Films in the Valley
Groundbreaking films, frequent celebrity
sightings and exquisite ski-resort surroundings
make Sun Valley an ideal place to celebrate the
silver screen in early March.
This year’s Sun Valley Film Festival, March
2–6, will feature 60 films, including world
premieres, shorts, narratives and documentaries,
with programming ranging from dramatic and
cause-driven features to lighthearted comedies.
The festival is known for its intimate feel, exemplified by events such as its Coffee
Talks, which are open to the public each morning. One of these Coffee Talks
sessions will be headlined by Academy Award–winning
director Oliver Stone, the winner of the festival’s 2016
Lifetime Vision Award.
In addition to the daily screenings and special
events, the Sun Valley Film Festival provides convenient
access to the area’s world-class skiing, and enticing
food and music events.
Alaska Airlines is a sponsor of the Sun Valley Film
Festival. The airline is also sponsoring the Reel Sweet
Sweeps—an opportunity to enter a drawing in which
winners will receive round-trip airline tickets and
accommodations at Sun Valley Resort in addition to
festival passes.

Pop Art Pops Up in Sacramento
Andy Warhol’s impact on the art world is still felt through
his pioneering work in the genre of Pop Art. Next month,
more than 160 pieces by Warhol will be on display at
Sacramento’s Crocker Art Museum, in the expansive
exhibition “Andy Warhol: Portraits” (March 13–June 19).
Works on display will include paintings of Sylvester
Stallone, Gerald Ford and other famous figures. In addi-
tion to these portraits, some of Warhol’s earliest sketches
will be on view.
Museumgoers can also try making screen-test films in a
style similar to Warhol’s filmed works by using a 1960s-era
motion-picture camera updated for digital output.
