GIRL SCOUT DAY AT THE CAPITOL
It’s Your Story- Tell It!
For the past nine years, the Girl Scouts of Central Illinois have been organizing Girl Scout Day at the
Capitol. This event draws girls from all over the state and allows them to learn more about their
government while giving them an opportunity to bond with other girl scouts. This year will mark the
tenth anniversary of our event and we are expecting around 2,000 girls to be present.
Girl Scout Day at the Capitol will take place on May 6, 2016 in downtown Springfield. We will kick off the
day at the Prairie Capitol Convention Center where girls can check in from 9:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. At 9:30
a.m. the girls will march to the capitol steps where they will be able to explore the capitol and meet with
legislators.
From 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. the girls will be able to participate in the Girl Expo back at the Prairie
Capitol Convention Center. The Girl Expo is an opportunity for girls to learn about businesses and
agencies in Illinois that help benefit their community. This year’s theme is “It’s Your Story- Tell It!” and
we are looking for organizations and agencies to set up booths that will highlight strong female role
models and women in positions of power.
Booth space is free and set up will occur between 10:15 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. Each business will be
provided with one 10X10 table along with two chairs and a pipe and drape. We want to ensure that each
girl is given the opportunity to have an educational and memorable experience and are counting on the
support of a variety of organizations to make this possible. If you would like to take part in this event
please contact our program specialist, Lisa Wall, at lwall@girlscouts-gsci.org or at (217)241-3737.
