So, in the beginning of the 19th century, the government was involved in many labor disputes which
then sided with the employers. Then after 1890, the courts used antitrust laws to rule unions illegal.
Because of those laws or lack thereof, it made it difficult for unions to achieve any gains. The
American Revolution had individual liberty as its ideal concept. It was protecting property rights as
well as business owners. Also, the freedom of the worker was taken into account as well. So came
the Freedom of Contract. This contract was made with a choice to the employer but at the same time
