1. Now I’m just picking up the pieces of my broken life
thinking how I always used to work below the line.
Words of sorrow and thoughts of shame
picking up the pieces with just me to blame.
I now concede that I should have said “no”
when they said stop, I just thought “go”.
She was waiting at home and I had no time
My stupid short cut was well below the line.
Now my thoughts abound from this hospital bed
but she’s not here and my kids aren’t fed.
My tears roll down and hit the floor
and I will never sling a load no more.
Don’t you think it’s a crying shame
that I only have myself to blame?
I always thought safety was a waste of time
but I should have worked above that line.
Working below the line involves us, human beings,
that we constantly see and do things
but we dare not trust our best workmates
so please think above the line before it’s too late!
Listening to the voices in my head,
“You worked below the line and so should be dead”
my pain of regret will last my lifetime
so always work your life “Above The Line”!
