Dear Mr. Sauers:
Congratulations on being named a recipient of the 2014 Award for Excellence in
Teclirology Transfer by the Federal Laboratory Consortium (FLC). This award
recognizes laboratory ernployees and private collaborators who accomplished outstanding
*orÈin transferring iechnology developed in the Federal Laboratory to the commercial
marketplace. This year, ,.u.nt."n recipient-teams were recognized among the works of
more than 250 Federal Laboratories, research centers, and facilities represented by the
congressionally-chartered FLC, indicating a selective process and a contribution of the
highest caliber.
I would like to recognizeyour efforts at Argonne National Laboratory (ANL) toward the
development of the SpEC module, a technology that enables direct current (DC) fast
charging communicatìon between an electric vehicle and a DC charger by implementing
the Jociety of Automotive Engineer's charging standards and specifications. DC fast-
charging énables the charging of an electric vehicle in less than 15 minutes, a huge
advance over the 6 to 8 hours needed for alternating current.
Transferring the SpEC module technology to BTCPower through a limited field-of-use
license agreèment for 25- and 5OkW electric vehicles chargers will allow ANL's
technology to be incorporated in a charger that will be a I00Yo American-made product.
your contributions are commendable and reflect well upon you, your colleagues, ANL
and the U.S. Department of EnergY.
Sincerely,
Ernest J. Moniz
