As part of the Warwickshire Community and Voluntary Action Talent Match, Business in the Community has conducted a series of Behind the Scenes Industry taster days to help people who face certain barriers to employment and training to be inspired about the world of work. The aim of these events is to enhance the participants’ ability and knowledge when applying for work and to give them a greater understanding of the range of opportunities and benefits of working in certain sectors.
2. How does the day work?
Business in the Community | www.bitc.org.uk
We would like to ask the host to provide a room to use that can accommodate around 10 people
and to provide refreshments and lunch for the day.
A typical format of the Behind the Scenes day entails:
an introduction to the scope of your business and how you recruit as an organisation
a tour around your company, showing the delegates different roles within your organisation and
what they do
an opportunity for attendees to do a speed interview with some of your business volunteers
This is a typical format that can be amended to personalise to your company’s style e.g. you could
do a half day/full day of activities.
3. Why get involved?
Business in the Community | www.bitc.org.uk
There are many great reasons as to why your business should get involved:
This is a way for your business to showcase different roles/jobs that participants may not have
known about and where you might find it hard to recruit into your talent pipeline.
This opportunity is a great way to engage colleagues from different parts of the business to
help inspire the participants about the world of work, and this can count towards their corporate
volunteering.
It is a fantastic development opportunity for the person you nominate as your Team Lead as
they will take the lead in ensuring the day runs smoothly.
This provides excellent access to different talent pools with a range of different skills and
experiences
The visit will increase participants’ confidence and awareness of the workplace.
4. What support will BITC provide?
Business in the Community | www.bitc.org.uk
Business in the Community will be able to help provide the following:
Provide participants to attend the taster day and help supervise them on the day.
Help with organising the event e.g. set the agenda, provide support on the day and support
throughout the run up of the event.
Conduct briefing session with the Team Lead and the business volunteers.
5. Can I recruit any of the participants?
Business in the Community | www.bitc.org.uk
If you have met a candidate that you would be interested in recruiting, we would
like to encourage you to exchange contact details or accept a CV if this is
appropriate and talk about how to apply for work within your organisation.
