Hargreaves a company built on Heritage
Founded in 1872 in Bury, Lancashire, Hargreaves has
become a name synonymous with ventilation ductwork and
well renowned throughout the industry as a manufacturer
and distributor of high quality HVAC solutions.
To this day the ethos within Hargreaves remains one of customer
focus and unparalleled quality, ensuring that the industry of the
‘tinner’ lives on in Bury through the continued manufacture of
quality ventilation solutions.
Hargreaves Trade Counters
Our nationwide network of trade counters offers bespoke and
off-the-shelf ventilation solutions across the UK.
The complete air movement system, from fan to air terminal
device, can be purchased over the counter including all the
necessary fixings and tools.
Our experienced staff are on hand to advise you on the right
solutions for your client and can offer technical support where
needed.
We also welcome orders for the supply of ventilation ductwork
specifically designed for a particular project and can provide
specialist ductwork components including: flat oval, fire duct,
double skinned, painted and welded stainless steel.
Founder Henry Hargreaves was born in Bury, Lancashire.
He served his time as a tinsmith in the town, where
incidentally it is claimed that the first ‘tinners’ (or ‘tinbashers’)
had originated many years before.
Henry Hargreaves and Sons is founded and in 1892
occupied a shop in Silver Street where their first roof
ventilators, used on churches and schools were made.
Hargreaves acquired premises in Cook Street, Bury (Albert
Works) and in 1934 becomes a private limited company.
Further expansion with the purchase of a second factory on
Cook Street.
1957 saw a momentous change in the firm’s history as
Henry Hargreaves and Sons was acquired by the Senior
Engineering Group Limited.
Hargreaves enter the Nuclear industry with the manufacture
and installation of ductwork systems for Dungeness.
Hargreaves adds design capabilities to its portfolio.
The first of Hargreaves ‘Trade Counter’ branch network
opened in Bury and soon becomes a national business with
trade outlets opening throughout the country.
New manufacturing facility opened at Lord Street, Bury
applying ‘Lean’ manufacturing techniques.
M+W Group purchase the now Hargreaves Ductwork LTD
from Senior Group and the company returns to its traditional
trading name ‘Hargreaves’, that is synonymous with
unrivalled quality in ductwork systems throughout the UK.

A02SUREFIT
Preparation
All materials need to be clean.
Shortening the ducts
Cut each duct with a right angle. Trim the shortened duct.
Mounting of the fittings
• Check the ducts, fitting and rubber seals for imperfections.
• Slide the end of the insert length of the fitting up to its
swage. Turn the fitting slightly to make the mounting easier
(see Figure 1).
• Mount the fitting to the duct with drill quicks or pressure
tight blind rivets (see Figure 2).
• The table below shows the required number of drill quicks
or pressure tight blind rivets per diameter duct:
• Use as short as possible drill quicks or pressure tight blind
rivets.
• Distribute the drill quicks or pressure tight blind rivets
evenly.
• Prevent damage to the rubber seal by mounting the drill
quicks or pressure tight blind rivets 10-15mm from the end
of the duct.
• In case of wrong mounting blind the rivet holes.

What are Hargreaves Fire Systems?

CE Marking (originally Conformité
Européene) demonstrates compliance with
the appropriate manufacturing standard for
a product.
CE Marking for all construction products
are covered by a harmonised European

What is CE Marking?

In order to comply with the product
standard BS EN 12101-7: 2011 and
provide a versatile system that can
function in all modern buildings the
following tests are required:
BS EN 1366 - 1:1999 for a Duct A, then a
Duct B. These must be conducted in both
the horizontal and vertical orientations.
Following these it is then further tested in
accordance with the standard:
BS EN 1366 - 8:2004 for a Duct C, which
has additional requirements to ensure it is
suitable for a smoke control duct application.

Ducting to DW144.
Accurate dimensions of flat oval together with relevant design
information are shown in the tables opposite. A maximum length
of 3658mm (12ft) applies in general, with the exception of the
shaded area, whereby a maximum length of 3048mm (10ft)
applies.
For all sizes we would ask that you seek guidance and clarification
on the manufacturing lead time required for your individual project
or application.
Circular design equivalents do not take into consideration the
effect of tie-rods on the system resistance. Circular design
equivalents are based on the flat oval skin resistance only
without any protrusions or obstructions to the airflow.

The Hargreaves’ range of rectangular
ductwork has been designed to fit with both
traditional and complex projects and is part
of our complete line of HVAC products.
Suitable for almost every commercial
project for low, medium and high-pressure
requirements, rectangular ducting is one of
the most versatile and popular products
on the market.
Rectangular ducting is ideal for projects
that require a bespoke solution, as it is not
available to buy off the shelf. Its versatility
means that it can be produced in a wide
range of sizes and it can accommodate
most HVAC requirements. It can also be
manufactured in standard and non-standard
lengths, with knock-on flange systems
available, to allow all sections of the ducts
to be connected to one another through a
robust fixture and fitting mechanism – an
integral part of the system.
All rectangular ducting systems are
manufactured using our in-house CAD
design facilities to provide true bespoke
solutions.

environments, special coatings can help
give a longer life to ductwork installations.
Exposed ductwork can be supplied with
any one of a vast range of finishes. Using
special materials such as acrylated rubber,
polyester powder coatings and epoxy
powder coatings can all help to ensure
that ventilation systems are prepared for
the rigours of chemically aggressive, moist
environments such as swimming pools or
harsh surroundings in coastal areas.
Our products are available in a vast range
of British Standard (BS) and RAL colours.
These modern colour finishes can be
applied to any ductwork configuration,
offering the option for ductwork to become
a decorative feature in open service
environments.
As part of our bespoke service our
products are supplied to length, complete
with branches and access doors, which
are pre-fitted to the duct before the
coating is applied to minimise waste,

derived from Hargreaves’ version of the
DW 144 specification we use as standard,

High Efficiency Heat Recovery Units with Rotary Wheel
Highly efficient heat recovery units with rotary
wheel, plug-fans with backward curved
blades and EC external-rotor motor.
Pre-configured control system for easy
start-up.
The casing is made of 50 mm thick, self-
supporting double skinned panels (mineral
wool, 40 kg/m3, thermal conductivity
0.037 W/ mK). The outer skin is made
from coated steel (RAL7024) with a high
resistance against corrosion (class: RC3)
and UV light (class: RUV3) according to
EN 10169 and the inner skin is made from
galvanised steel.
Support feet are made from 3 mm,
RAL9011 coated, 100 mm height (except
RHE 6000 to 10000 models, which are
base-mounted), with possibility to fit
anti-vibration mounts or leveling feet (as
accessories).
Easy access to all components via large
hinged front doors.
Circular inlet and discharge connection
flanges with EPDM rubber seal strip,

3500 HD, rectangular connections for the
sizes 3500 VD, 6000, 8000 and 10000.

of operating control:
VAV- variable air volume
Fan speed can be adjusted with a 0 - 10V
signal from the remote touchscreen panel
(included) or an external CO2, temperature
or humidity sensor (accessories).
CAV - constant air volume
Manual pre-setting of 2 working points.
The fans are controlled separately.
COP - constant pressure
Constant pressure measured by an
external sensor (accessory).
Fan / Motor

free ball bearings and permanent lubrication,
with integrated electronic protection
