Company Background
The Grand Rapids Public Schools operate Kindergarten through 12th grade schools throughout the City
of Grand Rapids. Stan Wisinski, SIOR, CCIM and Mary Anne Wisinski-Rosely, SIOR, CCIM, of NAI Wisinski of
West Michigan represented GR Public Schools in the sale of a large former school building in Grand Rapids,
Michigan.
The Challenge
The challenge facing the client was that one of their very large school buildings, the former West Middle
School, needed to be sold. The property located at 615 Turner, NW was not being fully utilized therefore, the
City of Grand Rapids School Board decided to close the building and sell the property. The 194,580 square
foot building was well located and visible from the I-196 and US-131 interchange. It was designed for
a school with classrooms, cafeteria, gymnasium, auditorium and offices. It was very unique in that it had
several interior courtyards that allowed for natural light to enter the center of the building. Adding to the
challenge was that there were already a number of building conversions underway in the area.
The Solution
Stan and Mary Anne developed a strategy to target local developers that would be interested in a rehab
project of this size. They targeted redevelopment for offices as well as residential units.
The Solution
Within a few weeks of having the listing, a developer submitted an offer on the building to convert it to
residential condominiums.
