To Whom It May Concern:
I am writing this letter to recommend that you hire Anthony Reed for the internship with
HJGT for the Fall 2009-2010 school year. Anthony has graduated from Eastern
Kentucky University with an excellent education as well as shouldering the
responsibilities of dealing with his peers through many difficult situations as a resident
advisor. I knew him as a student in high school and have seen how he has matured and
moved forward to continue his education to create a successful life.
I have known Anthony for almost six years. First as a quiet reserved high school
sophomore who was unsure of his abilities but had a strong desire to improve. Whenever
he was given a difficult assignment he attacked it head on and worked tirelessly to make
sure that it was up to the stringent standards of our writing program. As a student I am
very impressed with his work ethic and attention to detail. In my class, as a sophomore,
he was required to participate in activities that stretched him out of his comfort zone and
he did so with grit and determination. These skills helped him have the confidence to
choose to take the most difficult academic program offered at our school. He studies
hard, works an outside job, participates in varsity sports and is relied upon by his close-
knit peer group for his knowledge, practical insight and counsel. I know that his mature
attitude toward life has continued as he has worked through college while managing to
encourage his family at home as they weathered a number of catastrophic health
problems. It takes a leader to prioritize and manage to move forward in adversity and
this is one of many areas where Anthony continues to excell
Extra-curricular activities also demonstrate his strength of character while Anthony’s
leadership qualities allow him to command the respect of his teammates on the baseball
team, football team and the soccer team in addition to being a vital member of his
International Baccalaureate class in high school Anthony has achieved his goal to be one
of the first members of his immediate family to attend and graduate from college. Now
he is ready to move forward onto his next challenge. He is an exemplary student who
will be an asset to any organization in which he participates. His motivation and
enthusiasm will benefit HJGT as he looks to you to guide him toward a wonderful future.
Thank you for your time and consideration,
