This poster was produced as part of the output by Alex Theobald's research internship. It demonstrates an engagement with item level data that emerges from our interactions with Musculoskeletal (MSK) outpatients. Patient reported outcomes like this deserve careful collation and analysis and I think that Alex has done a great job presenting the findings from his study. In Cambridgeshire Community Services NHS Trust we are aiming to increase research activity throughout all of our services. It was very pleasing that this poster was accepted for presentation at a prestigious PROMS conference.

1. The MSK-HQ profile of musculoskeletal health in
patients with chronic pain
Exploring individual items of the MSK-HQ provides useful data for health professionals to
evidence the impact of the dual interventions of exercise and CBT.

Over 50% of patients reports severe problems with “physical
exercise”, “overall impact”, “pain in the day” and “sleep”
Over 40% of patients reported severe problems with “social
activities”, “daily activities”, “fatigue”, “emotional well-being”
and “walking”
10/14 of the individual items improved at p<0.05 level
Overall Impact, Physical activity, emotional well-being and
social activities and hobbies improved at p<0.0001 level
Sleep was the only item reported severe by over 40% at baseline
which did not improve (P=0.467)
Under 10% of patients reported severe problems with
“washing and dressing”
The MSK-HQ was completed at the initial assessment and following class completion in patients
(n=44) attending musculoskeletal chronic pain groups. Data was analysed using a Wilcoxon signed-rank
test, to examine median changes in the total score and every individual item of the MSK-HQ.
