2. What is HIPPA?
Greetings to all!
HIPPA or the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability
Act is a group of laws or regulations that protect patients
information from being shared. (Wright, 2013). Not only
does these laws create a confidentiality clause with the
patients and their providers but also creates a standard for
employees.
3. What I am Doing to Protect Patients and
Employees
The first step I am taking as a
leader is initiating a mandatory
HIPPA/HITECH employee
engagement activity. This
activity will involve live
interaction from the employees
and the administration.
No one will be exempt from
participating and everyone must
obtain this training yearly.
• After the training there will be a
test of obtained information that
all the employees must pass
before working.
• Test will be administered to
clinical and nonclinical workers
• Everyone will share the same
vision of patient protection for
the health care company.
4. Consequences
• Employees who compromise patient’s confidentiality will
immediately be reprimanded and subject to being permanently
removed from their position.
• Patients will remain the primary focus of the health care organization.
With the adoption of electronic charting and communication systems,
there will be two patient identifiers. This will keep the patients
information secure and only available to them.
