Biography
Fortune 200 Business Development Executive and Entrepreneur: Most
recently Alain Charlois was the executive vice president, corporate and business
development, of Fallbrook Technologies Inc., a $17M startup company with $115
million of equity invested. The company markets its NuVinci technology; a
patented continuously variable planetary (CVP) transmission technology for use on
bicycles & eBikes, automotive-class, off-highway and industrial drives. He was
brought into the company to leverage his broad automotive executive background,
and to build up the licensing business with a focus on technology commercialization
and strategic investments. Alain Charlois is experienced working with investors,
banks and capital sources in support of financing activities and liquidity events. In
this role he led a worldwide strategic investor search, which resulted in securing
$40 million cash investment in licensing fees and equity from Dana Holding
Corporation and Allison Transmission.
Prior to joining Fallbrook in 2010, Alain Charlois was the president of HEF USA, a
wholly owned subsidiary of the HEF Group; a $200 million global company
specialized in tribology and surface treatment. He had full P&L responsibility for the
business in the NAFTA region. He kept the business afloat during the crisis and
used the opportunity to restructure the company footprint by expanding into
Mexico and localizing operations close to the main customers.
Before HEF, Alain Charlois enjoyed an outstanding career progression at TRW
Automotive, a $17 billion automotive supplier, a company for which he worked for
between 1992 and 2007. His last position was vice president of product planning
for TRW chassis, occupant restraint and electronics business units. In this role he
had global product planning and portfolio management responsibilities for the $11
billion active and passive safety product lines.

Biography In 2004, Alain was appointed vice president of business development for the TRW
Asia Pacific region based in Shanghai, China, a role he held until September 2006
and which was added to his previous responsibilities as global director of product
planning for the occupant restraint and automotive electronics product line. In Asia
he brought an intense focus on customer footprint, repositioning products and
competitive positioning through joint ventures, mergers and acquisitions and
strategic alliances.
Between 2000 and 2004 he served as TRW global director of product planning for
the occupant restraint and automotive electronics product lines. During that time
Alain was instrumental in the creation of EnTire LLC, a joint venture between
Michelin and TRW that developed and sold tire pressure monitoring systems. He
served on the Board of Managers until 2007.
Alain Charlois joined TRW in 1992 as director of product planning for convenience
electronics products based in Michigan, then he held various director positions in
program management, sales and business development in the automotive
electronics group prior to be promoted to director of Product Planning for the
occupant restraint and automotive electronics product lines.
Alain Charlois served in the French Navy as Lieutenant Junior Grade. He holds a
BS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Nancy, France (ENSEM), and a
Six Sigma Green Belt.
