISTIAN LIFE You are a church member and attend church activities doesn’t make you a Christian. Christianity is Christ in your flesh. That is physiologically and anatomically you represent Christ. So Christianity is far beyond being member of a church, pastor, evangelist, bishop, reverend etc. What makes you a Christian is not what you called yourself or your church title but Christ inside of your flesh. A Christian is the one who show, witness Christ to others in truth and in spirit. Hear what Jesus said, “follow me and I will make you fishers of men” (Matt.11:19). ‘’Go therefore and make disciples of the nations” (Matt. 28:19). Every Christian must be involved in witnessing what they represent (Christ) either in word or attitude.
  • 18. Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR GABRIEL JEREMIAH 2 The Must Do For Christian Life Christianity is a “life” and must live according to a norm and prescription from God. For those of you that have purchased generator or any other equipment, you would have seen user’s manual. It is the manual that tells you about the “must do” for maintaining the life span and quality of the generator. These can be changing the oil, filling tanks with gasoline etc. These are not negotiable, so you must spend time to ask for it if you want it to last for you. The same principle is applicable to believers. As a Christian only follow the “must do” to enable God be glorified. The must do include: (a) You must worship God, not comfort - “Although the fig tree shall not blossom, neither shall fruits be in the vines; the labourers of the olive shall fail and the fields shall yield meat; the flock shall be cut off from the folds and there shall be no herd in the streets; yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will joy in the God of my salvation” (Habakkuk 3:17-18)
  • 19. Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR GABRIEL JEREMIAH 3 I always told my fellow believers that being a Christian doesn’t mean absolute void from challenges or suffering. As Christians, in certain phases of our lives we are being tested for our faith. I don’t know anyone who enjoys suffering, but I know many who have benefitted from the maturity that occur as a recompense of the challenge. Are you celebrating in the midst of your difficulties or do you seek comfort as a means of escape? Where suffering comes you must pass through, but not runaway from God who allowed it to come to fruition. Every suffering God allows on your way has a comfort at the end. But if you escape the suffering for comfort (temporary); then you will meet a lasting suffering. Christians must not runaway from God for the quest for comfort. (b) You must obey God, not appetites – Apostle Paul said, “Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So, run that ye may obtain and every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an
  • 20. Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR GABRIEL JEREMIAH 4 incorruptible. I therefore so run, not on uncertainty; so fight I, not as one that beateth to air but I keep under my body and bring it unto subjection lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway” (I Cor. 9:24-27) Our appetites are the passions that we have within our flesh, contrary to the spirit, craving and battling to be satisfied. If you give in even the slightest to these desires, the enemy can use that to launch an attack in yourself. At the same time, the same trivial act in obedience to God demands two main things. It demands courage to say No to self, No to appetites, No to lust of the flesh, No to what is easy and Yes to carrying the cross. It also demands faithfulness – the plodding endurance to God, to His call, and to that which He calls you to suffer only yielding to the cross. Can you obey God, not your appetites? Dr. Jerkins Keith in one of his visit to Africa here called stomach central Government . stomach can never get tired of receiving until it lands you into trouble. Stomach had killed many and led many out of their
  • 21. Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR GABRIEL JEREMIAH 5 anointing . I decree over you that is reading this book today, every program programmed through stomach to highjack your destiny be deprogrammed in Jesus name. (c) Serve God, not self - “Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here I am, send me” (Isaiah 6:8) The concept of becoming a “bond slave” in the scriptures means that we are the slaves and He is the master. That means that we must surrender completely without reservation. May we see the type of service as lowly and it is humility but it should also be seen as a privilege to serve Him. If you see serving God as a privilege, then no body will remind you to serve Him well. I remember what Pst. Tony Chuks Okorie always told us ‘’you don’t need your opinion in serving God’’. Meaning serve God the way He is directing you. Just obey Him and serve. (d) Believe God, not the deceiver- ”Ye are of your father, the devil and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murder from the beginning
  • 22. Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR GABRIEL JEREMIAH 6 and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own; for he is a liar and the father of it”. (John 8:44). Many believers now listen to the devil through their agents and are unable to recognize God’s voice. Most of them are looking for signs and wonders elsewhere and the devil uses such opportunity to cage them. As believers, sometimes we don’t want to believe the truth. When life and scripture collide, which one do we believe and trust? The deceiver wants us to believe his lie, will you believe God? The scripture tells us that without faith it is impossible to please God, but our nature is to move toward unbelief. Never forget that your adversary is the father of lies. He wants to destroy you, so he works to make you doubt the promises and to accuse the brethren. Do not allow nature to deny you God’s blessings. (e) Love God, not the world – (I John 2:15-17): What really is your affections objects? Power?
  • 23. Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR GABRIEL JEREMIAH 7 Hobbies? Recognition? When I first saw a fine car, I felt deeply it were mine, but I was reminded to be focused that mine will be bigger than that. That means that I have to wait for my own time and focus on my ministry. Brother, money, authority and recognition are real but the love of those things more than God is worldly. You must not make material things a subject of your affection instead, of God. Church Before the outset of the world’s foundation, God purposed to give us His only begotten son to wipe our sins away. In the old testaments, there were prophesies about the son of God and his mighty power. We were told of the saviour and the kingdom he would establish (church). In the New Testament, the scripture expatiates the birth, ministry, death, burial and resurrection of the saviour. What is the church? The word church describes the people. Church (Greek, ekklesia, from ek “out of; and klesia, “a calling”) is an assembly or gathering of people. The church is the called out people. People of the world. Church
  • 24. Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR GABRIEL JEREMIAH 8 can refer to the universal – all the called out, or it can mean the local congregation. “Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved” (Acts 2:4-5).The church contrary to the usual belief is not the building or assembly but the people. The church can be defined as the lost body of Christ that was redeemed. I want you to know that what connects us (Christians) together is not the building, but Christ. So your church is my church. We are members of the same church. One body with different parts. “There is one body and one spirit even as ye are called in one hope of your calling one Lord, one Father, one Baptism , one God and Father of all , who is above all and through all, and in you all” (Eph 4;4-6) . The kingdoms were single handedly created by God and made his son (Jesus Christ) king. but why are there many churches with different doctrines opposing the established doctrine by the king? Who divided the church of God? We need
  • 25. Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR GABRIEL JEREMIAH 9 to be careful, the church of God is one (the same doctrine). Just as the physical body has many parts (hands, arms, legs, feet, eye, nose, mouth, etc.) and each parts or members has its own place and duty. As the parts of our physical body must work together for us to function properly, so the members of the spiritual body of Christians to accomplish God’s work. CHAPTER TWO NATURE OF GOD’S KINGDOM/CHURCH Christ is the head of the body. “But I would have you know that the head of every man is Christ”, (I Cor. 11:3a). The church is the family of God who is the father .The kingdom of God is a spiritual kingdom ruled by Jesus Christ, the king, who is in heaven reigning. The church is the called out people of the world who become citizens of the kingdom when they obey the king’s instructions. The church is the body and faith in Jesus Christ are called sons of God. The church is the temple or dwelling place
  • 26. Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR GABRIEL JEREMIAH 10 of God. The church is a bride betrothed to her husband who is Christ. THE PLAN OF GOD FOR SALVATION The chief thing in evangelism is salvation. “To the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in heavenly places might be known by the church the manifold wisdom of God, according to the eternal purpose which he purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Eph. 3:1011). God planned the church before he established the world. In order to belong to a particular organization there are steps you must follow. You cannot just wake up and become a member but follow established rules. Likewise in God’s kingdom for you to be a citizen, you must follow certain steps. God being so kind demonstrated his plan for salvation through love. “For God so loved the world that he gave His only begotten son, that whoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life”. (John 3:16). God sent his son to the world (people) to be a perfect sacrifice for sin. Jesus willingly offered his body upon the cross as that sacrifice and the
  • 27. Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR GABRIEL JEREMIAH 11 blood he shed cleanses us all from our sins. “By these we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all” (Heb. 10:10); “But if we work in the light, as he is in the light, we fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his son cleanses us from all sins”. (I John 1:7) Man’s salvation was planned by God, fulfilled by Christ and revealed by the Holy Spirit. But man has a part in his salvation too. In order to receive eternal salvation, one must obey the gospel of Jesus Christ. “Though he were a son, yet learned obedience by the things which he suffered and being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him” (Heb. 5:8-9). STEPS OF SALVATION Evangelism without salvation of soul is incomplete. Just as I told you that salvation is the chief thing in evangelism. The ministers of the gospel must know how to lead a soul to Christ through initiation which is the major work of the
  • 28. Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR GABRIEL JEREMIAH 12 evangelist. The following are the procedures employed for salvation: (a) Hearing: So then faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the word of God” (Rom. 10:17). Before a man gets to believe he must have faith and faith can only come when one hears the gospel. That means the gospel must be preached to be heard. “How shall they call upon him of whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe him whom they have not heard and how can they hear without a preacher. (Rom 10:14) (b) Believe: You cannot follow who you do not believe or trust. So in order to come to God you must believe his word. “But without faith it is impossible to please God; for he that cometh must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him” (Heb. 11:6). c) Repent: Repentance is changing from old way of life to new way. “I tell you Nay; but except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish” (Luke 13:3). “And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men everywhere to
  • 29. Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR GABRIEL JEREMIAH 13 repent”. You can’t be saved without putting away sin. (d) Confession: Confession is simply witnessing Christ before the word. That means that you are firmly professing and attesting Christ (He came, died, buried and resurrected for my sake, Lord and personal saviour). “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shall be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation” (Rom. 10:9-10). “Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my father which is in heaven” (Matt. 10:32). (e) Baptism: Baptism is an initiation of man into the kingdom of God. The baptism (initiation) cleanses you from your Adamic nature and gives you a new nature in Christ. “He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned” (Mark 16:16). “Then Peter said unto them, repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the
  • 30. Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR GABRIEL JEREMIAH 14 remission of sins and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost” (Acts 2:38). Baptism is for the remission of past sins. If one sins after he has been baptized, what is necessary to receive forgiveness is repentance. Hear what the bible says “Repent therefore of this thy wickedness and pray God if perhaps the thought of thine heart may be forgiven thee” (Acts 8:22) (f) Faithfulness: In Agricultural science, the tools for farm practice need to be maintained for effective functioning and durability. Also, in Biology (Human Biology), for you to live long all the organs in the body must be maintained for proper functioning. If you must live long all the organs (body organs), must function effectively and effectiveness can only result from proper body maintenance, likewise, being born again is not enough without maintenance. “Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the devil shall cast some of you into prison that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation days;
  • 31. Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR GABRIEL JEREMIAH 15 be thou faithful unto death and I will give thee a crown of life” (Rev. 2:10) After one has obeyed by following the steps of repentance, faithfulness is necessary to receive the crown of life. No matter the gravity of challenges you must not be abdicted. Abraham was faithful and God counted unto his as righteousness. Are you faithful in God? I pray that God will help us to remain faithful in Jesus despite the circumstances that may surround us.
  • 32. Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR GABRIEL JEREMIAH 16 CHAPTER THREE THE MANDATE FOR MARKET PLACE MINISTRY Market place is any where you work or out side Christian gathering. Market place ministry or evangelism is the process of sharing one’s faith with co-workers, clients or customers. Jesus gave a mandate to his disciples saying, “But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. And as ye go, preach, saying, the kingdom of heaven is at hand. Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils; freely ye have received, freely ye give: (Matt. 10:6-8). The household of Israel are the people scattered all over the place, not only in the church. Jesus Christ commanded us to preach him to them anywhere we find ourselves. I want you to stop minimizing yourselves (the body of Christ), every Christian have one spiritual gift or the other. “But the manifestation of the
  • 33. Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR GABRIEL JEREMIAH 17 spirit is given to every man to profit withal. For to one is given by the spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same spirit; to another faith by the same spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same spirit; to another the working of working of miracles by the same spirit; to another prophecy; to another discerning of the spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues; but all these worketh that one and the self same spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will”. (I Cor. 12:7-11) Any Christian that has non of the above is not alive and must be resurrected. No matter where you find yourself, you must endeavor to share what you have received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace» (I Peter4:10 NIV) While some Christians tried to avoid the divine mandate, others hid themselves in the corner of the church to do this ministry. But look at Amos, he was neither a prophet nor a pastor but a herdsman, taking care of sheep and God asked him to go and prophesy. Amos became very
  • 34. Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR GABRIEL JEREMIAH 18 strong in the prophetic ministry just because he accepted the mandate on him. The ministry of Amos was not done in the corner; he took it out to those God sent him for. Amos at a point began to yield much impact that even the king became uncomfortable with Him. The king gave order that Amos should stop prophesying. Amos reminded the king that as He (king) knew, he was neither a prophet nor a son of a prophet but he became a prophet as chosen by God. (Amos 2:1-15): Who told you that you must preach only in the church or you must be a preacher on the pulpit (all preachers preach only on the pulpit) or you must be an evangelist before you can preach the gospel? CHAPTER FOUR DIFFERENT CALLINGS In contrast to some people’s conclusion about callings that there are full and part time services or calling (God called some to serve him full time and some part time), for me all Christians are
  • 35. Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR GABRIEL JEREMIAH 19 called to serve God full time. There is nothing like part time service, the notion of part time ministers or Christians is a misconception. I want to ask you, is there any part of your body that is working part time? Is your heart not beating full time? Any Christian who professed to be a part time Christian is completely unserious and a full time sinner. The truth is always bitter, but believe me or not, I must say this, every Christian is called full time and should work full time. The only thing any one could say is that they are called on divers platforms. Your career is an avenue to share your faith. The era of one great man or woman of God is caput . Jesus died for all of us and sent all of us the Holy spirit. He didn’t die only for those people you are ministering yourself for. The same God that died for those greqt men of God died for you too. “But the Lord said unto him, “For he is a chosen vessel unto me, to bear my name before the gentiles and kingdom and the children of Israel” (Acts 9:15), Acts 13:2 “As they ministered unto the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Ghost said, separate me
  • 36. Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR GABRIEL JEREMIAH 20 Barnabas and Saul for the work wherein unto I have called them”. The ministry work is not for only pastors, teachers, every elder, prophets but for every body. The high time we did accept divine responsibility the better for our world. (a) The Five Fold or Key Ministry When Christians ask about calling or vocation it is usual means, “Is God calling me for a particular job, profession or type of work? The reason for this question is so significant because the work we do is important;it makes sense to ask what work God wants us to do. In the Bible, God does called people to particular work, and gives all people various kinds of guidance for their work. Although scripture seldom uses the word” call” to describe God’s guidance to jobs, occupations or tasks, these occupations in the Bible do correspond to vocational ”calling”. In the Bible, the concept of calling goes deeper than anyone aspect of life, such as work. God calls people to become united with Him in every aspect of life. But this can only happen if we respond to Christ’s call to follow Him.
  • 37. Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR GABRIEL JEREMIAH 21 There are five types of calling according to the scripture with their various functions. “Accordingly he has chosen us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without “blame in love” (Eph. 1:4) Ephesians 4:11 “And He gave the Apostles, the Prophets, the Evangelists, the Shepherds and Teachers”. i. Apostles: - The word “apostle” was originally a secular word in Greek society that means an ambassador or envoy, one who has the capacity to think in a way so attuned to the mind of an authority that he or she can embody his or her interests and concerns. An ambassador and envoy can negotiate on behalf of a person or power. They can think with mind of the kings or
  • 38. Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR GABRIEL JEREMIAH 27 president they represent. The original twelve apostles were those who had been personally taught and trainedby Jesus. Therefore, they could think like him. They could think with the mind of Christ. (I Cor. 2:16) “For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that He may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ. Every apostle called by Christ possessed his image, mind and as well do what he do. What are the functions of an Apostle? The roles of an apostle include: (a) An apostle is to have seen the mind and heart of God in Jesus Christ so as to understand the intention and history. (b) An apostle is someone who has a grasp, even if only partial of the big picture by Christ. Therefore, they could think like him. They could think with the mind of Christ. (I Cor. 2:16) “For who have known the mind of the Lord, that He may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ. Every apostle called by Christ
  • 39. Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR GABRIEL JEREMIAH 28 possessed His image, mind and as well do what He does. What is God doing in the world? Where is history headed? How does God intend us to live? What transcends my time and place in the world? What is the greater meaning of existence? (c) An apostle is a church strategic planner and planter d) He appoints ministers to head a church. In all, the function of an apostle is central for Christians that without it as the priority and context for all of the other functions, they will be at risk of backfiring. ii. Prophets :- Sometimes we think of prophets as seer or fortune-tellers. Other times we think of prophets as social critics who condemn the injustices of society. Both understanding are partially correct. The most basic definition of the Greek word we translate “prophet” is “one who speaks for a god and interprets the god’s will”. Prophets speak the word of God or announce a word or God’s message to His people. The functions of aprophet include
  • 40. Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR GABRIEL JEREMIAH 29 (a) Application of apostolic understanding to the situation at hand. (b) They speak a word from God that honors what God has done to bring us to where we are and calls forth new possibilities to move us to a new place. (c)When we have become frozen in patterns and habits that are merely repeat of the past, the prophetic word unfreezes us so that we might move again. (d) We become stride, the prophetic word set us free. iii. Evangelists:- Our image of evangelists is largely shaped by recent assumptions and understanding, especially here in Africa. In our mind, an evangelist is someone who hold crusades and proclaim the gospel and invites people to commit their lives to Jesus Christ. This is not the New Testament understanding only one person is specifically identified as an evangelist in the New Testament. The second letter to Timothy instructs Timothy to “do the work of an evangelist”
  • 41. Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR GABRIEL JEREMIAH 30 (2Timothy 4:5) However, the writer also instructs Timothy to “convince, rebuke and encourage with utmost patience in teaching”. (2Timothy 4:2). It is hard to tell from the reading 2Timothy what the writer actually had in mind when instructed Timothy to “do the work of an evangelist”. The book of Acts is more helpful. It identified Philip specifically as an evangelist. Luke, the author of the book of Acts, describing his journey when he is accompanying the Apostle Paul. He writes: “The next day we left (Tyre) and came to Caesarea; and we went into the house of Philip the evangelist, one of the seven and stayed with him”(Acts21:8) . Philip is our sole Biblical example of an evangelist. This is what we know from the book of Acts about Philip: He was not Philip the apostle mentioned in the gospel. (Only a very, very few scholars suppose that the same person could have been an apostle and a deacon). He was one of the seven deacons chosen by first Christian community to manage the distribution of food to widows when a conflict arose because
  • 42. Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR GABRIEL JEREMIAH 31 Greek speaking members of the community thought Hebrew widows were receiving preferential treatment (Acts 6:1-7). When the Jerusalem community was scattered due to persecution, Philip moved to Samaritan where he proclaimed the gospel, cast out demons, and healed many Samaritans believed and were baptized, including magician named Simon. It was apparently necessary, however for two apostles – Peter and John to travel to Samaria to lay hands on the newly baptized in order for them to receive the Holy Spirit (Acts 8:14-17). So the evangelist Philips work seemed to include proclamation, healing, casting out demons and baptizing. Perhaps the most illuminating story about Philip as an evangelist is the story of the Ethiopian eunuch which seems especially told to illustrate the work of an evangelist. Philip is told in a dream to go to a certain place where he discovers an eunuch, a court official from Ethiopia, reading the
  • 43. Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR GABRIEL JEREMIAH 32 prophet Isaiah. Philip used this opening to tell the Ethiopian about Jesus and then baptized him. (Acts 8:26-40). As opposed to the contemporary focus on preaching and proclamation to large crowds, willcome Abraham, in his book, titled “the logic of evangelism”, described the work of an evangelist as the work of initiation. The evangelist guides persons into the practices that both characterized doing and living Christ life. An evangelist shows persons practices the Christian faith including being apart of the Christian community, participating in spiritual disciplines and the means of grace and living our faith in our lives in the world. For some of us, our parents were our primary evangelists, Sunday school teachers and confirmation mentors often serve the function of the evangelists. iv. Pastors:-We have come to call persons who lead congregation pastors ,we even call some pastors the senior pastor. This is unfortunate because it over emphasizes one function of
  • 44. Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR GABRIEL JEREMIAH 33 leadership the church needs out of proportion to the others. The word “pastor” is based on the Latin word for “shepherd”. “The Greek word translated “Pastor” in Eph. 4:11 means “shepherd” and is actually translated more often in English translations of New Testament into the word “shepherd” than “pastor”. The emphasis on tending and care-giving. The clearest description of a pastor – shepherd is John’s description of Jesus, the Good shepherd, in the gospel of John, Jesus says, “I am the good shepherd. I know my own and my own know me, just as the father knows me and I know the father (John 10:14-15 Jesus says ; “The one who enters by the gate the shepherd of the sheep hear his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out”. (John10:3) Jesus says: “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.” (John 10:11)
  • 45. Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR GABRIEL JEREMIAH 34 The shepherd – pastor knows your name. He or she knows what is happening to your life, your struggles, your fears, your hopes and successes. The shepherd – pastor spend time with you and give himself for you. Pastoral careers is being visited in the hospital when one is scared and needy and being comforted in grief. A pastorshepherd is one who focuses on the need of the members of his flock and helps people endure pain and get better. v. Teachers: -Many of the functions we think of as the work of the teachers within the church are really the work of the evangelists – initiating people into the kingdomlife. This example of the contrast between the work of an evangelist and a teacher might be helpful. It is part of the evangelist’s work to guide and teach the people how to read the bible as part of their Christian life. It is part of the work of a teacher to tell people what it says in the bible. In real life, the lines between all of these roles and functions get blurred, but it is good to have clarity about the people, processes
  • 46. Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR GABRIEL JEREMIAH 35 and practices we need in order to grow as people of faith. Teacher is a title used frequently for Jesus in the four gospels. John 1:38 made it clear that the Greek word we translate “teacher” is sometimes, perhaps often used in the gospel as a synonymous for “rabbi”. It is this function that New Testament identifies with role of the teacher in the early church. The teacher communicates and interprets the scripture and tradition meaning the writer of Hebrews the concept of how Jesus obedience to God achieved salvation for those who believe in him. Then he scolds his readers because they lack understanding of God’s word. The writer; about this we have much to say that is hard to explain, since you have become dull in understanding. For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need some one to teach you again the basic elements of the oracles of God, you need milk, not solid food; for everyone who lives on milk, being still an infant is unskilled in the word of
  • 47. Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR GABRIEL JEREMIAH 36 righteousness. But solid food is for the mature, for those whose faculties have been trained by practice to distinguish good from evil. (Heb. 5:11-14) Therefore, the work of teacher is to understand, interpret and explain the biblical teachings.
  • 48. Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR GABRIEL JEREMIAH 37 CHAPTER FIVE PROFESSIONS AND THE MARKET PLACE MINISTRY Some high class Christian workers believed that their duty is not to preach the word of God, since they do not fall in the five fold ministry. Their own is to go to work and come back with money and finance the church, attend church activities and other things that do concern the church. While some believed that they must preach in the church or else, they are out of the line. Some Christians in the market place look at God’s word with disdain, but when they come to a Christian gathering they can worship God, they are not Christians. The church pastors (some) keep raising souls that are dependent on them. The pastor is to equip the body of Christ (the church) and release them for impartation into the market place. According to Jesus, he said, “whounto then shall I liken men of this generation? And to what are they
  • 49. Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR GABRIEL JEREMIAH 38 like? They are like unto one sitting in the market place and calling one another saying we have piped unto you, and ye have not danced; we have mourned to you and ye have not wept”. (Luke 7:31-32). The church does not need church inside the church, as light is useless inside light. There are souls outside looking for who will harvest them for the master. Imagine. If every Christian will accept this divine mandate and share their faith with their co-workers and clients or customers. The whole people would come to know Christ. I want to establish that no matter your profession, you can still serve God well. I always told people that my medical career is an avenue and great asset to serve and propagate the gospel. Right from when I was doing my internship in the General hospital here, I preached and prayed for patients. It was a privilege for me because no one could stop ; not even patients because they need me.
  • 50. Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR GABRIEL JEREMIAH 39 We shall look at some fields and how you can use it to win souls for Christ by sharing your faith. (1) IT manager (Information Technologists) or specialist in computer – Do you know that you can reach 1,000 souls a day with your computer? You can actually touch souls more than your pastor on the pulpit could do. In all your online work send people on social media the gospel of Christ instead of busy discussing and watching rubbish. (2) Doctors – As a doctor your patients need you and believe me,they would believe your report than a pastor. Whatsoever you tell them they will do. At that point, you are their God. They want to hear from you either they will survive or not. Why don’t you share God’s word with your patient, encourage and pray for them. Treat their soul even as you treat their body. If you treat only their body, and not soul, then their bodies will one day be destroyed and they loss both body and soul. God will question you on the last day. (3) Teacher – As a teacher, students believe what you teach them than their parents and others
  • 51. Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR GABRIEL JEREMIAH 40 especially the children (primary and secondary). Even as you teach them secular things, you can still the gospel. Correct scripturally when they are wrong. One of the best opportunities to shape the life of people is in the hand of teachers. No matter the subject you are teaching, it must not necessarily be Christian religious knowledge that you can now teach them the Bible; even Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics etc. I always taught my students about God’s word most time when I look at their behavior in the class, I preach to them. I could remember Bro BriceTaiwo, he was a Mathematics teacher in the same school where I worked. Sometimes, I looked at him I say this is God agent. He usually preach to them. He would jump from Maths to Bible and the student would be carried away in the class forgetting their main lesson. Imagine a Christian going to a conference to speak as a professor but carry the gospel, people would like to hear from him.
  • 52. Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR GABRIEL JEREMIAH 41 (4) Nurse – The nurse, just as a doctor in the health sector is very important. They care for patient holistically for their needs and as well treat them. They spend time all days with patients. What if the nurse decides to share his/her Christian faith with patients? I tell you, before those patients will be discharged their souls would already be in God’s hand. As a nurse, you are very privileged to share the gospel with your patient. Do not care only for their physical needs but spiritual also. You are on duty for Christ. (5) Banker – Why must you be a banker collecting and saving money but not saving the lives of those of your clients? You cannot be collecting money for the bank and God is looking for people who will go to the bank and collect souls for Him. As Christian banker, you can collect souls for Christ. Talk to them. (6) Pharmacist – Why are you busy prescribing drugs and medications for your patients and not also the scripture?
  • 53. Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR GABRIEL JEREMIAH 42 God kept you there not to prescribe medication but prescribe Christ life to your patients. You must tell them the scripture they will read to change their situation and read with them. As you prescribe and dispense drugs, do same with God’s word. (7) Engineer (mechanic) - Most Christian mechanics only busy themselves servicing engines for the owners, but forgetting that the engine cannot drive itself. Why can’t you service the life of the owner of the engine with God’s word so that it would be complete? You should repair their heart for God. (8) Lawyer – Most of our Christian lawyers are busy collecting bribes and making people that are guilty go to jail. As a lawyer, your duty is to defend the poor masses not to erode them in order to make your pocket filled. As a lawyer, just like Paul you must know the scripture and apply it while judging, judge according to the scripture. Preach and counsel the guilty with God’s word. Make them regret and give them hope. God put you
  • 54. Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR GABRIEL JEREMIAH 43 there to defend the justice not to condemn them for the sake of your pocket. (9) Driver – You can share God’s word with your passengers. Don’t only drive them to their physical destinations but also divine destination. You can still play gospel message even as you drive, it can touch somebody’s life. Pray with them. A pastor must not come to your vehicle to pray while you are there. It is your core duty to pray for your passengers. Generally, our attitudes while we work should be an act of worship to the Lord. Picture the Lord doing your job with you because He is inside of you. We also need to be sharing God’s love at work by being nice, by going that extra mile. Our emotional attitude should be one of love, grace and long suffering with people putting up with their inadequacies until they get free from the bondage they are in and serve God like we do. One gentle way to do market place ministry is by how you talk to people and answer their questions. A simple way to share Jesus when
  • 55. Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR GABRIEL JEREMIAH 44 someone asks you, how are you doing? Is to respond by saying, “I am blessed and highly favored”. My fellow Christians, I want us to see Christianity as our breathes. See the souls outside the way God sees it. Until we see them same way with God, it will be difficult to do God’s will. Begging to exercise your authority as a Christian, the same way Christ died for others, He died for you and I . We possessed the anointing, it is in us. What we need to do is to accept the mandate. Today, hiding under the grace of my overall spiritual father and mentor, JESUS, I decree that the power to carry out this assignment is released upon you in Jesus name, amen. Note: You cannot be going to church every Sunday and never share what you learnt with your clients or customers and workers. “Any Christian who does not share his/her faith with the public is a disgrace to Christianity”.
  • 56. Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR GABRIEL JEREMIAH 45 CHAPTER SIX DISCOVERING YOUR MINISTRY Many christens today kept asking these significant questions, what did God create’s me for? What and how will I know what God is calling me for? How will I discover my ministry? The above questions are so essential, for every Christian has something specifically called for by God. You can discover your ministry through; (a) Leaders/elders directives - Personally, I came to know what God specifically called me to do or my area of specialty in the ministry when I was appointed as children Sunday school co-coordinator in one of our local church branch. It happened when I was a Bible Class Study Secretary and a teacher of Adult Bible Study in my local church. I have been teaching there right from my year one in the University, one day the elders called me and my friend, we were both co-coordinating adult bible study. They said, “We want any of you to go to the children
  • 57. Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR GABRIEL JEREMIAH 46 department and co-ordinate them there”. But my friend resented and said “I cannot handle the children”. The fact was that the church has scrutinized every members ,but found both of us worthy to go there. But when I looked at the condition, I told myself, “let me try and see” and I went to the department, though it wasn’t easy. But I found joy in that place. The old teachers only guided me for one week and the Holy Spirit began to use me to raise godly children over there. Samuel was guided by Eli as we know to discover that God was calling him for a special purpose. He never discovered it himself, but helped by an elder (I Samuel3). I want to tell my fellow Christians to avoid the habits of rejecting task in the church and cultivate the spirit of acceptance. (b) Revelation from the above which could be a prophecy, dream, vision. I could remember a brother in those days when I was in Nigeria serving my call in the local church, the brother was a band leader and had finished the University waiting for NYSC but for two years his call up letter was not given to him. He was the band
  • 58. Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR GABRIEL JEREMIAH 47 leader of the church qnd active in church activities, but never knew he was missing one thing “His ministry”. But one day God spoke to him through a prophetess, who told him to go to children department and just be making them happy. The said person came to me and told me everything the spirit of God told him and I accepted him, given him chance. Believe me, few months after he resumed his real ministry he was called. There was also another brother; he was like a biological brother to me. He told me certain time that he saw a dream how God showed him an hen incubating chicks and a voice told him to take care of the children. That brother had a carry over in the school and he couldn’t get his certificate. But when he began to do his ministry everything got solved. As I am writing this book now, he is in abroad now. That is how far God can take you to, if you kick off your ministry. Hear what Paul said, “Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, with laying of the hands (I Timothy 4:14). Timothy received his calling through prophecy. Paul was reminding him
  • 59. Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR GABRIEL JEREMIAH 48 to rekindle that ministry he received. I encourage you to keep your light burning. (c) Passion or What you like Doing– Not just like doing but feel happy and contented when doing or called to do. The wise man said, “keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life”. (Prov. 4:23) What you really have passion for may be your ministry of calling. Your heart contained the ability to motivation. I usually felt happy and satisfied when able to teach the children in Sunday school. I find myself happy when am around them. (d) Natural Capabilities or Strong Point– What can you do easily? What when you do are people always happy and get satisfied? Every normal human beings has something he/she can easily do without struggling with it like others. In Exodus 35:30-end, when God asked the children of Israel to build him an ark, he told Moses a man, naturally equipped by him to help actualizing the purpose of the building. Even
  • 60. Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR GABRIEL JEREMIAH 49 Jesus did not go to any school of theology but was teaching theologians, even at a professorship level. God naturally embedded him with such ability. So what you can naturally do may be your ministry. (e) The Change you want to Effect- According to the bible (1Samuel 17:26, 31), David looked at the burden and endemic suffering of his people and could not sleep. He needed to change the history of his people. He emboldened himself by the word of God in creation (Psalm 24:1, “The earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof”. He had determined to put a stop to defilement of his people’s armies by the so called giant Goliath. The action and part he played, took him to the outset of his ministry. When I looked at ministries everywhere, in all nooks and crannies of the earth, they are interested in adults. The more the ministry spreads, the more corruption the world face. The church neglected the one important ministry “children ministry” and have forgotten that it is the foundation of our good society. So I decided to stop the neglect of child in the world
  • 61. Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR GABRIEL JEREMIAH 50 plan of evangelistic effort by establishing “Children Bible and Prayer Ministry International” to help achieve sanity in our nations. Today, many people have found their ministry through it.
  • 62. Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR GABRIEL JEREMIAH 48 (f) Practical Experience– Your practical experience can lead you to your ministry. God saw how caring Amos was to sheep and He said to himself “If this man could take good care and being passionate and dedicated to the job, he could also do same to my people. And God called him and ordered him to go and prophesy to his people. That was how Amos ministry kicked off (Amos 7:1-15). Like I told you before, my experience in teaching was for adult before appointed by the elders to assume the post of children Sunday school coordinator. Probably, they must have seen my caring for adult and got motivated to direct me to the children. Characteristics Of A Ministry Of The Gospel Everything is known by their fruits. A female and male human are distinct and identified based on what they possessed. What makes you up is your character. “It is said, you are addressed by the way you dress”.
  • 63. Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR GABRIEL JEREMIAH 49 A minister of God is God’s servant by divine mandate, called for a specific purpose. A minister of God is a person who witness Christ to the public in action and word. Every ministry must be known with the following qualities: (a) Love for God and Man– Without love you cannot serve God and his people. Hear what Apostle Paul said, “And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity”. (I Cor. 13:3). Again hear Jesus, “And thou shall love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind and with all thy strength; this is the first commandment”. And the second is like this, thou shall love thy neighbor as thyself. There is non other commandment greater than these”. You can see the imperative of love as described by our Lord Jesus Christ. It simply means that without love you cannot take the burden of others as yours. It is only a heart that is saturated with love for others that can solve and serve other people needs. A minister must not be self centered.
  • 64. Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR GABRIEL JEREMIAH 50 (b) Faithfulness – Faithfulness denote absolute seriousness and steady work with God. A faithful Christian does not have negative emotion in God’s service. He is always available when called. He answers his call at all time, irrespective of the circumstance whether rain or sun. Jesus said, “I must work the works of Him that sent me while it is day; the night cometh when no man can work”. (John 9:4) That is how the heart of every gospel minister should be. Nehemiah served God faithfully (Neh. 7:2).Can you remember Abraham, the faithful father? Today we can boldly proclaim the blessings of Abraham. Can someone boldly proclaim your blessings when you are gone? If no , something is missing! (c) Humbleness – Humility is the total abstinence or void of self over estimation. The wise man said, “A man’s pride shall bring him low; but honour shall uphold the human in spirit”. (Prov. 29:23) As a minister, you must pack your pride and burn it. If you are boastful and arrogant you cannot serve others. I want you to know that
  • 65. Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR GABRIEL JEREMIAH 51 a minister is a servant to God and his people. As a minister, you must serve with all humility. When you humble yourself (flesh), the spirit of God in you will stand up and uplift you”. One who is lifted himself need no one to lift him up, because he is already up himself.”Serve God with your body, lower for himself. If Christ was never humble, he would not die for you. (d) Teachable - Every minister must be subject to God for corrections and direction. Allow God to bend you to the way he wants for His own purpose but not yours. You must learn from God. God is your master, so you must allow him to teach you. When God called Moses, He complained that he cannot speak but hear what God told him, “Now therefore go, and I will be with thy mouth, and teach thee what thou shalt say”. So let God teach you as he did to Moses.
  • 66. Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR GABRIEL JEREMIAH 52 CHAPTER SEVEN STRATEGIES FOR MARKET PLACE MINISTRY After discovering your ministry the next step is to plan strategically how you would run your Ministry. Hear what the scripture says, “Set up the tabernacle according to the plans shown you on the mountain” (Exodus 26:30). When Jehu was anointed and empowered to become a king, without wasting much time, he sought for a medium to get rid of idol worship. He believed that absolute cleaning of idol worship would require firm steps. Jehu strategically presents himself inwardly as an idol worshiper and the worshipers of idols were very happy seeing him as part of them. What did they do? They actually wanted the king to legalize the idol worship in the land and so they came out massively to play and worship idol. But not knowing that Jehu was a strategic planner who sought to destroy and not to keep them. Jehu seeing their
  • 67. Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR GABRIEL JEREMIAH 53 magnitude slain all of them and totally abolished idol worshipping in his land (2 Kings 10:18 - 28). What really does the word “strategy’ denote? Strategy involves or has to do with setting goals, determining actions to achieve the goals and mobilizing resources’ to execute the actions. A strategy will view the end result. As a market place minister, you need to set adequate plan to achieve your goals. (2) Developing your Ministry Plans There are many models for establishing a strategic plan for your market place ministry. They include; preparation, mission creation, examining the landscape or area, set a plan and review always. (a) Preparation- Preparation starts from creating a term and orienting them of your goal. The team must be people you trust and hold on to. If you set untrusted team, they will end up jeopardizing your goals. Your team or group must be able to look at the following questions with you:
  • 68. Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR GABRIEL JEREMIAH 54 What are the current realities? How can income be generated after my plan? Howdo I achieve end result or success when put a plan into action or work A trusted team can help you, work as co– laborers and always give you feed back honestly, help to assess the chosen environment and as well offer viable suggestions and recommend action. As a minister you are not a cyclopedia of know ledge. So your success can be determined by the kind of group you have. (a) Mission-Mission Statements: Every ministry must have a philosophy and the philosophy must align with your ministry purpose before coming up with the idea of having ministry, you must have a model measure standard toreach. Your mission statement should be able to give an answer to the method of your ministry using to impact the nation. (b) Area of Landscape-It is very essential to look at the landscape. The landscape entails the current realities, the present strength, weakness and factors that causes threat to ministry in that particular
  • 69. Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR GABRIEL JEREMIAH 55 community. The people current and outstanding needs must be discovered. Your market ministry can be very effective if the above suggestions are considered. From my experience in cross cultural evangelism I have discovered that it is not just how powerful and anointed you are that makes you successful but understanding the need of the people you are about to talk or share your faith with. Some people like food too much; when there is food you can capture them. Set in food first, if you have and when they come satisfy their mind with God’s word. Some people like watching and show, just here I am. Set a projector outside or television, people will come to watch as they do share God’s word and capture their mind. Where you do so, you will get their heart; they will know that they did not come there for television. I watched a church that did evangelism in my street. They first projected a movie in few minutes crowed filled the venue to watch it but within some minutes again, the people started preaching with
  • 70. Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR GABRIEL JEREMIAH 56 the power of God and they off the projector but the people (villagers) have been carried away with the gospel and could not leave there. Sometimes when I go out for gospel outreach, I ensure I go with some amount of money and as I go any area I find beggars, I first share the money and as I am sharing the money am also talking to them about Jesus. From my practice, I found that they would always pay attention to me because I have met fully or partially their needs (physical needs). You must know that the people of this world have interest in physical things than spiritual things. So to have most of them convinced you must device your plan strategically. (c) Develop a Plan– When determining needs, it is entirely positive to see from most needs, then your team or group can address. Offer a strategy with your strategy planning called developing a thematic goal. That is, determine a measureable goal that addresses your most serious need and plan to meet it. Continue to do elements of your ministry program that work, but add or change those elements that do not overuse existing

(d) Need for Review and Reform your Strategy– Let there be an evaluation of your strategy. You must check and balance your already done activities to know the ones that are not or effective. This will enable you to add or remove some activities to achieve accurate result and success. CHAPTER EIGHT ACHIEVING EFFECTIVE RESULT IN MARKET PLACE MINISTRY Evangelism for Christians is a must do. Every Christian must share his/her faith. A Christian who do not or not willing to share his/ her faith is a rebellious Christian and not worthy to be called by that name. “Christianity” in its real and scriptural perspective means “Christ in the flesh” meaning, in all parts of your body both physiological and anatomically you suppose to carry him. Jesus told his disciples, “follow me, and I will make you fishers of men” (Matt. 4:19)
  • 72. Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR GABRIEL JEREMIAH 58 The implication is that if we are really following, we’ll be fishing-soul-wining. Jesus last words were, “go therefore and make disciples of all the nations”. (Matt. 28:19). If we must make disciples of all the nations, we must conduct market place evangelism. Only pastors and evangelists cannot fulfill the divine mandate, even we must achieve God’s purpose and desire concerning the nations. When God says nations, God does not mean the church but rather all over the streets and corners of this world. The Christians in the New Testament went everywhere preaching the word of God. “Therefore, they that scattered abroad went everywhere preaching the word” (Acts 8:4) For you to effectively affect the lives of the public with God’s word, you must consider these: (a) Evangelistic Burden for the Lost Sheep– You must ask God to give you an evangelistic burden for others. I said in the last chapter that if you must be a Christian, you must consider it to
  • 73. Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR GABRIEL JEREMIAH 59 be a burden to preach and advancing God’s kingdom. Pray and ask God to help you to see the people of the public the way He (God) sees it and to lay upon your heart, strength, soul and mind a burden of evangelizing the poor masses. Also, ask God to put upon your heart a handful of people for whom you can earnestly pray. Then pray over those names everyday. An old song says, “Lord, lay some soul upon my heart and love that soul through me; and may I humbly do my part to win that soul to thee”. (b) You Must live a Consistent Christian Life Before Public– I want you to see yourself as Christ. You are currently representing Christ until he comes. Jesus said, “You are the light of the world (people in the world). Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your father in heaven”. (Matt. 5:14-15). Listen to me Christians, we must do as we preach. The public want to really see what you profess in you. You cannot ask me to repent while you have not. For gospel of Jesus can only get to all Christians through if you live an exemplary life.
  • 74. Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR GABRIEL JEREMIAH 60 Once they see that what you are preaching, you are not qualified, then they will not be willing to accept it. We must live obedient lives of integrity and authenticate faith. We must love when others hate and forgive when others around us habour grudges. We must remain trusting when others panic, and be honest when all around us are cooking the books. Not that we are going to be perfect – only Christ was sinless. But we must have a growing, maturing Christian life that others recognize and respect. (c) Build Bridges to Others– When the Lord shows you those needing Christ, seek to build a relationship with them. When I discover a particular child spiritual need ,and want him/her to join my ministry so that I can impart him with Christ, and knowing that I cannot get him/her on my own I have to collect their parents phone number and address them by making friend with such family. The relationship between me and the family would give the mandate and the parent trust and allow me handle the child.
  • 75. Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR GABRIEL JEREMIAH 61 Even as I am writing this now, I have an appointment with a family at 3:30pm in their house to save that particular child. You must bring yourself low to be able to get soul for Christ because sometimes if you invite them they will not come, so you need to go to them. Jesus said we should take the gospel to the world not the world coming to us. Put down your pride and march on with Jesus. Remember how Jesus went to the home of Zaccheaus where many sinners had gathered. Some Christians may wrongly interpret that God said,” have nothing to do with sinners”. But if that is the real meaning, who are we going to preach the gospel to? Is it the believer? While we must be careful not to place ourselves in an environment where we’ll be pulled down, we must be equally careful to cultivate friendships with those needing Christ. Perhaps Christ has placed you in your particular school or work place just to reach those whom no one else can reach.
  • 76. Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR GABRIEL JEREMIAH 62 (d) Learn and Study the Gospel- Memorize the following verses and practices saying them in a mirror or to another Christian until you are comfortable sharing them with someone needing Christ. Romans 3:23; 6:23; 5:8; 10:9, 10, 13: John 5:1, 13. (e) Watch for Opportunities to Share a Word for Christ– Peter said: “sanctify the Lord God in your hearts and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you” (I Peter 3:15) (f) If the Right Opportunity does not Come Naturally, Create One– Sometimes we wait too long, looking for just the right time to invite someone to church or to share with them the message of the gospel. There often comes a point when we must prayerfully introduce the subject and do our best to impress someone with their need for Christ.
  • 77. Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR GABRIEL JEREMIAH 63 (g) Leave the Result with God – We are responsible for sharing the gospel but only God can convert the soul. Having done your best let Him do the rest. . We must allow the Holy Spirit of God to do the conversion, but ensure we speak the truth and hidden nothing. (h) A Heart for God and Dynamic Follower of Christ – “For even hereunto were ye called because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example that ye should follow his steps” (I Peter 2:21) Colossians 3:17) “And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the father by him”. This is where all ministries begins, whether you are teaching Sunday school or leading the entire, even market place evangelism organizer. In fact, this is where our ministries should flow from – our deep, sincere, committed heart for God. (i) A Passion for God’s Word– A heart for God and love for people set the stage for the content of our evangelism (preaching or
  • 78. Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR GABRIEL JEREMIAH 64 teaching). The content needed to be solidly based on biblical truth. As Christians, it is our responsibility to dig in to God’s word not just to preach or share our lessons but to understand it fully and allow it to permeate every part of our lives. As we do this, the element of our preaching and teaching becomes based on and saturated in the word. (j) A Habit of Prayer– “I exhort therefore, that first of all, supplication, intercessions and giving of thanks be made for all men” (I Tim. 2:1). Oswald chambers , said “prayer doesn’t equip us for greater works, prayer is the greater work”. A great Christian or minister of the gospel knows that it is the power of God that brings about transformation, so a deep dependence on God, is exhibited through the habit of praying is essential for Christians or ministers of the gospel. There was a time I was not seriously concerned about prayer but I preached and do evangelism. The first program I had in the public place, a poster was done and pasted everywhere around the country unfortunately, the next few days all the

Market Place Ministry ORUIKOR GABRIEL JEREMIAH 65 posters disappeared and I was afflicted with an unknown skin disease, which almost kill me, but God helped me through the prayers of others. so since then, I made it mandatory to pray every three hours in a day. And before going with my evangelical team we always pray and coming back the same prayer. I want you to know that wining a soul involves prayers because the people you want to talk to or had spoken to may be discouraged by the power of the devil, so consistent prayer is pre-requisite for winning a soul.
