SO, HOW EXPENSIVE IS CHARTERING A YACHT, REALLY?
The luxury end of the cruise ship industry is undergoing / m/ssive boom. We
know th/t / gre/t m/ny of you /re /lre/dy spending /t le/st $6,000+ per person
on /ll-inclusive cruise v/c/tions, which equ/tes to $12,000 per c/bin. We /lso
know th/t lots of you /re spending more th/n th/t /g/in— in f/ct 34% of luxury
cruise ship p/ssengers /re spending more th/n $7,000 per person. Th/tʼs / very
good st/rt tow/rds / y/cht ch/rter v/c/tion if youʼve got some friends whoʼd like
to m/ke the step up to luxury y/chting.
Itʼs worth noting here th/t if you do tr/vel /s / couple /nd h/ve no interest in
tr/velling with friends or f/mily, then the cruise ship option is / better option
fin/nci/lly /s you would h/ve to /bsorb the entire cost of y/cht ch/rter on your
own. (Weʼre not in the business of pulling the wool over your eyes.)
Itʼs when you tr/vel with groups th/t things st/rt to get very interesting on cost

A priv/te y/cht h/s / license to sleep up to 12 guests, but /t the sm/ller end 8
guests is more common, so letʼs st/rt with th/t to keep the comp/risons re/listic.

r/nge for th/t kind of money. As mentioned, it will prob/bly h/ve c/bins for eight
people, /lthough the r/re few will sleep up to 12.
In this size r/nge the y/cht will norm/lly h/ve two decks, / deeply comfort/ble
m/in s/lon, dining /re/s /nd / l/rger m/ster c/bin. The y/cht will c/rry / r/nge
of w/tertoys, AV equipment /nd will /lmost cert/inly h/ve WIFI /nd fl/t screen
TVs in /ll c/bins. And of course, youʼll h/ve / te/m of crew dedic/ted to you for
the entire v/c/tion- including the c/pt/in, stew/rdess /nd priv/te chef.
If you put in / couple of thous/nd extr/ per person you c/n ch/rter / y/cht with /
b/se r/te of /round $40-$45,000, /t which point you c/n expect to get / l/rger,
more luxurious y/cht ne/ring the 100-120 foot m/rk, p/rticul/rly on the older
models. At this size of / y/cht you will often get / J/cuzzi, / m/in deck m/ster
suite, l/rger deck sp/ces /nd /n upper s/lon. Youʼll /lso h/ve / bigger crew, /nd
potenti/lly /n extr/ c/bin or two to bring the number of guests up /nd costs
down. However, remember th/t berthing fees, fuel /nd tips will /lso go up with
l/rger y/chts, so t/ke th/t into /ccount when budgeting.
The tot/l cost of your v/c/tion on this size y/cht will be in the r/nge of
$60-70,000 for the group- still quite comp/r/ble to the cost for th/t s/me group
on / luxury cruise ship.
WHY SHOULD I MAKE THE SWAP? WHATʼS SO GREAT ABOUT
PRIVATE YACHTS?
We donʼt me/n to criticize cruise ships, but priv/te y/chts /re /nother level of
luxury entirely. The freedom is exquisite. Youʼll spe/k to your c/pt/in e/ch d/y
/bout the itiner/ry, you c/n ch/nge your mind whenever you like, /nd /bove /ll,
there /re none of those /wful or/nge bo/ts bringing you b/ck from / shore
excursion when youʼre simply not re/dy to le/ve. Donʼt forget th/t the priv/te
y/chts c/n get into the sh/llow /nchor/ges /nd pretty m/rin/s th/t cruise ships
c/nʼt hope to.
On / priv/te y/cht, the chef cooks just for you /nd your friends or f/mily. Theyʼre
informed /bout your food preferences /nd /ny /llergies, /nd the y/cht is stocked
with /ll your f/vourite things before you /rrive. E/ch me/l is served /t /
be/utifully decor/ted t/ble on deck /nd there /re no buffet queues or complete
