2. RESORT,
THAILAND
Thailand’s tourism growth is huge, 15 million people are now arriving every single
year. It is important that sustainability is factored into tourism businesses so things
can be around for future generations. If they don’t make changes now in a certain
amount of years it will be too late. Thailand has mass tourism and with this
expanding will the damage be able to be undone? A lot of people living in Thailand
want to be acting as sustainable as possible to keep their country afloat and able to
be enjoyed for millions of years to come. Tourism products such as transport,
activities and accommodation all create an impact, but some are working really hard
to minimise this, such as The Golden Buddha Beach Resort, situated on the west
coast of Koh Phra Thong.
Triple Bottom Line- The businesses must consider the following elements at all
times:
Economics, social, environment, also know as the 3 P’s: Profits, people, place

Golden Buddha Beach Resort is being very sustainable in a number of ways, some things
they do is electricity only runs between 6pm-11pm, there is no hot water, no air
conditioning, no swimming pool and recycling of their own waste as well as others. These
sustainable acts are making a huge difference. There are so many positives that come out
of accommodation types like this on the environment, economy and also socially.
• ECONOMICS- The business is saving a lot of money by not having to pay for much
electricity. They are also saving money by using sustainable hardwood sources.
• SOCIAL- Employment- They are employing locals, 90% are local to the island,
craftsmen etc. It is educating people staying there to act in a sustainable way.
• ENVIRONMENT- Using local materials instead of transporting materials to the island
using ships. Using what is naturally there instead of creating it, for example allowing
natural breeze to cool people down instead of air conditioning, and using the Bay instead
of a pool.
There are many other great sustainable practises used on the Island of Koh Phra Thong
and in the country of Thailand. Making tourism look promising for future generations as
well as the environment.
