2 Mai is a village in Romania founded in 1887 located on the Black Sea coast between Mangalia and Vama Veche. The main occupations of the villagers are agritourism, fishing, tourism, and agriculture. It has become a quiet resort area popular with middle-aged people and young people looking for a seaside getaway. As a resort, 2 Mai features hotels, hostels, and campsites that provide accommodation to paying guests and tourists, with many tourists preferring to camp on the special beach camping area, which first gained popularity in the 1960s as a bohemian and charming retreat for the Bucharest intellectual elite.

2. A brief history…
2 Mai is a village in Limanu commune, Constanta
County, Romania, and a small resort on the shore of the Black
Sea, between Mangalia and Vama Veche. It is located
approximately 50 km south of Constanta, 260 km from
Bucharest and about 100 km North of Varna (Bulgaria).
The village was founded by Mihail Kogălniceanu in 1887
under the name Două Mai. Its first inhabitants
were Russians from Bucharest, Iaşi and Galaţi.
Later Lipovans from Tulcea
County and Romanians from Argeş County settled here.

tourism and agriculture.
The village of 2 Mai has recently become known in Romania as a
resort for middle-aged people and youngsters in search of a quiet
place on the seaside. It also benefits from being close to Vama
Veche, a very popular resort with the Romanian youngsters.
As a resort 2 Mai features hotels and hostels. Local villagers' houses
or campsites can also provide accommodation. Beside several
restaurants and bars there is also a popular nightclub
4. Paying guests and tourists can find accommodation in
various places throughout 2 Mai like regular village homes,
villas or board and lodging houses. However, the vast
majority of tourists simply prefer installing their tents in a
special designated area of the beach – our camping. The
village of 2 Mai first earned its touristic appeal in the ‘60s for
being one of those bohemian, quiet and charming seaside
retreats (an almost secret place) where the Bucharest
intellectual elite went in search of a low-profile, relaxing
holiday spent outdoors with only a tent for shelter (or maybe
finding accommodation with the locals). So, our camping, the
2 Mai Camping, came into existence some 50 years ago and
was mainly frequented by writers, poets and athletes. In time,
the tourists – who were experiencing an exhilarating feeling
of freedom here – wanted to enhance it by spending all day
and all night on the beach, as close to the sea as possible.
