explore its beauty. Via this project, we got the opportunity to learn a little bit
more about this beautiful country that we live in. For this, we would like to

3. Introduction
๏ด Like the land, the people of Dadra & Nagar Haveli are simple and nice.
Hospitable and kind, they follow age-old traditions and are happy for visitors
to explore their rich and varied art, music, folklore and dances. Around 62%
are tribals.
๏ด Dadar and Nagar Haveli is a union territory between Gujarat and
Maharashtra
๏ด Dadar and Nagar Haveli was ruled by Portuguese from 1783 to mid 20th
century and later it was again captured by pro- Indian forces
๏ด This project is about the Dadra and Nagar haveli of today.
Agriculture is the main
occupation, but as holdings
are small, many of them
work as farm labourers or
seek employment in other
areas. They enjoy fishing
and hunting, are firm
believers in their deities and
perform rituals regularly.

5. Major tribal communities in India
๏ด Dhodia :
The Dhodia of Dadra and Nagar Haveli belongs to a tribal group and have their
own sets of customs, songs and dances. The people belonging to this ethnic
group are related to the Bhils and speak Dhodia.
๏ด Dubla :
The Dublas are settled mainly in the northern part of dadra and Nagar Haveli
and speak the language of the same name Dublas which is a Bhil language
originating from the Indo Aryan linguistic group.

handicraft tradition.

๏ด Leather Crafts :
The union territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli in
India is very popular for the leather crafts made by
the local people. The tribal people in the region of
Dadra and Nagar Haveli put in all their artistry and
creativity for making the leather crafts.
๏ด Basketry :
Basketry of Dadra and Nagar Haveli is a very popular
form of the local handicraft in the country of India.
The rural people prepare some wonderful works of
art made of bamboo canes which is an integral part of
the life.
8. Famous Food
๏ด Dadra and Nagar Haveli is known for its exotic
cuisine of the tribes here. The cuisine here is partly
Goan and partly Gujrati influenced. In addition to
being delicious , these simple but unique dishes are
also nutritious and we canโt stop asking for more. For
itโs fine merger of great attractions both in terms of
delectable food and local places , this union territory
of India is unquestionably a dream destination for
travelers.
๏ด Ubadiyu, ais a must-try dish. It is only one of the
specialties in Silvassa as well as other parts of the
Union Territory, and is eaten usually in the winter.
Have it with turmeric-flavoured buttermilk, thatโs
how the local people of Dadra and Nagar Haveli enjoy
it. Khaman, steamed chickpea cake, and gamthi
chicken are other must-eats.

10. History of dadra and nagar haveli
๏ด History of Dadra and Nagar haveli is divided into 4 periods:
i. Pre Portuguese era
ii. Portuguese era
iii. End of Portuguese rule
iv. Free Dadra and Nagar haveli
๏ด The Portuguese were granted the area of Nagar Haveli on 10 June 1783 on the basis of
the Friendship Treaty executed on 17 December 1779 as compensation towards
damage to the Portuguese frigate Santana by Maratha navy in 1772.
๏ด In 1881, Portuguese ultimately became the effective rulers of Dadra and Nagar Haveli
after Marathas were defeated by Britishers in 3rd Anglo Indian war.
๏ด Dadra and Nagar haveli was liberated on 2nd august of 1954. but still it was recognized
as Portuguese possession by many international organizations like the international
court of justice.
๏ด On 31 December 1974 a treaty was signed between India and Portugal on recognition
of India's sovereignty over Goa, Daman, Diu, Dadra and Nagar Haveli. In 2020 it was
finally merged with neighboring union territory Daman and Diu.
