The project describes ways we can have sustainable living. It also discussed the ecological footprint. Some ways we can be sustainable that were discussed in the project are rain harvesting, photovoltaic electricity, solar heating, and dual flush toilet.

Important Terms: Sustainability and Ecological
Footprint
EcoVillage & Permaculture: La`akea Community
Green Homes: La`i`Ōpua Sustainable

Solar Living: Real Goods
13. Rainwater Harvesting
System
The Rainwater HOG modular
tank holds 50 gallons of water.
The HOG is molded of good
grade plastic and complies with
FDA and HPB regulatory
standards for food contact.
The tank itself is 100% recyclable
and has been designed to last a
life time.

14. Photo Voltaic Electricity
Saves oil: 75 million barrels of oil
are saved annually by all solar
power users
Financial incentives: All 50 states
offer financial incentives for
installing solar
Saves trees: Every one kW of solar
capacity you install on your house
is the equivalent of planting 200
trees
15. A 50 percent reduction in
traditional (emitting) energy use
means a 50 percent reduction in
CO2 emissions
A family of four with a water
heater can save up to 3 or 4 tons of
greenhouse gas emissions
compared to a conventional
electric water heater
Because of the benefits of solar
water heating, adding a unit to
your home will also increase its
value.
Solar Heating
16. AirScape Whole House Fans provide natural
cooling by quietly pulling in cooler outside
air and forcing hot air into the attic and out
existing roof vents.
This energy efficient natural cooling solution
will help you save energy dollars, reduce
A/C and enjoy a fresh and healthy sleeping
and living environment
Performing a complete air change in minutes
rather than hours. Eliminates pollutants.

17. Dual Flush Toilets
Dual-flush toilets have a two
setting activation mechanism that
uses either a lever with two
positions or a two-button system.
In addition to the environmental
upside to saving water, this also
reduces your water bill over time.
