The war on drugs is being waged all over the world. People often see and hear about
those big seizures on television and the radio, showing the commitment of government
officials to this particular endeavor. Many lives are affected by the persisting trade and
distribution of illegal drugs. It is a multi-billion-dollar industry that continues to grow.
Nevertheless, government agencies perform their designated roles, tasks, and official
responsibilities to help alleviate the negative effects of prohibited substances. Here are
some of the biggest drug busts in history, involving tons of money:

Captagon bust, 2010
In 2010, enforcement officials from Saudi Arabia and Turkey launched operations to
seize substances that would be used to make Captagon pills. This drug, in the past, was
given to people suffering from narcolepsy and depression but has been banned in many
countries. Over a billion dollars’ worth of materials were recovered.

Australian authorities busted nearly 3 tons of assorted drugs that included Ecstasy and
crystal meth found inside a container from Germany. The estimated worth is around
$1.5 billion and is considered to be one of the biggest in Australia’s history.
Tons of cocaine in an LA warehouse, 1989
One of the most infamous drug operations in recent memory involved a warehouse in
Los Angeles where authorities were able to seize over 21 tons of cocaine worth $7
billion. The place is believed to have been a gateway for big drug smuggling businesses
that involved cocaine made from Colombia.
