Clarifying Points
• Low scores on the SHI do NOT indicate
“low-performing” schools.
• Many actions will NOT require new
resources or responsibilities.

committee or team that meets at least four
times a year and oversees school health and
safety policies and programs?
Representative means that it includes school
administrators, health education teachers,
physical education teachers, mental health or
social services staff members, nutrition services
staff members, health services staff members,
maintenance and transportation staff members,
students, parents, community members, local
health departments or organizations, faith-
based organizations, businesses, and local
government representatives.
