9. A new technology built for
SAVINGSEnergy efficiency
• LED lamps will virtually pay for themselves because of their energy-saving qualities. While LEDs do cost slightly more up
front than for an incandescent bulb, LEDs require over 80% less energy to operate and emit the same amount of light. The
price difference will pay off in the first few utility bills and will continue to save your bottom line over time.
Labor savings
• By implementing LEDs in the lighting fixtures in your facility, the amount of payroll hours and cost spent on relamping
light fixtures will be reduced. For example, if you calculate the payroll cost to relamp a fixture at $0.50 to $1.00 per bulb
depending on if using a ladder is required to complete the task and factor in that an average LED can last about 25 times
longer than an average halogen bulb, that means you could save $12.50 to $25 of payroll cost for every LED bulb you
purchase.
• Bonus tip: Ladder injuries are the seventh most commonOSHA jobsite safety violation. Every time a worker uses a ladder
to change a light fixture, there is the potential risk of injury. LEDs can minimize this risk by reducing that necessity to
relamp fixtures as frequently.
Disposal costs
• Not only do CFLs cost your facility more to operate, but they also cost more to dispose of. CFLs must be recycled in
specially designed containers. The price of these containers includes a hazmat disposal fee.The price of this fee can vary
depending on your location, but it is an additional expense that can become costly. Failure to dispose of CFLs properly
puts your facility at risk of fines and endangers environmental and public health. In contrast, LED bulbs can be recycled
normally and without an expensive container, which saves your facility money.
