Canada uses a skilled immigration selection procedure to choose applicants who can contribute to the economy by working. The procedure uses an electronic point system and places applicants in an Express Entry pool based on human capital factors. Applicants in the pool may receive an invitation to apply for permanent residency through periodic draws. Over 6,500 applicants have received invitations in the first three months of 2015. The selection process aims to attract 181,000 new immigrants in 2015 through a multi-step online process.
2. Canada has started selecting applicants who wish
to live and work on its soils through skilled
immigration selection procedure. Only potential
applicants, with the capability to join Canadian
work force and ability to contribute towards the
country’s economy, will be given preference. From
January 1, 2015 Canada skilled immigration
selection procedure has already taken place. It has
already completed more than three months and
roughly 6,595 applicants have received an
‘Invitation to Apply’.
3. It is basically an electronic point based procedure
and confers the Permanent Resident (PR) status to
potential applicants. It is developed on a similar
procedure first developed by New Zealand and
later adopted by its neighboring country,
Australia.
4. Canada skilled immigration selection procedure
works in two major steps. To begin with, you have
to create an online profile and submit an
‘Expression of Interest’, as to why you wish to live
and work in Canada. Once an applicant
successfully meets the criteria of any of the
Economic Programmes, he may be placed in the
Express Entry pool. Depending on your human
capital, you will be granted points and the
applicants with high points are likely to be issued
an ‘Invitation to Apply’.
5. Candidates without a job offer or provincial, or
territorial nomination, may register themselves
with the Canada’s Job Bank. If you are lucky
enough, your name may pop up under any of the
monthly draws. So far, in three and a half months,
seven draws have successfully taken place, and
the latest draw has issued 925 invitations to the
applicants from within the Express Entry Pool.
6. As per the records, the seventh draw took place on
April 10, 2015, and soon after followed the news that
some of the applicants of the first few draws have
already acquired much desired and awaited
Permanent Residence status, via Express Entry
Immigration Selection Procedure.
The positive aspect of the latest draw is that the
Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) has issued
an ‘Invitation to Apply’ to a large number of
applicants without a job offer or a provincial or
territorial nomination.
7. Points to remember for prospective
immigrants
• Once you have received an ‘Invitation to Apply, denial under
any circumstances will lead to a ban of 12 months from
entering the Express Entry Pool.
• Those applicants who have been issued an ‘Invitation to
Apply’ will not get more than 60 days to claim the status of
Permanent Resident.
• If a candidate receives an ‘Invitation to Apply’, but due to
some reason, fails to process further, he will not get a second
chance under the same Invitation to apply.
• Misrepresentation in any form may lead to a severe penalty of
2 to 5 years.
8. The Citizenship and Immigration Canada has
planned to attract as many as 181,000 new
entrants in 2015. The road ahead is long and
smooth for the potential applicants.
