• Bangladesh, officially the People's
Republic of Bangladesh, is a
country in South Asia.
• It shares land borders with India
and Myanmar. Nepal, Bhutan and
China are located near Bangladesh
but do not share a border with it.
• The country's maritime territory
in the Bay of Bengal is roughly
equal to the size of its land area.
• Dhaka is its capital and largest
city.
• Chittagong is country's largest
port.
• The languages of Bangladesh is
Bengali.
5. There are Eight Divisions and 64 Districts in
Bangladesh. The divisions are Dhaka,
Rajshahi, Chittagong, Sylhet, Barisal,
Mymensingh, Khulna & Rangpur.

6. Father of the Nation

The Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur
Rahman is the architect of independent Bangladesh. Sheikh
Mujibur Rahman (17 March 1920 – 15 August 1975) was a Bengali
politician and Statesman. He served as the First President of
Bangladesh later Premier from March 1971 untill his assassination
in August 1975 . Sheikh Mujibur Rahman is popularly known as
the Bangabandhu - or The Friend of Bengal, which name is given by
Student leader Tofail Ahmed in 23 February 1969. Sheikh Mujibur
Rahman is credited as the central figure in Bangladesh's liberation
movement and is considered the founding father of Bangladesh.

The National Flag was designed by Kamrul
Hasan.
• The red circle of the national flag represents
the rising sun and the bloody sacrifices of
countless Bangladeshi people for their
freedom and the green background of
national flag symbolizes our wonderful
natural resources.
• The sanctity and the dignity of the National
Flag is protected and officially preserved by
an act of Bangladesh Flag rules, 1972. As per
the rules, the national flag is rectangular in
size with the length to width ratio of 10:6.
8. National Emblem

The national flower Shapla (water lily) is surrounded by two
sheaves of rice. Above the water lilly are four stars and a three
jute leaves. Located on the emblem is a water lily, that is
bordered on two sides by rice sheaves. Above the water lilly are
four stars and a three connected jute leaves.
• The water lily is the country’s national flower, and is
representative of the many rivers that run through
Bangladesh.
• Rice represents its presence as the staple food of
Bangladesh, and for the agriculture of that nation.
• The four stars represent the four founding principles in
the current constitution of Bangladesh of 1972:
nationalism, secularism, socialism, and democracy.
9. Government Seal

• The Government Seal of Bangladesh used by the
Ministries of Bangladesh and the Government of
Bangladesh on official documents.
• One version is used on the cover page of Bangladeshi
passports.
• The outer white ring is shown with the caption of the
official name of the Government of the People’s
Republic of Bangladesh in Bengali: গণপ্রজাতন্ত্রী বাাংলাদেশ সরকার
with 4 red 5-pointed stars. In center the country map on
a red disc.
10. National poet of Bangladesh

• Kazi Nazrul Islam ( 26 May 1899 – 29 August 1976)
was a Bengali poet, writer, musician,
and revolutionary .He is the national
poet of Bangladesh.
• Popularly known as Nazrul.
• He produced a large body of poetry and music with
themes that included religious devotion and spiritual
rebellion against fascism and oppression.Nazrul's
activism for political and social justice earned him the
title of "Rebel Poet" (Bidrohi Kobi).
• The songs of Nazrul is known as Nazrul
Sangeet (Music of Nazrul). The same genre is known
as Nazrul Geeti (Music of Nazrul) in India.
• He is equally commemorated and revered in
Bangladesh & Indian states West Bengal & Tripura
11. The Central Bank of Bangladesh

Bangladesh Bank is the central bank of Bangladesh
and is a member of the Asian Clearing Union.
• The bank is active in developing green banking
and financial inclusion policy and is an important
member of the Alliance for Financial Inclusion.
• The first governor of Bangladesh Bank is Mr.

The Shapla (Nymphaea nouchali) is the
national flower of Bangladesh.
• Shapla is considered a medicinal plant in
Indian Ayurvedic medicine under the name
Ambal.
• It was mainly used to treat indigestion.
• Recent experiments have confirmed that it
has medicinal qualities.
• Its tubers, rhizomes, peduncles & leaves are
also valued as food.

The Jackfruit (Artocarpus heterophyllus) is the
national fruit of Bangladesh.
• It is native to parts of South and Southeast Asia
• It is widely cultivated in tropical regions of
Bangladesh.
• The jackfruit tree is well suited to tropical
lowlands.
• Its fruit is the largest tree-borne fruit, reaching as
much as 80 pounds (36 kg) in weight, 36 inches
(90 cm) in length, and 20 inches (50 cm) in
diameter.

• The Royal Bengal Tiger (Panthera
tigris) is the national animal of
Bangladesh.
• The tiger replaces the lion as King of
the Beasts in cultures of eastern Asia
representing royalty, fearlessness
and wrath.
• Members of the East Bengal
Regiment of the Bangladesh Army
are nicked ‘Bengal Tigers’.
• The regiment’s logo is a tiger face
and The Bangladesh Cricket Board’s
logo features a Royal Bengal Tiger.
• We see the Royal Bengal Tiger in
Sundarbans mostly.

• The Ilish or Hilsha, also spelled Elish
(Tenualosa ilisha), is national fish of
Bangladesh.
• The Ilish is a popular fish to eat among
the people of South Asia.
• This fish is imported by Bangladesh
also.
16. National Bird

• The Magpie Robin (Copsychus saularis) is the
national Bird of Bangladesh.
• It is common and known as the Doyel or Doel.
• They are common birds in urban gardens as well
as forests.
• They are particularly well known for their songs.
• It is a widely used symbol in Bangladesh,
appearing on currency notes, and a landmark in
the city of Dhaka is named as the Doyel Chatwar
(meaning: Doyel Square).
