2. • Flyball is a relay race between two teams
of 4 dogs
• They line up behind a start line and a
referee starts the clock
• Each dog needs to jump over four hurdles
hitting a flyball box that holds a
tennis ball.
• Once the trigger the box they need to
catch it and carry it over all four jumps.
• Once back over the finish line the next dog
goes until all four dogs have finished.
• Fastest time wins the heat. Normally best
3 of 5 wins the race.
WHAT IS FLYBALL?
3. • Flyball requires 4 jumps- may need extra slates
to add height depending on smallest dog on the
team.
• Start line- the start line is electronic and records
the speed of each dog and the total when
finished
• Flyball box
• Normally has a back to prevent balls from leaving
the ring.
• Gates to keep the dogs in the race separate from
bystanders
• Indoor events also require a special matting
to reduce the risk of injury.
WHAT EQUIPMENT DOES FLYBALL
REQUIRE?
4. The idea developed in the late 1960s
and early 1970s

turn.
Next add the jumps. Practice until the can do
all four jumps and hit the box appropriately.
Lastly, teach the dog to pass and stay in their
own lane.
HOW TO START TRAINING?
7. A swimmer's turn is when a dog
approaching the box from the
opposite side that the ball is placed.
The dog then jumps on sideways,
and all four feet hit the box to
trigger the ball.
The box turn is used to help reduce
