California and Nevada Credit Union Leagues Gather at 2016 REACH Conference - 11/04/16
Members of Greater Nevada's Senior Leadership Team attended the 2016 REACH
conference held this week in Las Vegas to gain insight into upcoming industry trends and best
practices to advance credit unions.
REACH is the premier annual event of the California (CCUL) and Nevada Credit Union (NCUL)
Leagues. The leagues were celebrating the 20-year anniversary of the ground-breaking
management arrangement between the two leagues that happened earlier in the year.
The conference kicked off with Greater Nevada Vice President of Member Services Tom Wambaugh singing the National Anthem.
Greater Nevada President and CEO Wally Murray, who serves as the Chairman of the Nevada Credit Union League Board, introduced one
of the speakers, past CCUL and NCUL President Dave Chatfield. During the introduction, Wally addressed the importance of the
partnership and Dave's key role in bringing this historic agreement to fruition.
"At a time when many leagues across the U.S. have made an alternative
decision to give up their individual state identities and merging into regional
association, the largest and most influential league in the country continues
to subscribe to a vastly different concept," Wally said. "It does so because
the unique model that has been in place for the last 20 years has proven to
be wildly effective, especially in the area of advocacy, which is widely
regarded as the most important activity of credit union trade associations.
And this relationship came about in 1996 largely because of the efforts and
vision of a single individual."
Conference sessions included a discussion about strategic implications of
key developments shaping the financial services landscape, the changing
credit union work place, digital and branch marketing, information
security, and tools, tactics and programs that can help the credit union
empower the communities they serve. Other topics included discussion on how to empower members' financial health by driving
products, programs, and education to help improve and maintain positive financial management habits, and why and how credit unions
actively buy and sell member business loan participations, and anticipated credit union trends.
"The annual conference of the Nevada and California Credit Leagues continues to be one of our industry's most thought provoking
events, and this year's version was no different," Wally said. "There were a number of excellent sessions, including ones facilitated by
executives from Google and Cirque du Soleil. I continue to believe it is important for Greater Nevada to stay in touch with what's going

on in areas beyond the financial services world. That's because the high quality experiences such entities deliver to their customers often
quickly become the experiences our members and clients expect to receive in all aspects of their lives, including from their credit union
and home loan provider. So I'm grateful that a number of our volunteer Directors and management team members were able to join me
at this year's League convention. And I look forward to seeing how some of the information we received helps shape the future strategic
dialogue within our organization."
The Nevada and California Credit Leagues' annual business meeting was also conducted during the REACH conference.
