Food Facts
In the USA, 30-40% of the food supply is wasted, equaling
more than 20 pounds of food per person per month.
Whenever a food product expires, it is sent to a food bank
which does the job of feeding the hungry and needful and
thereby ensuring that starvation is not a matter of concern.
Dr. Ted Labuza, a professor of food science at the
University of Minnesota has stated that “Foods can remain
safe to consume for some time beyond sell-by and even
use-by dates provided they are handled and stored
properly"
Outdated, damaged, and out-of-season items from
supermarkets, collectively known as "unsaleables," are sent
to large clearing houses known as reclamation centers.
Here, dangerous items such as broken jars and obviously
contaminated or spoiled foods are disposed of.

ABOUT
Story
Overview
Milk, Bread and Eggs, could be considered as some of the most important commodities in the life of a person. All his daily
activities require at least one amongst the following three products. But each of these products, arrives with an expiration date.
The nearer the expiration date, the less are the chances of a person buying it, there by leading to wastage of food. What if this
wastage could be avoided? The answer simply is BuyMeBy.
BuyMeBy, an online service, allows stores to publish discounts on items that are approaching their expiration date.
The closer to the date, the lower the price, this at least allows the store makes some money, rather than throwing the food out
after it expires. Shoppers could check for deals nearby on a mobile app or look up marked-down groceries online and book
delivery from the store or a service like Delivery.com
BuyMeBy would automate the process and take it online, by allowing grocery stores to reach outside their doors and pull
customers in with these sales sections that historically were only accessible to foot traffic.
If products still don't sell by the expiration date, BuyMeBy could send out automated alerts to food banks, which can accept items
that are past the printed expiration date. The main objective of BuyMeBuy is to reduce the wastage of food, buy providing the
same at discounted prices, so that the needy and those people who require it for a small interval of time can benefit from the
same.

TESTING FEEDBACK
There was testing conducted on a majority of people aged between 23-35 and a huge amount of feedback was gained,
on the basis of which the application was further refined and re-tested
Based on the testing conducted with the paper prototype and the initial wireframes, the following were the points that
were majorly highlighted.
-There should be a one click sign-up using Facebook/Google Plus
- No need to keep a seperate page for selecting the payment option, the same can be included in the cart itself.
-The MRP should also be present, along with the discounted rate, to show the amount of discount.
-A feature to classify based on the store should also be included.
-An option of Quick Buy or a user preferred purchase should be included.
-Change the way the expiry date is showcased, its better understandable if its ‘Expires in x Days’
-Inclusion of Brand and Types is important to increase user preference.

CONCLUSION
BuyMeBuy, is an attempt to reduce food wastage, one date at a time. In the
future, the major work would be on adding new functionality to the application,
namely the quick-buy feature, and a feature to classify based on the store. Apart
from this, a test prototype would be launched at a general store, to see how the
response is to the application.
