3rd meeting
1. Meetings Reports
Meeting # 3 4/4/2011
In this meeting our main aim was to redesign our old apparatus to help us in our new objectives and to fix the problems we faced in our previous design.
We discussed various solutions for each problem separately as follows:
The base: we agreed to keep the same base and to make a crossed incision (hole) in it to help us in buckling by inserting the beam in this incision.
Supports: we decided to make a new supports which will cover the old ones’ problems -such as instability and friction with the T-slot that makes them difficult to move- by making a cylindrical bolt -not hexagonal as the old one- to let it move freely inside the T-slot and to add a hex. nut above the T-slot to lock the bolt where ever we need. Also we agreed to make them cylindrically shaped –previous ones had a knife edge- so that we prevent the beam from falling or slipping during experiments. They will have the same height as the old ones.
Tower: we will add a removable part to the tower to help us in buckling tests to make our device capable to test longer beams as well.
Wooden Part: we will make two new parts one for bending tests and the other one for buckling tests. The bending wooden part will have 3 slots made longitudinally to prevent it from spinning. The buckling wooden part will have a cylindrical shape and will be split lengthwise for about one third of the length to help us in holding the beam.
Ahmed Al.Shazly
