The origins of the British museumbegined in the will of the physician, Sir Hans.
In his lifetime, he collect more than 71.000 objects wich hewanted to be
preserved intact after his dead.
The British museum opened to the public on 15 January 1759, thesite of the
museumis in Bloomsbury (London). Is his sitein the actuality. Entry was free,
with the exception of two World Wars, the museumhas remained open ever
since.
In the early they have a number of high profile acquisitions, like the Rosetta
Stone and the Parthenon sculptures. TheQueen Elizabeth II , built in a space a
big library, is the largest covered public space in Europe.
