3. Introductory Email Example
Dear Dr. ________:
My name is __________and I am currently a junior at the University of
Washington Bothell pursuing a Bachelors of Science in Biology. I recently attended
your research seminar, “Studying Cooperation from Another World.” The idea of
observing the evolution of cooperative mutualism between microorganisms in
itself is exciting to me. I was fascinated by the fact that your research found that
mutations in the essential porin gene and sulfate reduction genes in bacteria
caused greater growth and yield in the bacteria populations. I would be very
interested in exploring these questions further.
I recalled that you said you were looking for undergraduate research assistants.
Thus, I am writing to express an interest in applying for a research assistant
position. Attached is my resume outlining my qualifications and describing my
past undergraduate studies. I am happy to meet and discuss this at your
convenience.
Thank you very much for your time and consideration.
