6. ECONOMIC OVERVIEW
India is the Fastest Growing Economy at 7.4% in 2018
Q1, 2018 GDP Growth Rate has increased to 7.7% compared to 7% in previous Quarter
GVA has decreased to 6.1% in current year compared to 6.6% in previous year.
In the month of Jan & Feb, 2018 growth of IIP was 7.5% & 6.9% respectively due to
mostly contribution of Manufacturing sector.
CPI rate is 5% in June, 2018 due to mostly contribution of Fruits i.e. 10.13%
FDI in India has decreased by 3% to $44.85 Billion in 2017-18.
Current FII net Investment is Rs 1775 Crores in July, 2018. FII net Investment backed
by expectations of an economic recovery, falling interest rates and improving earnings
outlook.
On 1st August, 2018 RBI decided to increase Repo Rate by 25 basis points to 6.50%.
Reverse Repo Rate is 6.25%
The Government achieved the Fiscal Deficit target of 3.5% of GDP in 2017-18.
7. BANKING INDUSTRY OVERVIEW
As per the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), India’s banking sector is sufficiently capitalised and
well-regulated.
Bank may be defined as a financial institution which is engaged in the business of keeping
money for savings and checking accounts or for exchange or for issuing loans and credit etc.
The Indian banking system consists of 27 public sector banks, 21 private sector banks, 49
foreign banks, 56 regional rural banks, 1,562 urban cooperative banks and 94,384 rural
cooperative banks, in addition to cooperative credit institutions
Bank credit grew at 12.64 per cent year-on-year to Rs 85.511 lakh crore (US$ 1,326.78
billion) on May 11, 2018 from Rs 75.91 lakh crore (US$ 1,131.47) on May 12, 2017.
