1. HomeHome
Unless you are a morning person who can quickly rise up early in the
morning, rousing from bed is proved difficult. Studies show that heart
attacks usually happen around this time, because a person’s natural
tendency to slowly “sit, yawn and stretch” first are often interrupted by
the sound of the alarm and the fear of getting late. Shifting from the
sleepy state to full-conscious swing should be observed, and all you
need is 10-20 minutes a day! This list of yoga poses can help you
become more awake and energized for the day ahead.
Basic procedure:
1. Relax and be seated on a mat.
2. Take slow deep breaths. Inhale and exhale for a minute or two.
3. Breathe and relax while executing each pose. No need to push
yourself too much.
4. On each stretch, hold for two full deep breaths. Release.
6. Note that if you only have 10 minutes, do poses 1, 2, 4, 5 and 7 only.
Routine:
1. Spinal stretch
a. Sit on the mat cross-legged, keep your sit bones flat and relaxed on the
mat. Straighten your spine by feeling the crown of your head. Then slowly
place your left hand on the right knee, inhale. Twist to the right keeping your
spine straight, exhale. Return to the center. Switch sides by placing the right
hand on the left knee and breathe. Return to the center.
b. With the right elbow supporting your weight, slowly bring your left arm
overhead and stretch to the side. If your sit bones get off the floor, then do not
stretch too far. Take breaths then switch to the other side.
2. Cat Tilt
Get off on all fours. Make sure your hands are placed under your shoulders and
your knees right under your hips. Stretch your spine by reaching the crow of
your head forward as you reach your tailbone to the other end. Inhale. Then
exhale as you hunch your back upward, similar to that of an angry cat. Draw
your chin towards our abdomen. A s you inhale, slowly drop your belly down,
as you lift your chin up the ceiling with your derriere. Repeat three times.

2. 3. Downward Dog
After the cat comes the dog. While on your all fours, press your weight on your
palms, tuck your feet. Breathe in, then lift your hips high up the ceiling. As you
exhale, bend your knees and return to the initial position relax your spine by
wagging your hips as if you have a tail.
While you are still on all fours, Inhale deeply. Slowly raise one leg and stretch
it as far as you can, while you exhale. Inhale as you switch legs and repeat.
4. Lunge
Still on all fours, Inhale. Place your right foot forward that the toes are parallel
with the hands, your knee right above the ankle, pressing your chest. Keep the
spine stretched enough by pressing your hips forward and shoulders down.
Breathe out then switch sides.
5. Side Stretch Lunge
While on the lunge position straighten-up your spine. Your right knees should
be on the level same level but away from your chest and the other left, pressed
on the floor. Support your right hand on the side as you raise the left arm,
inhale. Hold the pose, exhale. Switch arms as you inhale then hold the pose,
exhale. Repeat twice.
6. Runner’sstretch.
Stand up with feet wide apart toes pointing outward. Hold your right foot with
both hands, hold as you inhale. Try to draw your hips upward, keeping the front
leg as straight as possible. Hold on that position then exhale. This can be a
tough position for beginners, so you need to adjust your toe angle outward, to
keep the balance. Breathe as you switch sides.
7. Triangle pose
From the same standing position, place your right hand over the ankle, inhale.
Raise your left arm overhead that both your arms are creating a straight vertical
line. Exhale. Switch sides and repeat.
Finish your routine: Slowly go back to cross-legged sitting position or lie on your back. Relax quietly for a
couple of minutes to fine-tune your metabolism. You can also stretch you face muscles like smiling big to
kick start your day.
