Richard Montgomery Chapter SAR newsletter - Spring 2022
1. From the President:
Compatriots,
Spring may finally be here! I am looking forward to
parades and grave markings and our other outdoors activities.
We have been asked by the Daniel Cooper DAR to assist with a grave marking
on Saturday April 30th. A couple of us will have to attend the SAR Annual
Conference on the same day, so if you can, please mark your calendar and plan
on attending the grave marking.
A big shout-out to our Compatriot Alan See.
At the recently concluded Leadership Forum in
Louisville, Alan was named NATIONAL CHAIRMAN
of the SAR Social Media committee. Alan’s
outstanding work for our chapter and the State
of Ohio Society caught their attention. Look for
a big improvement at the national level of our
organization. Well-deserved promotion Alan!
And good luck with all the extra work you just
signed up for.
Thank-you. Thank-you. We are very grateful to the Nick and Edna Weller
Charities which just presented us with another $2000 grant. The money is to
be used for our Youth Community Service Projects like our ROTC, Eagle Scout,
Essay Contests, etc.
I would also like to thank all the compatriots that contributed to our trailer
maintenance fund. We want to keep our parade float (also known as our public
relation’s “big gun”) looking sharp. Contributing members are listed on the
support page.
Our next meeting should be an entertaining one. We have a bagpiper coming
to play us some patriotic music. OHSSAR Vice President Jack Bredenfoerder will
also be joining us. See you there!

George Washington Birthday Celebration
Our chapter hosted a joint George Washington’s Birthday Celebration with the area DAR
chapters on February 19, 2022. The luncheon was held at the Presidential Banquet Center in
Kettering. Invited guests were Commodore Preble DAR, Daniel Cooper DAR, Fort GreenVille
DAR, Jonathan Dayton DAR, Jonathan Wright DAR, and Piqua-Lewis Boyer DAR. The
luncheon was attended by 70 people. Substituting for the scheduled FBI program, which
cancelled at the last moment, was Cathy Conrad from the Miami Valley Military History
Museum. Our Chapter presented her with two 250th Anniversary pins and later a check
made out to the museum for $150 was sent. During the celebration, Patty Kaplan was
awarded a Lydia Darragh Medal for services rendered to the SAR and JoAnn Collins was
awarded a Good Citizenship Medal for her veteran’s fund raising efforts. Ten door prizes
were given out and a nice time was had by all.

Joint presentation with Fort GreenVille DAR at St Mary’s school. Each student in grades 3-8
received a packet of stamps commemorating Patriots of the Revolutionary War. This illustrated
the many different ways assistance could have been offered. They were stamps of a soldier,
engineer, banker, politician, journalist, and more.
