NMAAM Celebrates Black Music Month
The National Museum of African American Music Celebrates Black Music Month
with Special Events
Nashville, Tenn. (June ##, 2015)—The National Museum of African American Music hosts a
month of events celebrating Black Music Month. The events include: Sips & Stanzas:
Remembering Michael: Honoring His Contribution to the Music Industry, Guest Blogger
program, and Legends Luncheon.
Sips & Stanzas, a once-a month event, is a unique experience engaging participants in
interactive conversations with music leaders representing business, performance, media and
other industry aspects - all part of Nashville’s music scene. The event offers a chance for
professionals to socialize, engage and impact a growing awareness of a #NewNashville
atmosphere, featuring music in multiple genres.
This month’s Sips & Stanzas will discuss the impact that Michael Jackson’s music has had on
America and World culture. The discussion will also include how his style and influence has
impacted other artists.
NMAAM has partnered with musical artists and journalists who will provide weekly blogs for
the entire month of June. These bloggers will share facts about Black Music, insight on the
Nashville music scene, and historical events related to Black Music Month.
My Music Matters: A Celebration of Legends Luncheon will honor icons such as:
● Cece Winans: Grammy, Dove and Stellar award winning gospel icon
● Michael Bivens: Former member of New Edition, Bel Biv Devoe and hip-hop legend
● Howard Hewett: Singer, songwriter and 1980’s R&B sensation
● Donny Hathaway: singer, songwriter and keyboardist whose music is known for merging the
melodic sounds of R&B, Gospel, Jazz, Classical and Rock genres.
Tickets are $125 and can be purchased here.
